  1. I don't think it's a matter of what "benfit [sic] of all" is. But I get it. YOU WANT IT SO IT'S COOL. And not hypothetically what would I do. I have AG from Night One just until he said stop. Then I stopped. I like the artist. I like his work. He asks not to record so I stopped. It wasn't hard to do. You're an adult. Make your own choices. I'm done with this topic.
  2. I don't think you're being harsh. From reading what you wrote I think I wasn't clear. I knew on night one that he made the no video request for AG (but I didn't think it relevant to mention in my very brief "review" of night one) and made a poor word choice when discussing night two by using "this time." I quickly wrote about both nights. I understand why you interpreted "this time" to imply he didn't make the request on night one whereas the distinction between nights was only that on night one it wasn't until after he started for about 45 seconds and stopped that he made the request and on night two ["this time"] he made the request before he started the song. The person that posted it can speak for himself. There is no doubt in my mind Benmont requested on both nights that his performance of AG not be recorded. Both of us can't be correct. I'll have to ask him next year when he comes back so we can determine who is the more reliable witness. ๐Ÿ‘๏ธEye witness accounts are notoriously unreliable. ๐Ÿ˜Ž And I'm not the hall monitor. Do what you want. ๐Ÿ˜˜ https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/do-the-eyes-have-it/
  3. It wasn't implied it was an explicit request -- on both nights. The first night he started and after a short bit which he had trouble with he stopped and asked if we could not record it and then started again. The second night just before he started the song he requested the house turn down the lights and that we not record it. People were recording other songs both nights. It was only before the TPATH song each night that he made the explicit request. It's also consistent with what he asked me after the 2017 Iridium show when I asked him whether he minded if I posted video from the show and he said post whatever I wanted except for You Can Still Change Your Mind and added just about exactly what he said at Rockwood -- it was just for us (meaning the people there in the room). The TPATH material is obviously tough for him emotionally and I guess he wants to keep it in the room so to speak. I'm just passing on what transpired and what the poster "quite versed in TPATH" said is not what I recollect. I had two beers spread over about 90 minutes on a full stomach and do not believe I was in any manner impaired. ๐Ÿ˜‡ Anyway, I think we all just want to enjoy the music and spread it to other fans so that guys intentions are good, I think.๐Ÿ˜˜
  4. I was aware of this clip and also that, as I mentioned, he specifically asked us before this one song not to film it. He said words to the effect that he didnโ€™t want it to be a YouTube moment. Why canโ€™t people respect that ?
  5. Night two I thought was even better. I thought Benmont sounded better and I liked the set list more. Plus no hecklers. ๐Ÿ˜Ž He did American Girl again as the last song before the encore. This time before the start of American Girl he asked for the already dim lighting to be turned down some and that people not video. That we have it to ourselves. Earlier Regina Spektor stepped in to sing a song while Benmont played. I overheard some people that must have heard "spector" and thought she was related to Phil Spector. ๐Ÿ™„ I think she has a very beautiful voice. I'd like to see an entire show with her singing American Standards and Benmont playing piano. ๐Ÿค— Here's most of it. It's a little shaky at the start but I thought you might enjoy it as is. It really was an intimate evening, just as promised. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Regina_Spektor
  6. Thank you. I did enjoy it. I think everyone did except one rude woman who didnโ€™t like him talking so much between songs and was heckling. ๐Ÿ˜ก He didnโ€™t play guitar tonight but he did play a slow version of American Girl. And the audience sang along, gently ๐Ÿค˜โค๏ธ
  7. Ok. I guess I'll be the only one. ๐Ÿ˜ช Just me and Ben and the Road Ahead. And Alice maybe, providing support from backstage. And the rest of the sold out crowd. And the sound engineer. And the lighting person, please don't forget the lighting matters. And the person bringing the food and drinks to the audience. And the host or hostess. And the person that brought Ben from his hotel he likes to stay at except the place he usually stays at is pretty far uptown so maybe he'll stay downtown so they won't have to travel that far. ๐Ÿ˜Ž And don't forget the people that bring his fancy pants Steinway and tune it. And I'm sure I'm forgetting some more folks and I apologize if I slighted anyone. The rest of you are not coming though and you'll be missed. Kudos to Ben for performing during a National Emergency.
  8. Anyone else going to see Benmont at the Rockwood Music Hall next month ? I see the tickets are all gone so it sold well.
  9. The episodes I thought were awful but the opening credits scene I did like. ๐Ÿคช
  10. I don't know how I missed this tribute and someone must have posted about it when it first came out but somehow I did and in case you did too. Why I Love Tom Petty Only approxiamtely 18,000 views is ridiculous. For his 50th video in his What Makes This Song Great series he returns to TP: Free Fallin' He already did a segment on I Won't Back Down.
  11. I didnโ€™t think any of the band were/are great singers more passable but I did enjoy when they played Psychotic Reaction with Stan singing which I saw them do I think it was the tour when they used the twisting tree on stage. Great Wide Open Tour ?
  12. Discussing the opening credits scene and the use of Refugee: โ€œ(It's also indicative of Weiner's free reign over the show's massive budget; licensing an iconic Tom Petty song is the soundtrack equivalent of filming a TV show in Paris, Austria, and beyond)... โ€Whatever it means, that opening sequence stays with me as I watch the episodes, these often too-long mini-movies about unhappy white people. It makes me wish I were enjoying a period drama about what really happened to the Romanov family. Maybe even one set to a soundtrack of Tom Petty.โ€ https://www.townandcountrymag.com/leisure/arts-and-culture/a24186077/romanoffs-refugee-tom-petty-theme-song/
  13. Not a tour but the question reminded me of the time Petty played an acoustic set at what must have been the greatest Bat Mitzvah of all time held at the Rainbow Room at Rockefeller Center. Petty was not even the headliner just one of the performers doing a set. Sadly I was not invited. http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/gossip/not-so-petty-cash-rock-bat-mitzvah-article-1.565144 " I'm told that Petty's performance - on acoustic guitar - was fabulous," The party received a lot of publicity at the time and it lead to The Feds taking an interest in the party thrower and his company and well years later Dad went off to the Big House. Still, heck of a party.
  14. Anyone else watch this new Amazon Prime show ? The best part is the opening scene which plays out with Refugee as the background music. ๐Ÿ˜Š. It starts with classical music. The camera pans around a room along a wall and turns into the room and you see the well dressed Czar and his family gathered in the room and the music changes to Refugee and then plays over the subsequent murder/execution of the family. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
  15. It was You Can Still Change Your Mind. This is not my video but I was at the show. I was sitting much closer and straight on so I could see his face and it was a very moving performance and I think everyone in the small room felt it. At the intro he said "this is by my two favorite song writers" without naming them and as if anyone in the room wouldn't know he added "it's the last song on Hard Promises." (Though I generally agree with what Twistedseal wrote especially that the Free Fallin' performance by Nicks was awful. )
  16. I prefer these lyrics to the original.
  17. Sounds cool ! Ignore the sanctimonious trolls that do not know you but judge your motives. Personally I don't think there's anything remotely odd about dreaming of someone you were friends with that has died. It might be odd if you never dreamed of them. PS, I hope your daughter is OK now.
  18. Today is World Music Day. In Manhattan it meant a lot of outdoor music performances all over the borough from professional musicians to people just learning to play and everything in between. I was walking through Union Square Park in Manhattan and I stopped to listen to a band -- they were playing American Girl. ๐Ÿ™ After I showed the guy that played Mike's part a video I have from the 40th tour of Mike playing Mike's part. What went on music-wise in your town ?

Irrelevant. You're doing the exact same thing as Lorra (without the extra bit of nastiness about Mike's "life is pretty much on the down side"); you're judging how Mike is acting in public and deciding whether you think he's acting like you think he should with respect to Tom's death. IMO, none of us has any basis whatsoever to judge how Mike chooses to deal with the death of Tom including whether or how often he wants to mention him or anything else related to it. I know this sounds self-righteous but I can not believe people are grading Mike's pubic behavior as to whether it meets some standard they think owed to Tom. Leave it alone.

    Even more cringeworthy.

I'm embarrassed for you that you posted this.
  22. Sounds like theyโ€™ll be getting back to the core guitar making business and getting rid of most of the rest as well as the CEO.
  23. I had to go play the openings to recall which is Kings Highway and which is Kings Road. Kings Highway they used to open the tour they did with the twisted tree set. They let Stan do psychotic reaction. I remember I had lousy seats. They should have done Kings Expressway. Maybe do an entire album and every song starts with Kings and ends with something to do with transportation.
