I just liked the idea of a different version of the cover of "Best of Everything" with the other band members... so I put something together.  Thought I would share...

I’ve been moving so I hadn’t seen this until today! Thanks so much! I actually got a Sirius XM subscription for my birthday (yay!), but I’ve only managed to hear the song on TPR once, and I caught it in the middle! 🤣 Your recording is much appreciated!

Strange days indeed / Most peculiar mama...
Well, listen in, chaps, latest meeting of the music liberation committee.  Rick Rubin's vegan. Good news. So find him at his regular haunt at his localavore organic farmers market at dawn. Show him - let him taste - some new-harvest honey or biodynamic garlic. He's gonna be distracted. Piece of cake after that - swipe his phone from his home-knitted shoulder bag. Run. And dodge really fast through the crowd to getaway vehicle. Note: will need to find someone who can outrun a vegan. His beard might slow him down considerably.
The music can be liberated & immediately fly free.  It will thank us. We will thank us. This is the easiest plan ever.
Except ... hmm ... all my vegan friends tend to be, well, intense. So pack extra coconut extract to distract them too.

As I was about to sit down and sip some non-Maxwell House coffee it occurred to me to once again return to the point that ALL THE REST should be the next release.
    1) Supposedly Tom had it completed (or close to?) before his death.
    2) The Anniversary of it is coming up in the Fall
    3) It is, as far as we know, the one definite project Tom mentioned and wanted to have released.
---All it would take is to release it in the form he wanted as a affordable single or double disc release. If there's some behind the scenes footage use some of that in promotion, maybe pick a new song as an attempt at a single and have it in stores by the time of its anniversary. It'll carry over into the Christmas shopping season as well.
    4) Don't muddle the  issue with even more tracks found by Ryan; save those for another release, just go with what Tom wanted. Simple.
Unless there's some strange unknown reason why this hasn't happened, it goes to show how messed up things are behind the scenes, aside from the lawsuits.
    Rant done.
    Peace.

It's "Help Me," the Sonny Boy Williamson song you can hear them rehearsing in the Mojo minidoc. I got in my car just in time to hear the last 20 or 30 seconds of the song this morning. I love the song, and am excited to hear the full thing!

I'm 19, gonna be 20 in less than a month! I've noticed TP's music in the background all my life, but I didn't really become a superfan until last October (and I regret not getting into his music sooner IMMENSELY!).
This forum has been an incredible discovery for me. I know all the songs from all the official albums, and I've seen plenty of live videos and documentaries, but I had no idea how much else was out there in terms of bootlegs, interviews, and all of Tom's Sirius shows (I knew about BT, but not Tom Talks to Cool People). I'm glad a place like this exists; it's been really helpful for this young fan who just wants to know all she can know! 😁
On another note, I also run a TP Tumblr if anyone around these parts still checks those out! My username is under-them-skies-of-blue (just like on here 🤣)!

I'm now in my mid 30s (how the heck did THAT happen?! LOL) but when I was in high school, there were A LOT of TP fans. The Greatest Hits album (the one with the circular picture on the red background) was the only thing that everyone could agree on to listen to in my art class. In other words, once someone put that CD in the stereo, it stayed in! With other CDs, someone (another student) would go and change it after 1-3 songs. Or a mini-argument would start.
Glad to see some Zers have picked up on this wonderful band with a wonderful legacy. 😎

    Massive bummer!
And everyone here let out a collective, heartbreaking “Noooooooooooooooooo!”
The key players in maintaining and championing the future of Tom’s legacy are Dana, Adria, Annakim, Mike, Ben and Ryan U. All pretty awesome people.
And the one’s apparently at odds (most visible) at the moment are the first 3 mentioned.
The important thing to remember here is that there’s always 3 sides to every story (or six). As fans looking in from the outside, we have no clue as to what’s happening or being said behind the scenes. We don’t experience the drama, tension and sadness first hand. No use taking sides. I’m certainly not going to call any of them evil. We can only speculate and add our own thoughts to the mix (which, at the end of the day is potentially futile, and sometimes not constructive).
That being said (ha ha), here’s a perspective.
Each of these 6 individuals were a vital part of Tom’s life. Obviously. No one’s arguing that. In fact, we’re thankful for these people like we were for Tom. They were in Tom’s camp. His inner circle. His family!
Each of them should absolutely have a say as to what goes down from here on out. As to how the story unfolds. Each should have sway, as their opinions, convictions and beliefs matter! Is it any surprise that all 6 of them might have completely different ideas and desires to bring to the table?

Adria: "Hey, here’s what I’m thinking. You know, my dad wrote so many awesome songs besides all those massive big hits! We should spotlight more on the lesser known but equally great songs, and put out a collection of rare/overlooked/underappreciated songs. Also known as hidden gems, or deep cuts. I’ve always loved Keeping Me Alive! What about Waiting for Tonight!? Oh my goodness, the list will be endless. Could be a 3 disc set!"
Dana: “Guys, we totally need to do a 25th Anniversary Wildflowers release, since this was the last project Tom was working on for the last few years! It’s perfect timing for this year. Come on, we all know how much this album meant to Tom, and the fans as well.”
Annakim: "I have any idea. How about a release we call “Tom Petty: Peace and Love”, and we collect tracks that have a running theme about how groovy, mellow and chill our dad was. Here’s a few off the top of my head that we could include: Something in the Air, Alright For Now, A Higher Place, …what do you think? Can you dig it? And we could do more themed releases….like Tom Petty: Songs for Stoners….yeah!"
Mike: “Hey guys, how about that Fillmore ’97 run? I think every show was recorded, was it not? There’s some good stuff on there! Shoot, maybe it could be a 26 disc box set, of every show. I don't know...I think the fans would like that…"
    Ben: "Yeah, what Mike said."
Ryan U: "Guys, can I come up from the Tape Basement now? I’ve been down here for weeks now. I think you forgot about me. At any rate, dang, the Heartbreakers were a GREAT LIVE BAND. How about a staggered series of digital only concert releases? Premium bootlegs. We could pick one show from ever tour, chronologically. Release one like every month. You know, call it Tom’s Live Treasure. Charge $10 buck a digital download. Kinda like how Springsteen does it. What a novel idea! BTW, I found this song called “For Real.” Check it out…

    --------
My point…all good! We say yes!
I have to believe that their intentions are good, emotions are raw, and convictions are strong. And that combination is creating an impasse. Maybe they aren’t quite able to see through the haze right now because of their loss. The forest through the trees. They are hurting and grieving, they are devastated by the untimely passing of Tom. It’s understandable. It’s simply hard to imagine a world without Tom Petty in it. It’s a terrible thought, and a sad reality.
    So here we are.
We all want Tom back. We all cherish the man and his music. We all get super excited about the thought of new TPATH music coming out.
The saddest thing is the apparent inability or unwillingness to choose to come together for the greater good. Are they not able to put aside some personal ideas and ideals to make it work for all? Everyone sufferers as a result of this, yes, even the fans.
It’s always so unfortunate when it goes down in public like this. It has the potential to do irreversible damage to family relationships, which is sad. Once these things get set in motion, it’s hard to go back.
    For the love of Tom…

If this turns out to be true it will be too cool  Looks like the current owner was on TPN and the buyer arranged the deal without a realtor putting it on the market. Seems like the intent is to turn it into a Gainsville music museum! This will make it much less creepy to take pictures of the place in the future LOL

Petty song by Trahan? Hah! Yeah, that's messed up song-writing. Cheesy, you say? I'm describing it as a triple deluxe cheese pizza with an extra topping of cheese. Maybe they started with good intentions, then lost their way.
Reminds me of seeing a trailer for a film - a rom-com about relationships within a band, I think. Equally contradictory message. I didn't watch whole film, so could be wrong. Anyway. The film's title is "I Hate Tom Petty." Gasp, shock, who would say such a terrible thing? Yet main character enthuses: "I want to be Tom Petty. He sings, he writes, he produces. He's had commercial success and no compromise."
    eyeroll.
Oh, also, FYI, I listened to some of your Charlie Worsham's performances, just on YouTube. 🎸 He's easy to like! Interesting songwriting too, depth to his lyrics in the few I heard. There he is, playing TPATH covers, including a 2017 tribute "2 Gunslingers" &. also "American Girl" from, what, 8 years ago? And there he is, discussing music with Marty Stuart at Grand Ole Ophry. So you could maybe see that as nice link with calibre of country musicians the Heartbreakers admired & worked with?  All pulling on rope as same team of tug-of-war between good music & rubbish music. Also, as you know, TP = passionate about encouraging & supporting new musicians (like says in Musicares speech). So, both of those are positive, even if remains mystery about whether TP ever heard CW's music & whether he'd have liked it.

The way he talks about missing Tom makes me almost feel a little bad for disliking him!
I think the song at least means well, which is nice. I heard one the other day by an artist named Alyssa Trahan that was called "Petty," and it's filled with random references to song titles of his. The chorus said something to the effect of "you ain't Tom, so don't be petty." It's supposed to be about not being petty and seeking revenge on a past lover who did you wrong, but because it's also trying so hard to be a giant Tom Petty reference, I think it comes across as very cheesy, but that's just me! 🤷‍♀️
(also I get that his name literally has the word "petty" in it, but do you have to imply that he himself was petty? 😂)

I hate to reply to an old thread, but this caught my eye and I just had to jump in and say something.
I listened to this song right after it came out. I can't say I'm a huge fan (but maybe that's mostly because they got the location of the vampires wrong. It's Ventura, not Mulholland!). I've never been a Kip Moore fan; just can't really stand his voice or the typical subject matter of his songs (no offense meant here!), but one of the other writers, Charlie Worsham, is one of my absolute favorite artists. I had no idea he was a big Petty fan (but it certainly seems that just about every modern country artist is), so I was pleased to see him listed as a writer on this. I know Tom didn't care much for modern country (so I don't imagine he'd care much for this song), but I personally think Charlie is better than most modern country artists, that is, his songs have a little more substance (for the most part!). I wonder if Tom had been familiar with his music what he would have thought...
Anyway, thanks for reading this little rant 😂

Well, how perfect... anything you hate about the song, you can blame Kip Moore. Anything you like about it, that's because of Charlie Worsham's musical influence & taste. 😀 I see there's a YouTube clip of them playing a acoustic version of this, in concert in Milwaukee.
American songwriting.com has this to say about their collaboration.
One of the EP’s standout tracks is “It Ain’t California,” a warm slice of sparkling heartland rock co-written with Worsham and Jon Mabe. Moore wrote the song years back, and he and Worsham updated the tune in the studio.
“I’ve always been super attached to that particular chorus melody, but never truly felt a connection to the verses,” Moore says of the song. “Charlie heard me singing it in the studio and was immediately drawn to it, asking me what that was. I told him I wasn’t in love with the verses and was always in search of changing them to match the intensity and vulnerability of the chorus. We then began discussing our sadness over Tom Petty passing, which trailed into classic songs in general. Before you knew it, we were re-writing the song with a little bit of those concepts in mind, with the backbone being that it will never be the same without Petty.”

From what I heard, Tom used to tape the show at SiriusXM studios, but after breaking windows and something about Vaseline spread all over the studio at a party they had at the recording, they were asked to leave and never come back. Thankfully, the show was continued and Tom found a recording studio to use near the LAX airport. Whether the studio was called "Rick's" or not is unknown. Most likely a fake name for radio or privacy purposes, but they did sell t-shirts for "Rick's Airport Recorders" and I have one! That's about as much as I can say and believe it as the truth about that story.
