Big Blue Sky got a reaction from TomFest in What Music Are You Listening To Right Now?
^^^^
Keith Richards in Life:
I absorbed so much from Gram, that Bakersfield way of turning melodies and also lyrics, different from the sweetness of Nashville - the tradition of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens, the blue-collar lyrics from the immigrant world of the farms and oil wells of California, at least that's where it had its origins in the 50s and 60s. That country influence came through in the Stones. You can hear it in "Dead Flowers," "Torn and Frayed," "Sweet Virginia" and "Wild Horses," which we gave to Gram to put on the Flying Burrito Brothers record Burrito Deluxe* before we put it out ourselves. We had plans, or at least great expectations, Gram and I. You work with somebody that good and you think, we've got years, man, no rush, where's the fire? We can put some really good stuff together. And you expect it to evolve.
I def recommend looking beyond the main scandal stories about Gram Parson's life. I admit I was guilty of this, but didn't realise it for a while. (Because I'm an idiot, I guess). His song-writing with "Streets of Baltimore" = you just know it ain't gonna end well, as (no offence to the fine city) it's not where many people dream of going.
* Burrito's version = far superior to Stones, imho. Stones were playing a version of country they learnt from him, whereas Gram was already country.
This, below, is a poster from a series by music journalist Pete Frame. I hope you can expand the image okay. Or if not, look online for an image in "family trees" Pete Frame.

Big Blue Sky got a reaction from Shelter in Rising Up To Paradise: New Year’s Eve on Kauai, Hawaii DK show
Uh, I am re-posting that earlier post from Mike Campbell (from their pre-NYE-concert rehearsals). It's the post which I tried unsuccessfully to post from my new phone back on Jan 1.
Anyway, too much of the Dirty Knobs is never enough... right?

It's from @jasonsinay instagram (I took a peek at this link on Mike Campbell's instagram just out of curiosity.) Oh my! Also, he posts a lot of photos of gorgeous vintage guitars!

Big Blue Sky reacted to TomFest in What Music Are You Listening To Right Now?
I've been listening to a lot of Gram Parsons lately. His 2 solo albums are available on a single CD release. Everyone should have those. Here's one that I know Tom Petty loved and played on his radio show. Emmylou Harris is great here also.

Big Blue Sky reacted to Hoodoo Man in Old & new interviews with Tom & the Heartbreakers
came across this interview with the new guy. Seems like a guy that would be fun to have a few beers with. And actaully would have a few beers with you.

Big Blue Sky reacted to GetLuckySometimes in "Echo" from March 13, 1999
Hi everyone,
This is my very first post, but I have browsed your forum off and on for months. It's fantastic! Anyway, I was hoping to track down a recording of "Echo" from March 13, 1999 at the Fillmore. It appears to be the only time he ever played the song live and I would LOVE to hear it. Does a recording exist?
Thanks so much!
( I ran a search before posting -- sorry if I missed this being shared elsewhere on the forum)

Big Blue Sky got a reaction from StephanieEarl in What Music Are You Listening To Right Now?
A podcast about country music called "Cocaine and Rhinestones" written & presented by Tyler Mahan Coe.
Very well researched by the sounds of it, using sources including published books, word of mouth stories and even archives in Nashville. First series is available (14 episodes) and he's currently working on his 2nd series.
His episode about Merle Haggard's Okie From Muskogee is fascinating.

Big Blue Sky reacted to Mudcrutch in New Front Page question
Yes, the front page will start looking like the old one hopefully this weekend. A redo was necessary as the current system didn't support a front page as it was.
This change will also allow certain content to have a permanent home, such as the super bowl and other videos, bios, etc.

Big Blue Sky got a reaction from Mudcrutch in Get me away from this mud Palm Beach Pop Festival 1969
Well, about the guys in the mud, it might be helpful to compare them against a photo of Mike Campbell from soon afterwards...
You'll see I've cropped this from that photo by Red Slater (in Mudcrutch vault) of the first time Tom Petty & Mike Campbell met at Mudcrutch Farm. Which would've been in, what, late 1969 / early 1970?
