    About Poland...

^^^^I saw an wonderful documentary about the history of Warner Brothers on cable TV (they show it on TCM from time to time). The 4 founding brothers, Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack, were born Hirsz, Aaron, Szmul and Itzhak Wonskolaser. They immigrated to America from Poland with their parents, and the rest was movie history.
  2. Grateful for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day for many reasons, the least of which, I got to sleep in today. Didn't get out of bed until nearly noon, missing the inauguration.
  3. It's 9 degrees right now. We had a light dusting of snow overnight, but it's almost gone...the temperature of the ground is higher than that. It's been over a year now since we had an inch of snow in Chicago, breaking the record every day.
  4. I used to dream of getting a job a job building guitars. Now, I wouldn't attempt it.

    About Poland...

Like Sheila said, you cannot grow up in Chicago without knowing about Kazimierez Pulaski (Sheila....do you still live in the Chicago area??). My family originally came from Russia, and many of my relatives are Polish. I don't know much about Polish history, but I did learn a lot about people from Poland or of Polish descent. I know about Nicolaus Copernicus and Madame Curie, and know that Albert Sabin, who developed the polio vaccine, was Polish. And Chopin. And Arthur Rubenstein. And the amazing Joseph Conrad and the equally amazing Jerzy Kosinski and Issac Bashevis Singer. Then there's Roman Polanski, Gene Krupa, Balthus, Adrien Brody, Richie Sambora, and Karen O. And what would this world have been without the Warner Brothers?????
  6. I pick chocolate ice cream!!!
  7. OMG....slept until 10:28 this morning. I must have been exhausted.
  8. Funny you should ask this question today....I found out this morning that an old friend who I haven't seen since high school is moving next week and will live about 10 or 15 minutes from me. I cannot wait to see her again and catch up. Facebook just doesn't do the trick. There's something about high school friends that's so special.
  9. Actually, my favorite place to eat is at home. I don't eat at any fast food chains unless I'm out west and there's an In-n-Out around (in which case I'll go there three or four times per trip). Otherwise, I like a nice, moderately priced restaurant with simple food. High Class is too classy for me.
  10. Pour whisky into glass. Raise glass to lips. Smile.
  11. Woke up this mornin' Raccoons scratchin' at my brain. Didn't want to go to the allergist 'Cos them shots cause such pain.
  12. Jim Morrison sang: "Well, I woke up this morning, I got myself a beer." Robert Johnson sang: "Woke up this morning, feel 'round for my shoes..." In your best bluesy voice, what did you do when you woke up this morning?
  13. No...not a swimming pool. I've tried to have a nice garden in my backyard for many years, but I must have a brown thumb....nothing grows. I think I'll blame the soil.
  14. What kind of calendar did you buy for 2013?? Here's ours:
  15. Oh, the joys of having British friends who remember my birthday.... Today's Disc: 10cc - Tenology
  16. ^^Sheila -- no firm date yet, but it's coming in February. The name of the band is Athanor and the album is called "Flashback" (even in my 60s, I can't resist drug references). Our label is Guerssen Records. We have the cover art and an amazing four-page insert, but I can't share it with anyone until the album's released. That all goes to the printer tomorrow. But do a little Googling with the band name, and you'll find all sorts of stuff about us. Of note are a couple of pieces at somewherethereismusic.com, which also has three of our songs on it.
  17. ^Well said!! So glad our album is being released on vinyl. It's the way it's meant to be heard!! My favorite song?? So many, but I'm going to pick "American Girl." I love listening to that song, and I LOVE playing that song live, Rickenbacker in hand.
  18. I'm with Brandon and the others.....we just let it all go to a controlled mess until we have company. Then I really go into action. The BIG clean comes every year before our friends from England come to stay for about 10 days. They're coming back in late April, so I'll start a real clean a week or two before....walls, windows, the whole deal.
  19. One of my favorite artists.... Disc of the Day Alejandro Escovedo - Big Station
  20. Good choice! Don't hear much from those guys anymore. Wonder why they never made it big.
  21. ^I've seen Season 3 as well, and I have to admit that I can't wait to see what happens next. It's a sappy soap opera, but I'm totally hooked!! Our British friends are very surprised that we like it....not as big there, apparently, because "we've seen it all before." Showing my age again, but I give my vote to "Twin Peaks." I sorta kinda thought I understood what was going on, but by the end I was totally confused and not sure what I was watching.
