New Tom Petty Single - Somewhere Under Heaven

To me, this track sounds dated. The release said it was recorded for Wildflowers, but it sounds more like an "Into The Great Wide Open" outtake. The beauty of Wildflowers is the sparse production that Rubin brought to the table, and that (with the exception of Highway Companion) the band has basically stuck to since then. You can play Wildflowers and it sounds like it could've been released this year. The Jeff Lynne albums sound like the eighties/early 90's.
  2. so I heard what I thought was won't back down playing in the car next to me this morning...doors were closed, all I could really hear was the bassline. When I got out of my car I realized it was this Sam Smith song...

    Compensation Of Heartbreakers

No clue what they make, but I agree about the "no soul" comment. The Full Moon Fever and Into the Great Wide Open albums are SOOO much better with the heartbreakers live than in the overproduced Jeff Lynne album versions.

    San Diego Tonight!

Tom does use a teleprompter the last few years...as do lots of people (I believe Neil Young also had one on his last tour, mounted to his mic stand).

Jimmy Fallon doing Tom Petty with Stevie Nicks

I saw several comments on facebook of people who actually thought they were both the real deal...Obviously they haven't seen Mr. Petty since the early '80s...or at all...

    Songwriting Challenge to Tom Petty

I don't think Tom's talking about Vince Gill or Allison Krause. Vince Gill agrees wholeheartedly with Tom Petty. Tom's probably talking about the Luke Bryan's and Jason Aldeans of the world... http://theboot.com/vince-gill-new-music/
