Damn, this is pretty exciting! And it isn't just in the USA, but Canada, Japan and much of Europe, too. If you are interested in celebrating independent record stores, check out these links: Home: http://www.recordstoreday.com/Home About Record Store Day: http://www.recordstoreday.com/CustomPage/614 Participating Stores (USA): http://www.recordstoreday.com/Venues Participating Stores (International): http://www.recordstoreday.com/CustomPage/575 As if one needed an excuse to go to Amoeba.

What Music Are You Listening To Right Now?
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Creative Corner
I've been listening to BT Ep 18 all day long. This one's a challenge but I think I got something... Can't wait to get home - then the fun begins! -
good especially compared to the previous week

August 2007. I flew back to CA from my parent's 50th in Nebraska.

But Lizzie, if their fans knew they were greedy bastards, it might make the look bad! I hope this practice of sleazebag economics becomes a thing of the past and people realize that transparency is the best policy when dealing with consumers. Eventually you're going to get caught with your hand in the cookie jar and brand loyalty will evaporate pretty quickly.

The business of art is complicated, that's for sure. I've had work in galleries, done art shows/fairs, etc, and had good experiences, discouraging ones etc. So much of success in art is being in the right place at the right time, it's unpredictable, and if one chases trends, one is going to end up frustrated. One of the reasons I didn't pursue commercial art after college (young and stupid stupid stupid in retrospect), was the competitive backbiting, trying to read clients' minds, and spending 99% of one's time doing it to make a living instead of doing what you love and/or what inspires you. The fortune in my fortune cookie Wednesday night said, "Hold on Tight to Your Dreams". I'm taking that as a message from God thankyouverymuch.

Hasn't been a structure so impressive since they built our phallic capitol building, in 1932. It's quite an erection. Oh I'll save you all the trouble: http://www.archives.gov/nhprc/annotation/september-98/images/nebraska-capitol.jpg It has a nickname, too. Rhymes with Busker Bard-on. Okay, I'll stop now before Linda has to bring the hammer down on me. :021:

Yes! Both shows are relatively close, besides, I'll get to meet Brandon! In a fake cowboy bar and a honest to goodness biker bar. We're not in Nebraska anymore!
-
So I guess we're all full of it. Except for maybe LRED
-
Well, that sounds like a definite positive maybe! :023: Good enough for me.

No kidding, The Wrath of the Nicest Guy in the band. Sheeesh.

I can't say I absolutely hate it either, but you are so right about it never shutting up, and most of the time it's shouting in my house. [shudders] My first husband was European, and he noticed that Americans have a habit of turning the tv on, and leaving it on even if they aren't watching it, as though they need the constant background noise. It's true in my house. I even knew someone once who couldn't sleep at night if it wasn't on.

http://soaps.about.com/od/soaps101/a/whatsasoap.htm Plenty of soap as far as I'm concerned (and 'm not talking about the ads), and someone always sings like a canary.

Just keep mine warm in the oven. I'll be right over.

I need to go to nurktwin's for dinner today.

Ha-ha (I probably shouldn't laugh), my husband gave a loud whooping whoohoo during the show, only to discover that the guy standing right in front of him was Scott, who responded very appropriately by turning around and giving him the stink eye for shouting in his ear. :108: :087:

My tax preparer lives in Pasadena, but she'll be in Joshua Tree this weekend, so I want to get it all to her in person instead of sending it.

New Dylan album this spring? UPDATE
weird monkey replied to weird monkey's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
MOJO Rulez: http://www.mojo4music.com/blog/2009/03/new_dylan_album_our_first_list.html Makes Rolling Stone look like the imposter it has become. This is how to write a record 'preview' hippies - give us something sweet salty hot and sour to snack on whilst we wait. I've got a baaaad feeling about #6 though. Hell, I'm excited. -
I feel younger most of the time, and it surprises me when I am reminded of my chronological age, or look in the mirror. I'm grateful that I'm blessed with good genes and have taken care pretty good care of myself for most of my life.
