Charges have been filed against a rural Lafayette woman accused of biting and striking her 5-year-old stepdaughter, causing multiple injuries that a Tippecanoe County sheriff's deputy described as difficult to quantify. "You could see some blood pooling in the bottom of her eyes," Detective Nathan Brown said, "and some bruising." The stepmother, Jamie Lynn Weaver, 22, was charged today in Tippecanoe Superior Court 2 with neglect of a dependent, a Class C felony, and battery on a child, a Class D felony. The girl was treated at Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis and released the same day. Brown said the child and two younger boys in the home were removed. A home telephone listing for Weaver's address in Shadeland was disconnected as of Monday. Brown said the child's school contacted the Department of Child Services on Feb. 21 after noticing injuries on her. According to a probable cause affidavit filed with the charges, the injuries also included a bruise on the right side of the girl's face; bruises on both her lower jaws; and what appeared to be bite marks on her left hand and wrist area. Though both the girl and Weaver initially told investigators that the girl's biological mother hit her, Brown said Weaver is believed to have caused the injuries. He declined to comment on why Weaver is suspected of hitting the girl. According to the affidavit, the child's biological mother lost custody of her and a younger boy months prior after allegations of abuse. Tippecanoe County deputy prosecutor Laura Zeman said Weaver was arrested back in February and was released from the Tippecanoe County Jail after posting bond. I wanted to post this. This little girl rode the bus of a very good friend of mine. She is the one who got me to be a bus driver. That morning was so sad. My friend called me crying, Said the kindergartner got on her bus with make up on. When the girl looked up at Miss Tami her eyes had blood in them, a bite mark on her and busies on her face.The stepmom sent her to school like this!! As a bus driver/ mother myself I was in tears.Why must this happen? I will never understand how anyone could raise a hand to a child .I hope the good lord will send " mommy" to hell. I wanted to post this to show not all bus drivers are bad, we are the first ones to see your kids and the last from the school corporations. Please thank your child's driver. My kids have had some bad ones, this is why I'm a driver today.
