  1. Part of the reason people aren't buying cars is because in spite of the bailouts, banks aren't lending, and most of us can't buy a car without financing. Hello GMAC? GM was a double winner in the bailout stakes, imho. I feel sorry for the workers (my cousin is a GM employee in engineering - I dunno if he's affected by this or not), and the country in general, because it affects us all eventually. The writing was on the wall years in advance that people were not going to buying huge suvs indefinitely. US automakers chose to ignore that.
  2. I agree with Nurk's assessment, but what's funny, was saying: "they rarely accepted the odd offers", means they thought it was okay in moderation?
  3. "There's no success like failure And that failure's no success at all."
  4. What a great essay! Horny Salmon! I love it! Thanks for coming around to share it, and welcome to the Farm. :039:
  5. Those pictures are just gorgeous. It makes me want to grab my passport and run out the door! I can't wait for more I love vacation photos.
  6. Thanks Nurky! Those are nice looking 'muffs. I just checked Amazon and their Shhhh!-secret price is $59.95. I'll keep them in mind when I'm in the market for new ones. I'm pretty sure my Sennheisers are the cheapest they make, and they're nothing like those. I'd like a pair of the cover the ear type. My turntable is an Audio Technica, and I'm impressed by how sturdy it is (even though I wish I still had my Pioneer from 1979).
  7. Home theater. It's a bit of stretch, but I guess if there's a tv attached, it's a home theater. I don't like the receiver though; it's got a digital readout instead of buttons, sliders, and switches, so it's hit and miss getting the speakers to sound their best. The speakers are nothing special compared to a serious setup. Usually I just use my headphones, a serviceable set of Sennheisers, or Vmoda earphones when I'm active.
  8. [pouts just a little]Yeah, it sucks to be me[/pouts just a little] But it's cool that they rationed them, and didn't let one person snap them all up or something. Thanks for thinking of me, though. I hope you get the Dead Weather single, too. A friend in Denmark got one off eBay (he's got a ginormous collection of Dylan 45s) , so if there's a will..., but I'm pretty skint, so it's okay. I'm looking forward to the album release.
  9. ^ Sure looks like it. Only more wrinkled. I'm fan of the rumpled look myself.
  10. I pretty much have it to myself, excepting the chores I have to do every day. Beyond coffee and checking up on things online, I also just play it by ear. There's always something that needs doing.
  11. I voted probably yes, because I did in the past, but then came back. Maybe I should have voted 'already did'
  12. 1. Would you return to high school life for a week? Why or why not? Oh, Hell No. It was the most alienating environment I have ever encountered. 2. What is/was your favorite subject in high school? Art. It was a free-for-all for everyone else, but I really, desperately wanted to learn and create. (see No. 1) 3. What is/was your favorite high school hangout? What do/did you do there? In someone's car heading in some other direction. 4. Who are/were your favorite three teachers in high school? Mrs Koch. Mr Schmidt, Mrs Davis 5. What was the craziest thing you did in high school? Won't say; I think they arrest you for it now. Or at the very least, end up getting on Fark if you get caught. 6. Take this quiz - Who Were You In High School? You Were the Arty Kid Whether you were a drama freak or an emo poet, you definitely were expressive and unique. Well, I did take drama so I could help build sets, and run around up on the catwalks in the auditorium. If I'd grown up in a more enlightened time and place, I'd be a set designer, sound engineer, or something like that now. Back then girls were still steered away from vocations like that and discouraged from 'unrealistic' goals. I blame that for my current misery, actually. You're probably a little less weird these days - but even more talented! No I'm just as weird, but I live in a more tolerant place. Too bad past decisions have sucked the well of my creativity nearly dry.
  13. The cats get Wellness brand, from the feed store. It's grain free, with veggies and meat, but no animal by products. http://wellnesspetfood.com/ We got the dog back from the monks (lonnnngg story, that) because he was going out in the street. He's getting old, so right now I cook up a large batch of Ground Turkey, Rice, mixed veggies and a clove of garlic. I refrigerate a third and freeze the rest, it lasts about a week.
  14. I was going to bump the other thread this morning, but got busy. Thanks for the reminder, Ref! I just called the local store in my area, and the guy was like, oh, isn't that today? :116: And they aren't carrying anything to promote it.:085: I don't think I can drive all the way to Riverside tomorrow, and that's next closest, since I don't have a ticket to Coachella, the other event in my area. If anyone's going to a store that's actually participating, pick me up the Dylan 45 could you please? I'm serious. I'll pay for it + shipping. PM me.
  15. :055:Matching aviators! How cute is that? I was sort of hoping the whole band would be wearing them, but no. :085:
  16. I'm down to one sub, and that one sits around until I glance at it, or store it. A friend loans me The Economist(s), which I hold onto for long enough to look like I've perused them, and then I give them back. The intrawebs has replaced periodicals in my life. How did I ever live without lolcats?
  17. 1. How neat are the clothes you wear? Do you iron? Fold them promptly? Pull them out of the dirty laundry? I sport a rumpled look. I hang or fold clothes after washing, but they never look as crisp as they do if can be bothered to iron them. I avoid ironing, unless I am going out and what I'm wearing is really creased. Never, ever pull stuff out of the hamper though. I'd rather clash or look frumpy than wear dirty clothes. 2. How do you make your bed? Hospital corners? All over the floor? Or somewhere in between? I pull the covers up and smooth them out. No decorative pillows, shams or nonsense like that. 3. Do you leave dirty dishes in your dishwasher? In the sink? On the counters? In other rooms? No dishwasher. I wash as I cook, and after meals. Snack dishes are put in the dishpan. 4. Are your floors clean enough to eat off of or is there an old science experiment growing in the corner? We have 2 cats and a woolly booger of a dog 'nuff said. No science experiments though. 5. How clean is the outside of your car? How about the inside? Is there junk in your trunk? I've needed to wash it for 2 weeks, but it's been too cold. It desperately needs waxed too. I live on a dirt road, so it gets dusty fast, and there is always gravel on the floormats. There's a couple briefcases in the backseat, and a couple towels because I still take care of an old customer's spa from my pool cleaning days. No junk in my trunk, but I love the connotations! :003:
  18. My husband. His idea of organizing is just piling things up. He stacks things in front of filing cabinets and closets, which make it hard for me to put things away.
  19. I started to post something along those lines earlier, but edited it out right after I posted it. It seemed gauche to post about how gauche it would be under the circumstances. There does appear to be wisps of smoke in the picture though. And the retrospeak thread reminded me about how we overused that phrase in Jr High, and how silly it sounds. I couldn't resist.
  20. Looks to me like he's chewing on a pen cap in the photo, who holds a cigarette like that?
  21. Ha! Ha! That song turned me off the band for an extra 10 years (my loss): Back in the 90s, a co-worker kept repeating the phrase, "It's Good To Be King", so I finally asked him about it, and he lent me a copy of Wildflowers. Sorry, but at the time, I was underwhelmed. My husband bought the CD a few years ago, and I like it well enough now, but I still don't like It's Good To Be King.
  22. Happy Birthday, Ryan! Thanks for keeping this place ship-shape!
