Question of the Day - 12/03/10

Recommended Posts

^ Me too, Emily. At work we're not supposed to call the break we have coming up "Chirstmas Vacation" but "Winter Break" instead. What bullshit. I will never say Winter Break. We don't have a vacation because it's winter, we have a vacation because it's Christmas. Whether you celebrate it or not, it still exists.

I think I will send out Christmas cards this year. I usually do that every few years or so.

I really want to but don't know if I will get them out in time..

It IS and will always be Christmas to me.

I will not be offended if anyone wants to call it any different. They have probably another religion than I and I don't have a problem with that.

Just don't try to change anything in the Calendar...

No and No. I'm not really a Christmas person - its kind of too much and overwhelming. I like to keep things simple, but I never can around Christmas. As far as calling it "Christmas" or "holiday" - I don't really give a care. I think in America Christmas has become its own thing, it really doesn't have much to do with religion. Its kind of impossible not to get caught up in it, no matter what your religious beliefs are.

I haven't sent out cards the last couple of years. Maybe next year... I used to do a Holiday painting and print cards.

I have no problem with Christmas. In fact the phrase, "Merry Christmas" to me, is as secular as Santa Claus and Christmas trees. To me, "Happy Holidays" encompasses all the celebrations this time of year. I wish we'd all just chill out and let each other celebrate how ever we want.

I go in spurts with sending them out. Some years I do and some years I don't.

I'm not offended at whatever you call it, but to me, it's Christmas and that should be ok too. I'm sick and tired of always having to be politically correct.

I will send out some cards. I usually do. I do not get "offended", (as stated before, we have more serious matters to deal with daily), but I do think it is sad that a religious celebration has been turned into a "holiday season". We have totally lost the meaning of Christmas, which was once a celebration of Christ's birth observed by Christians, which happened to involve the majority of the people in America when I was a child. With the influx of immigrants and duty to policitcal correctness in the last 30 years (where you cannot "offend" anyone for any reason), this sacred day has been pushed into oblivion and replaced with greedy folks trampling each other to get doorbuster electronics deals. No wonder the Arabs think we are infidels...all they see of America is what they see on TV......that we celebrate our traditional Christian faith with how many possessions we can grab.

We usually send out a picture card with Hubby, Dad and I, sort of to prove to everyone that Dad's still alive and kicking. I don't know what's happening with that this year, since my brother usually takes the pic, and I don't know when he's gonna be dropping by. He usually takes the pic when we get together for Thanksgiving, but Dad was in the hospital then, so it didn't happen. If I get ambitious enough, I'll call him about it.

And no, I don't get offended.

I won't be sending out any cards this year. I stopped doing that a few years ago.

I'm not offended at all at Happy Holiday, Merry Christmas or whatever. To each their own.

Just not into the organized religions who make such a big deal.

Nope, I don't send out Christmas cards anymore. I am not offended by someone using the word holiday instead of Christmas, but I AM offended if it's mandated by a corporation. Then it just makes me want to say Happy Christmakwanzakah and Solistice and Bodhi Day and.... ;)

I used to send out tons of Christmas cards but the past 2 years we, ourselves received very few, in fact last year I think we got about 3 and I'd sent my usual load out. Frankly, it pissed me off. I was like, well shit, if you can't even bloody remember us ONCE a year even on Christmas it's a poor show. So this year, to hell with everyone, no Christmas card sending from us this year.

And I'm with Patty, we've all become way to careful what we say with all this politically correctness - Patty, it's WAY worse here then it is in the US. We can barely make any jokes now without fear of offending anyone, it's brutal. It's CHRISTMAS people. Get over it!

We take a family Christmas photo and email it out, or FB it out now I guess! I stopped sending out cards about 5 years ago, it just got to be we did more emailing and sending cards got to be a hassle. Christmas, holiday...it's all ok with me. Everyone is different and however they wish to celebrate is how it goes. I work in a school, and they are over cautious about the wording of those things. I just try to keep it real and spread some love.
