YOUR choice for best drummers!
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
http://www.mudcrutch.com/forum/showpost.php?p=152258&postcount=15 (mebbe style points don't count though) Edited to add: Max Roach -
I don't have 15 minutes to spare for the interview just now, but I understand BBT's desire to keep the interview on topic. What I get from reading the snippet posted above though, is a passive aggressive stance, which only eggs the interviewer on. What's wrong with just saying, "That isn't what I'm here to talk about. Next question."

Did you visit Paul McCartney's web site shortly before April 5th?
weird monkey replied to angelic_22's topic in Depot Street
Thanks for the head's up, Relic. It's a shame that it got onto a site that would normally considered 'safe'. Should virus software have caught this? I understand that Windows can be set not to install things automatically without asking. Does this work with malware too? -
Music. I'm really bad at parsing lyrics. On the other hand, some people are able to craft a song whose lyrics are not always immediately clear or sensical, yet still convey a sense of what they are singing about.

Ticketmaster had a lot of help to get where they are. That's all I'm sayin'

YOUR choice for best drummers!
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
I don't know enough about drumming to know if a drummer is outstanding or not, so I can only give style points, but Levon Helm gets a vote from me. "The Weight": http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2-xQoNDFwlE&feature=related Edit: "The Weight" - 38 years on... And Jack White is drumming for his new band, I bet that's stylin'! -
The Boosh is loose and it's coming at you like a shark with knees!

The famous rock club is gone, but you can still visit. Virtually, at least: http://www.bravadousa.com/cbgb/pano/pano.html I haven't had so much fun snooping around a virtual space since getting lost for several days in Weird Steve's House. http://www.vrseattle.com/pages/browse.php?cat_id=845

New Tom Petty Track! Kinda!
weird monkey replied to Matt of Constant Sorrow's topic in Great Wide Open
That's Genius, Matt. :003: -
I've got 3 small pots of basil to plant as soon as the weather settles. I've taken to adding fresh basil not only to Italian dishes, but salads and sandwiches - I swear I think it has addictive properties. Trying to plant any type of garden is too frustrating out here, but we have some perenials, and my iris will be blooming soon. Oh wait. I have a cactus garden, does that count?

You got a reply? I must have messed up. I put Rock the Dogs under Description, must've been the wrong spot. -

Rock The Dogs Donation Drive - Mike Campbell

Thanks for letting us know, Linda. Tazzy's a great charity. I hope they make lots of biscuits! -
I'm sure as soon as the Ticketmaster CEO was off the phone with the press lauding Sen Schumer's legislation, he was on the phone to his lobbyists with orders to have it castrated. It was very cool of Charlie Pride for refunding a woman's tickets after she paid over $1000 at a scalping site http://www.cbc.ca/arts/story/2009/04/02/edm-pride-tickets.html

Lucinda Williams firms up summer plans
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
I know she is trying to make up for one thing by sweetening another, it's a nice gesture. I also don't want to grudge someone whatever they need to do to make a good living, but there must be a way around obstacles like the TicketMaster monolith. -
Lucinda Williams firms up summer plans
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
I like Lucinda. However, I'm not sure a discount on her merchandise is quite the grand gesture she believes it to be, but that's just my 2¢. Does the artist really have that little say regarding when and where they play that they can't affect ticket prices directly themselves? -
Who is your favorite Heartbreaker?
weird monkey replied to JohnsonBibbyWag's topic in Great Wide Open
I guess I didn't answer either, but it's like asking which is your favorite child. As long as they stay out of jail, I love 'em all! -
It's unanimous, then. We'll just leave Twitter to the twits. :003:

Welcome to the Farm, Kevin! :039:

^ Edited to add: I don't understand people's seeming neediness to be 'connected' all the time, through phone calling, texting, twittering, etc. The media glommed on to to twitter when the juveniles in congress were doing it during one our President's major speeches instead of respecting him. This naturally appealed to the media's sensibilities, hence it became what passes for 'news' these days.

What Music Are You Listening To Right Now?
weird monkey replied to Refugee's topic in Creative Corner
Tim Easton - "Porcupine" LP -
I like veggies! I could be a lacto-vegetarian anyway, and since it isn't an ethical decision, eggs are okay too, since they are in so many things. And ditto for jell-o. Uh, did I just fall off the wagon? It's my husband who insists on an omnivorous diet. I think we'd save lots of money and be healthier without so much meat in our diet.

I played clarinet in school band - not because I had any burning desire to play the instrument - but because my family had one and I was expected to participate in band. I got out as soon as I could. On my own I learned piano, but I'm a painter, not a musician. Now that I have a broader knowledge of music generally than I had when I was 13 (which was zero), I have much more respect for different instruments, even the 'dorky' ones (in the eyes of a 13 year old) like the clarinet!
