Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 ^ I agree Marcia. Both should be an option. While there's so many wonderful things that technology has done for us, it's almost like a two-headed monster at times. People do seem more stressed out at times. I think sometimes all this "being connected" can be a bit too much. Some days you just don't want to be bothered.
weird monkey 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 Due to an unfortunate mishap, I lost nearly all the data on a 1 terabyte drive, including all of the music and the master files for all the Buried Treasure covers I did. The music can be recovered (albeit w/ generic file names - which ain't pretty when you consider that it's 750 GB of music files), but the image files are probably not recoverable - they'd lost too much meta data and they were somewhat fragmented. That was stressful. The person responsible is trying to get it back. I am not holding my breath. FWIW, if Windows 7 doesn't recognize a drive when it is plugged in, it will automatically reformat the directory. It still won't be able to read it, but it destroys the information for every other OS too. This is bad. I hate Microsoft with every fiber of my being. weird monkey 0 Report post Posted November 24, 2010 ^ No backups? Yikes. That was the backup, sort of. The iMac went terminal in August, and I was trying to get all the files on the various drives I have in some kind of order - as time allows - so I was in the middle of that process. I have the iMac stuff backed up on 2 other drives, I just hope the original Buried Treasure files are on at least one of those. It just seems like you need a back up for your back up these days.
