Question of the Day - 11/23/10

Recommended Posts

A few years back we were driving back from Milwaukee to California over a period of days. One of the days we detoured for about 2 hours because we saw these signs advertising Wall Drug Store in South Dakota. They said it was the worlds largest drug store and America's greatest roadside attraction. I can't remember exactly how many square feet but that place is HUGE! I suppose the detour was worth it. I mean at least I can say I've been to Walls Drug Store.

A few years back we were traveling to Nashville to LRED's house to party the night before the concert. I had a map and was trying to tell what directions and exits to take, but we went to far and ended up on a dead end road (can't tell a man directions...LOL!). Was suppose to be at LRED's at midnight, ended up there at 3AM. It was a riot, but the party was still going strong at 3 in the morning, so I wasn't late.....

I am thinking back now to when I used to drive to my grandmother's house in Kutztown, PA. Coming back home, I had my Irish Setter, Kelly, with me....we had stayed the weekend and my sister was still there. I must have missed a turn because all of a sudden I was seeing big bulletin boards for Camel Back and other ski spots! Ahhhhh!! And there was no place to turn off!! I kept driving, hoping there would be a turn off. Went through a huge tunnel and finally saw a Rest Stop area sign. Good thing, I needed gas!! Asked the man there and he told me how to get back....that was a long time coming home.....

The only one I can remember right now is when my son, daughter-in-law and I were going back to Grandpa's house after going out for dinner. My son was driving, and I wasn't paying attention. We missed the turn, and didn't realize it until we were almost to the village of Turtle Lake. We just kept going, and took a different way home. We probably went about 14 miles out of our way.

Trying to get back to Philadelphia from The Keswick Theater with Gina and gosh, who else was with us Gina?

I felt better after I talked to my brother the next day and he groaned, saying how that is the worst area to get to or from. He drives for a living and is very good at directions, etc.. Says he HATES going anywhere near that vicinity! LOL!

Years ago I had food poisioning and was sick as a dog. We were driving back from LA and they closed Interstate 5, due to a fire. We ended up way out in the boonies somewhere. It took us hours out of our way.

OMG! Patty, that was too funny. We were laughing our heads off in our car. We ended up going over that damn bridge twice. It did get a little scary when we pulled over at that gas station (I think?). The innercity of Philly was a little intimidating for some folks at night, lol. Then when we finally made it to the hotel and you guys didn't show up for a while we were a bit concerned. I had Ellyn, Tee and Marion in the car with me. So you must have had Amylou and Gina.

When I was younger, I drove to Las Vegas to see my "boyfriend". I was fine driving there, stayed a few days and had too much fun, then he wanted to come back to CA with me, so I said, why not? But, we missed a turn or something coming back and ended up in Bakersfield! How we did that, I have NO clue, lol. Spent the night in the car, then drove the 166 home. Ugh, I hate that route.

Once when I was a kid I went on a daytrip from Southeast NJ (Jersey shore!) out west to Lancaster, PA to the Amish country. It was me & my sister, my parents in our car, and my cousins following us in another car. On the way back home, I was being annoying and reading all the signs I saw along the highway out loud (because I was bored). I kept seeing signs that advertised fresh live crabs for sale. My mom thought I was making it up. But then I read out loud a sign that said "Welcome to Delaware" Obviously we were lost!!!

Several years ago driving back from Six Flags amusement park somehow I missed getting on the interstate to go home. I ended up up driving behind an old apartment building had no idea where I was, the kids and myself were tired and we were 2 hours from home. I think I called my husband for directions.

I am now very thankful for my GPS.

I can only think of the time I was with a coworker somewhere in Oklahoma, on a trip that had a lot of driving. We talked on the phone all the time for work, but had never met, so we had a lot to talk about on that trip. I go so distracted I missed a turn and by the time I realized it, it was too far to turn around, so I kept going until we got to a road where we could cut over to the right road. I'm thinking we went about 30 miles out of our way on a 200 mile or so leg.

I also missed the turn in OKC to go to the airport and had to double back. That was the worst trip for getting lost I ever made!

Picked up my son's girlfriend at LAX some years back. On our way home I chatted up a storm and ended up on 170 instead of following 101 and didn't notice until we were way up on I5... the detour was an hour but it was hard to hide the fact from the two tired lovebirds.

Also on my way home from Mozambique the other week the 405 was closed shortly before the 101 exit and that ws another little more than an hour detour as well...
