Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 Air rage: Is reclining your seat a right? What's your take on reclining seats?
Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 OMG! Speaking from a tall persons perspective I wish they would get rid of this feature in coach seating. I can't tell you how many times I've been sitting there having a wonderful flight when all of a sudden I'm in pain and can hardly move my legs. On some planes it's just that bad and unbearable. I remember my legs literally being numb on one trip. I had to keep getting up to get some form of relief. I've tried everything from asking the person nicely to please let the seat back up to actually hitting the seat with my knees to let the person know my displeasure with their choice. Some passengers are very understanding while others are just plain assholes. And it's not like your seat goes back all that far. But just enough to annoy the person behind you. I decided after that leg numbing trip that I'm not going to put up with it anymore. Let's face it, it's not really the passengers fault, it's the airline. They either need to make enough REAL room for people to recline their seats or completely remove this feature. I bet you the first time someone successfully sues one of these airlines then they'll make changes. However, I must say I've never had this problem on Southwest airline. Starfish 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 Sharon, as another tall person, you expressed my feelings beautifully - and that is the reason I try to fly Southwest. They seem to be the only airline that hasn't reduced leg room in coach. Last week I had to fly Delta and my knees were right up against the seat in front of me the entire time. I never recline my seat in coach, even on cross-country flights, unless the seat behind me is empty.
Magnolia 171 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 ^ Oh man, I bet it is terrible for tall people like you girls. I agree that it is the fault of the airlines. They need to make room for ALL of their passengers to be comfortable. Come one, we pay good money for those flights and to be all scrunched up with legs going numb is just ridiculous. AmyLou 5 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 I don't recline unless there's an empty seat or a tiny kid behind me, but I'm amazed that most people don't even think twice before smashing their seat down on me. When that's the case I make sure and put my tray up and down as many times as possible
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 So far I haven't had a hard time with reclining seats, although I am tall. I do request an aisle seat though. One, to stretch my legs so my knees and hips don't ache so bad, and I need to use the lavatory more often than most people, and I hate to crawl over them all the time to just get to the aisle. It is a shame that they feel compelled to jam more and more people into coach. I hate flying, but I have no choice this year.
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 It's not a right if there is an adult sitting behind you. Everyone is scrunched in together, so we need to be considerate of each other.
agirl 0 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 This is one of the things that piss me off. I have no leg room to start with and then someone reclines their seat. They get no rest because I will kick it and put my tray up and down.
Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 I'm by no means a frequent flyer. I am scared of flying. But..I have to say, I've been very lucky on the flights I have been on, that this has never happened to me. I'm short, but still...just because you bought that ticket for that seat, that doesn't mean you have the right to be an inconsiderate asshole. How hard is it to compromise? Plus, if you need to "lay" down to sleep on a flight, why not fly 1st class?
Amber 70 Report post Posted December 10, 2010 It pisses me off too. They need to take the ability away since most people nowadays have no consideration for others. When someone does it to me, I make sure kick the seat regularly with my knees everytime I shift in the seat (which I do more often when the idiot reclines in my lap). See if you can nap now.... AngelDream 16 Report post Posted December 11, 2010 I do feel sorry for tall people that have some asshole to be that inconsiderate by reclining the seat. I'm kinda short and haven't had that problem on my flights. I agree, they should fly 1st class if they wanna recline. Why do they wanna recline anyway? I've always been waayyyyy too nervous to recline on any of my flights!!!
