AngelDream 16 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 (edited) Yes, I believe they should have to...if we have to wear seat belts, they should have to wear helmets, but it's up to them, we should have a choice too... just that the law won't fine them, but they will us. About a year ago, the news here said that a guy was at a stop light, wasn't wearing a helmet, and for some reason the bike fell on it's side and his head hit the curb, later he died with head injuries...said he wasn't going but 2 mph. SingsInFrench 262 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 Yes. We are required to wear seatbelts, so motorcyclists should be required to wear helmets.

Starfish 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 Yes. That reminds me of something I noticed in California last week - a LOT of motorcyclists cutting through traffic, sliding between cars, risking their lives (and everyone else's!) rather than following basic rules of the road. It was absolute insanity.
Refugee 7 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 I use to ride with some guys that rode Harley's. So, my answer is no, they shouldn't HAVE to wear helmets. Believe me, they all know the risks.

nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 i said no, i had 2 harley's and along with other subjects, i believe whatever you do, you know the risks. i for one, don't want anyone telling me or making laws for me that never rode anything but a schwinn 3 wheeler bike at 2 years old. same with the question a few days ago about smoking! 99% of the ppl that say they don't smoke DO. there's just no writing or brand names on their smokes!!!! Echosoftom 3 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 Yes. And here's why...If they don't have medical insurance, and statistics show there's a high percentage that don't, then the cost of their medical care is passed onto you as a taxpayer. The cost for one of these accidents can be catastrophic. Many times when they survive, they can be hospitalized for months and require years of follow-up care all at your expense. nurktwin 2,143 Report post Posted November 15, 2010 i understand what you are saying sharon, and that's a problem. but having hospitalization doesn't really tie into being forced into wearing a helmet, that's a whole other problem that will probably never get fixed.
