    Music genres are confusing.

While cleaning up and sorting out my music folder, I noticed that music genres are weird. I was just throwing everything that wasn't game soundtracks or new wave stuff under "rock," but that's a really broad category. So I went to Discogs and MusicBrainz to see if I could split it up a bit more. But then that's just...confusing. An album I thought was clearly hard rock is actually "alternative metal." And I thought that "album rock" was a radio format. I guess I'll just keep putting everything under rock. Including the soundtracks and new wave stuff.

Okay, now I've gotten things back up. From the August 1986 edition of Guitar Player:

    Thoughts on Playback

I prefer headphones to speakers, honestly. I use Sony MDR-XD150, which is really only a budget pair but pretty solid. Aside from the ear-pad covering, which got worn down to the foam, it's still in great shape. Nice thick cables.

    "Best Of Everything" album released

I don't recall any of the lyrics bleeped out the one time I heard it. Before I realized that the censored songs were provided by the record label, I thought the guy who censored the songs at the radio station suffered from mood swings. The f-bomb was near-universally censored, but it seemed to be 50/50 on "shit" and once in a while mostly-innocuous words like "ass" would get censored.

I've heard it once on the radio, but it was around 3 a.m.

Nah. It's fun to talk about. You certainly didn't have to come in and read four pages of it.

Laptop speakers? Now that's just torture.

    Thoughts on Playback

People use the original CDs? I always just rip the discs to FLAC, put the originals on the shelf, and then burn a copy of it. Better for the copy to get scratched than the original; I can just make another. Also, don't put CD-Rs in the microwave. I did once to see what would happen. Nice light show, but the kitchen smelled like burning plastic for a week.

Gee, who would've thought that Tom Petty would be similar to Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers?

What's your software of choice for playing music? I like foobar2000.

I've gotten further opportunity to test it. I'm really quite impressed with it; it's got just as much flexibility (if not a bit more) than foobar2000. It also downloads artist pictures! There's also some other cool features, too, such as autoplaylists.

In the April '83 copy of Musician magazine, Tom said there were nineteen tracks recorded for Long After Dark. Off-hand, I can recall the ten off the album, Keeping Me Alive, Turning Point, Keep a Little Soul, possibly Wild Thing and Stories We Can Tell (as they're in the studio footage). That's fifteen. (Playing "Keeping Me Alive" in Audiosurf is funny, because it causes the game to freak out and make the track run way too fast.)

Petty mentions it in a 1983 interview (though it says J2000, which is likely a typo). If you don't mind waiting for a while, I'll check my local files/notes after I've moved to my new system.

I've also used Trout, which is pretty barebones, and Hokrain, which has a neat UI.

Yeah, that is bad, but is it down to the technology? Before cell phones, chances are those people would be applying makeup, or fiddling with the radio, or something else.
  23. Oh wow! Also, it's Aimee, but that spelling's sort of stupid. I've been going more and more by my first name, Brianna, for some time now. (Aimee's a middle name.)

I wouldn't consider it bad, but it's annoying to see how much mobile has saturated things. Some year or two ago, CBC.ca made some changes to their site to make it better display on mobiles. Responsive design's one thing (I've made sure that the Archives displays well on phones), but take a look at this shit.

Nah, it's people of all ages. Something like a third of baby boomers play mobile games every day.
