Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 If you were to take over a holiday, which holiday would you choose and why?
SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 I would take over Christmas, and turn back the clock to when the celebration was simpler and less marketing and shopping oriented.

DCAHNM 0 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 I would take over Thanksgiving. Let's go back to a day that's not focused on Christmas sales(because that's reserved for the Friday after.). It used to be, stores wouldn't be open at all on that Thursday. Let's go back to a simply a day of giving thanks and hanging out with family and friends. Not to mention eating way too much turkey and all of the fixins!!

Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 Halloween! I want all the little kids to be able to go out and Trick or Treat and not be scared of any harm or foul coming to them. I want parents not to have to take their children's candy to a local hospital to have the candy x-rayed. I want all the old time parties to go on, bobbing for apples, costume contests, etc... I like when the streets were flooded with children walking around being cute or scary with their pillow cases and treat bags. Just one night a year, why can't we provide this for our children today? SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 ^ Great point Linda. We didn't trick-or-treat with our parents when we were kids in Minneapolis. It was safe for us to wander around the neighborhood in the dark, collecting treats. There was always a house or two we all avoided, because we thought there were bad people living there. I don't know if they really were - lol.
Refugee 7 Report post Posted December 8, 2010 ^ I hear you, Susan! We never had to have our parents with us, only when I was really little. We had the same two houses to avoid, too, LOL! Not sure why, we just did. I also agree with your assessment of Christmas and Emily's on Thanksgiving. Yes, there was a time when I really enjoyed the holidays, but still not the way other people do, but I think greedy consumerism made me bitter.
