    TP in new Elvis Doc

According to Rolling Stone, one of TP's final interviews appears in the forthcoming Elvis doc: The new two-part HBO documentary Elvis Presley: The Searcher (which premieres April 14th) aims to finally restore the King to his proper place in the rock pantheon as a creative pioneer on par with Chuck Berry, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Directed by Thom Zimny and produced by Jon Landau and Priscilla Presley, it tells Elvis' life story through his music, utilizing a treasure trove of unseen video, photographs and new interviews with his friends, collaborators and fans, including Bruce Springsteen and, in one of his final interviews, Tom Petty. "I wanted to attack and shatter the shorthand version of Elvis Presley's life story – that after the Army there was just bad films, bad recordings, bad tours and then his life was over," says Zimny. "This was a man driven by music, even at his darkest times."
  2. Anyone watched "The Zen of Garry Shandling" on HBO? TP and Garry were good friends, and he appears quite a few times in this wonderful two-part documentary.

Prayers for Tom Petty - 1950-2017

I feel absolutely numb with grief today. It's been a crap year, and the events of the past few weeks/days have left me feeling lower than usual. But as I listen to his music this morning, it helps me to remember how much life Tom put into his music. And that will live on forever.

    Breakfast with the Beatles

I remember that day well also, Nurk! I was a senior in high school and just finished finals. I literally ran to the local record store. They had a list of who had bought the album that day. I was #7. Two of my classmates who had already bought it were Jack Burchall of the Del-Vetts, and Terry Chess, son of Chess Records' Phil Chess. It was literally the first stereo album I'd ever bought....my older brother had a stereo which I was forbidden to touch, but he was still at college, so..... I had a portable reel-to-reel tape recorder and taped the album and played it in my car non-stop. I remember going to Terry's house and listening to it on a REAL stereo system. Seems like you could could hear the album coming out the windows of every house that summer. Even as I listen now in to the Deluxe Edition in my car with the windows open, I wonder who is doing the same thing. Oh....one more thing....try listening to the new stereo mix at home with headphones on....something I never do anymore. It will blow your mind.
  7. When we got our last car, it came with 3 free months of Sirius XM. We never subscribed. But in honor of the Beatles Station, they've turned on everyone's radios and I'm getting all Sirius XM channels for free through May 30th!!

    Question of the day 2/22/17

I have three acoustics. My favorite is the Takemine EF381C 12-String: But if I could have any acoustic, I'd want this Rickenbacker that Ricky Nelson had:

    Question of the day 2/15/17

Taking any band that was around in the sixties out of the equation, I'd choose Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band.
