So Mike is in Fleetwood Mac ?

Tributes and covers from peers and writers

Okay this is more of just a passing mention, but it made me burble with joy when I heard it. It's from a EDM song by AKLF called "Playground (Shut Up)" which addresses the current beef between Eminem and Machine Gun Kelly. Takin' shots so the news will cover it every little diss track's gonna land you another hit. Holy shit, have I figured it out? You're trying to make more money so you're dragging it out? Acting like you're Tom Petty and you won’t back down 'cause you're worried someone better’s gonna take the crown?

Gainsville (Outtake 1998) coming up next

I perceive this in the same reasoning that "Keep A Little Soul" was left off of Long After Dark - it didn't fit from a tonal perspective (which is of course has already been expressed). But what's really interesting to me is the quality of reflection and nostalgia, something which Tom didn't do much of. The more I listen to it the more I like it. The way I see it, someone who allowed silly outtakes to be released on Playback wouldn't be upset about other parts of his legacy being shared in the same fashion. But then again, none of us could truly say how he might feel, and we'll never know now.

    That's great, I love it!
  6. I think I recall reading about that, yes. Very commendable.

Tom must have enjoyed that first LZ album and then just stopped paying attention to them.

    Question of the day 9/19/18

I think if you try to conceive of it beyond the strict definitions of genre then it makes more sense. Or at least that's how I see it; being just as much about attitude and innovation and iconoclasm as about actual music. To me, being inclusive is the most rock n'roll thing of all.

    Question of the day 9/19/18

There is a TPATH star there, yes. The ceremony was April 28, 1999.

    Question of the day 9/19/18

As the ensemble? Probably not - but they're all officially Hall of Famers anyway, right? So that's a good thing. They're bedrock now: crucial and foundational.
  12. Here's a recent article about the festival: https://www.wuft.org/news/2018/09/13/gainesville-prepares-to-honor-tom-petty-and-celebrate-his-birthday/
  13. Yeah I posted about this in another thread a few days back - it was wonderful to see Stan play on the acoustic version because it reminded me of the way TPATH played it on the '89-'91 tours, where it was really a vocal duet for Tom and Stan.
  14. I got in the car yesterday morning, all ready to put in a CD, and "Don't Do Me Like That" was playing on the radio which gave me a big smile.
