  1. I think this thread displays the differing views across this country. Nice it can be discuss with yelling. Farmers are nice people.

My money will go to Pat's steakhouse if I'm ever there. He has the legal right as demonstrated through the court. I guess if I opened a resturant and didn't want to serve blue-eyed, blond women who wore a size 4 or smaller, I would have that right too. Doesn't mean I'm smart! I wonder if he has benefited from the publicity or not.

There are many levels to this arguement. I see it played out in the educational system fairly often. Some state levels tests are provided in multiple languages while other states deliver tests in English. I see schools not making Adaquate Yearly Progess (and can be taken over by state and restructured) because of students with limited english profeciency. Students are given three years to assimilate into English in TX. So do we educate in native language or English? I grew up in the reactionary educational philosophy of teach content and knowledge will follow the langauage. I know of people who have lost their native language as parents wanted them to grow up "American" as other families try to teach their children multiply languages early as it is easier to learn. Back in the day, when they said, "learn English and no Spanish in the classroom or at school," we didn't count the dropout rates - now considered an accountability issue. So we have, in some areas of TX with high Hispanic pop, 90% of Hispanics not finishing school. In my own South Texas high school, we were over 50% Hispanic with three elementary schools but as we moved through the grades we became more and more white.

Bottom line for me is this educational disparity becomes a social justice issue. This reinforces a wider gap between lower and middle SES. Uneducated workers take the marginal work (which I would argue those of higher SES benefit from), circles of poverty are continued.

So to get out of this, when I see the article about Gino, I see the issue as much more complicated than my decision to eat there or not and his decision to serve me or not. I can almost hear Gino saying that his parents learned English when they came here and so should everyone else. It's the American way. I disagree. It was his parent's experience which is likely different from that of South Texas. I was also in Navajo Nation last week. Was that the American experience? Again, poverty, lack of education.............should they learn English since we conquored them?

    Sorry for the rant!!

  2. the thing i didn't like about copacabana is the premis - two bored lovers cheating on each other by putting an ad in the paper to find out they are perfect for each other. if i found out barf boy had done that (one been bored with me and two ready to cheat) I WOULD not be drinking a pina colada and running off in the rain with him. He, however, might be wearing a drink and sleeping in the rain.

  3. 1. How long ago did you join Mudcrutch Farm? I really don't remember. Probably 4 to five years

    2. How did you find out about Mudcrutch Farm? From TDK site - at least that's what I think

    3. If someone introduced you to Mudcrutch Farm, is he/she still posting on the Farm? I think Nancy told me about this site from TDK so yes

    4. Have you introduced anyone to Mudcrutch Farm? Barf Boy has lurked a few times but not often

    5. Do you have a Live Journal/MySpace/Facebook site? Is your site public or private/friends only, and why? No, this is really the only site I visit on the internet that is not work related. Sad internet life but I have learned to knit.

  4. Yes, I have memories of a summer cold, fever, drinking too much, and head butting the woman standing nest to me (not on purpose) during MaryJane's Last Dance. Barf Boy had to run inerfearance after that. Such a good man! We had a great time meeting before the concert. I know others met up after show but I was toast after wine and one of those foot long margaritas. Yahoo! Ready for more!

  5. I've been on the board for about 20 minutes so that's all. I'm back in office after over a week on road (with hubby and puppies so it was nice) I have sooooooo much to catch up with. And people keep coming in to chat since we haven't seen each other in a while. I see the chat time as important to maintaining good working relatioinships..........

  6. Hi Kyle and Dear des - I will also be at the Woodlands and also at Selma. Last tour, Lizzy and Kay did a great job of finding us a meeting place at that cute bar in the Woodlands. They had a TP & HB video playing on plasma tv prior to the concert. As far as hooking up in Selma, there are no bars close by. I'm thinking it might be a good one for tailgating. Just a thought (OMG - I sound like my boss). The only time I was there was 4 - 5 years ago when it first opened and TP was first to play there - the parking lot hadn't even been paved. Anyway - it's so fun to think about upcoming shows.

  7. What are you good at? I guess the old job.

What are you not so good at? taking care of everything that needs to be tended to in a timely fashion.

Be honest, how long do leftovers last in your house? Barf Boy is really good about eating them. I cook something and he will eat for a few days.

Do you understand gigabytes and all that computer language mumbo jumbo? Not a lick

If you were a dog, would you want a really long tail, or a short stumpy tail? Long, long, long, ....and it would specialize in knocking things over and whapping people across their legs. I'd wag that baby like it has never been wagged before.....then I'd stop and wag somemore. And if by chance I could have a prehensil tail, I would fling crap at mean people, run on all fours, and wave that tail as I ran away.

  8. I organized it by alpha last year at the stong urging of Barf Boy and then put them in a 300 cd holder. He has since decided he doesn't like that method as there are cds that we would not listen to that come up randomly. I'm sure he devise some new, tedious methodology for me to waste precious time on. I mean........if he plays the music on random, wtf difference does it make of the order anyway???

  9. 1. Have you ever stayed in a hostel? If so, where? Yes, in London

    2. Name your favorite airport that you've been to? I'm not overly impressed with airports - generally speaking. The Austin airport brings in bands. Barf Boy played there three times.

    3. What is the best museum you have visited? Natural History in DC. I loved the mineral part

    4. Have you ever made friends while traveling whom you now keep in touch with on a regular basis? I did keep in touch a while but then lost touch

    5. Have you ever had a conversation with a seatmate on a plane? Being a business traveler, I do not like to have conversations with people on the plane. I have usually been talking for hours before getting on plane and do my best to avoid eye contact. I will avoid sitting with people who look as if they are vacationing. Best to sit next to lawyers as they use the time to read briefs. My computer comes out at 10,000 ft and I usually have something to read while we board, taxi, and get to 10,000.
