Currently reading "House of Rain". It's by someone Craigs. He is a contributor to NPR and adventurer. He puts forth his theory on the history and mystery of Chaco Canyon.

I only use the farm too.

being somewhat of a political junkie, I enjoy hearing what other people think, famous or not (same as Nancy). Their opinion only serves to sway my opinion of the person talking, not the candidate. I also like to easedrop on people's political conversations in airports and such. What surprises me is when people I really like and respect their opinions have different political views.

1. What is the most important thing you've ever lost? I can't remember. I'm sure something would come if I thought long and hard 2. What's your favorite scary movie? I cannot watch them 3. What’s the best thing about your pets? their unique personalities 4. Recommend a good tear jerker: My Antonia by Willa Cather 5. For us it's a drive of at least 30 minutes. We usually go when we are at the Kerrivlle Folk Fest and finding ways to beat the afternoon heat.

When they thought it was going to Corpus, my best friend would not leave. Her husband could not. He is a pipe runner for natural gas lines. He has to stay and survey damage for gas line ruptures. Once you're out, you usually cannot return and his job requires he be there. I flew through Houston yesterday. Southwest resumed flights on Tuesday. There was a flight curfew at Hobby as there were no lights on runway. Saw many houses with blue tarps on roofs. Hobby Airport is off I-45 en route to Galveston. Saw lots of standing water. The really wild thang is I have to be at a conference in Galveston in mid-October. I received email yesterday from the organization that the conference is still on. The conference center at Moody Gardens sustained little damage (go figure if you do a search for it - its on the backside of island and I thought water came in from the front and back) and the hotels on Seawall sustained little damage. I don't understand because the news reports I was watching were from the Holiday Inn Resort Hotel which I have stayed at. Looked like it was taking a beating and the Hilton is right next door. My coworker heard they had water damage to the 3rd floor. Go figure.

What a sad question. Sometimes strength comes from the silent, lonely times. I think the worst was when I divorced.

not a fan of the band at all!

Very concerned.

I hope everyone gets their power back. I heard yesterday a reporter from Houston saying there was one Home Depot that had opened and people were lined up around it, hoping to buy a generator. The store was letting one person, escorted, in at a time to make the purchase. Genereators had been brought in from somewhere by the truckload. I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a supply of canned foods on hand for emergency situations. Who would have thought Ike could have affected the Midwest the way it did.

The Austin Powers movies make me laugh.

I'd rather eat pasta than eat bread. I'd rather eat roasted garlic than worry about bad breath.

Mostly liberal, especially on social issues. When it comes to money, I would rather support the government spending the money than privitize areas of government.

I'm glad to hear all are safe in Houston. Poppiesgal is either in Sugarland or Pearland so they are to southeast of Houston. Hope they are well. I saw 2 million were without power. Hope it comes back soon. In Austin we have some clouds and winds to about 20 mph. Not a drop of rain in our drought-stricken area.

oh and emmie, i agree with nurk. It can get worse and if they win, it will get worse?? Did anyone read the New Yorker article on McCain's wife??? Yesterday the person who wrote it was on "Talk of the Nation" OMG - I'd rather have The Adams Family - they seem more wholesome.
-
absolutely brilliant move on McCain's part to nominate her and bring in the conservative right. Not being one of them, I'm scared sh#tless. Passport renewed and I'm think about Costa Rica.

Weather service warns of 'certain death' in face of Ike
kira replied to Refugee's topic in Depot Street
we were getting the high, leading clouds here in Austin this morning. Now we are actually getting some mostiure heavy clouds. The weather people dropped us from 100% chance of rain to 50% chance. Wind advisory in effect from 7 pm until 7 pm tomorrow. They are saying 40 - 50 mph wind gusts here - And it's a four hour drive to Galveston. I was in Laredo yesterday at the university there. They had 200 evacuees in from Corpus Christi. When they were projecting landfall around Corpus neither my brother nor best friend were planning to leave. With a 25' waves, our little hometown of Portland sits only 14' above sea level. My friend's husband could not leave. He checks the gas company pipelines for a living and has to be there to examine pipes immediately after storm. -

Yes, Lizzie and Kay - thoughts and hugs go out. Call if your coming my way and need a place to stay! -
Being Senator to TX Counseling Association made me want to puke!!! We are a million dollar plus non-profit, funded by membership dues and conferences. I believe strongly that, as one arm of the governing body of the organization, we have to question how the money is spent. I got really tired of people just voting yes without questioning the why, what, and how. Especially when it cost over $100 to join, I think every hundred dollas is from someone and requires good service for that money.

1. Do you have a favourite cause that you support? yes, education as a method of making one's life better 2. If so, how do you support it? with my career and enery 3. Have you been an active member of an organization (attending meetings, volunteering etc)? Yes, I'm very active with the Texas Counseling Assoication 4. Have you ever led any group? Yes, I'm currently President of Texas Association of Assessment in Counciling, Past President of Texas Career Development Assoication, and Senator from TAAC to TX Counseling Association 5. If so, how was your experience with it? TCDA was better than TAAC. Leading TAAC is like herding uninterested cats. OR: 5. If not, why? Is it a conscious choice, of lack of opportunity?

Also lots. I remember joining a gym for like $1800.00 when I was not making very much money. Stupid. Now, I didn't buy this but my dad did and is happy with purchase - that thing that grinds dog's tonails so you don't clip them. He bought two and I'm going to buy the 2nd one from him. I'll let you know if I feel foolish.

Sure. I love being in school. If I could find someone to pay all the bills, I would study all my life.
