1. How are you with names and faces?
Terrible.
2. Has someone ever called you by the wrong name and you did not correct them because it was too awkward?
People mispronounce my name all the time. I may have just introduced myself and they saw it wrong immediately. I don't care.
3. Have you ever pretended to be someone else on the phone?
Now that you all have mentioned telemarketers and prank calls of youth, certainly.
4. Would you ever go along being nice to someone you don't like just because everyone else asks you to?
It's going to happen this weekend. I can do it on short doses but if I had to get in a car and ride 6 hours with a jerk, I'd likely have to fake a nap, read a book, amuse myself within my head or something. I would likely glaze over before becoming mean.
5. Be honest, is the grass always greener on the other side?
My grass is drought tolerant.

yes, when the wind blows from north (as now) we have a delightful smell of the sepic fumes coming through the bathroom sink. I call it "Ode de Stink"

I don't know if we are the cleanest or dirtiest people around cause we go through lots of laundry. I hate putting it away. Matching socks sucks too.
-
we're having a Halloween party and so much to do. I've been away and will be away next week so need to do it but don't want to get ready.

On no. I don't recognize most of them when I see them in movies - let alone their voice.

I need a novel whisperer. Also a work one.

The Strand was not open The coolest thing was the beautiful Victorian buildings are still intact. They were pulling contents out of stores but the structures are sound. The Victorian houses in the area are also fine. Looks as if they were built well. It seems more of the 50' and 60's built bungalows are what took the trashing although most houses lost contents. I saw people walking around with masks on to protect themselves from the mold and such. My hotel is fine although I am smelling wet, moldy funk. Go home today. It's sad to see it but I'm sure the town will come back.

I'm at a conference in Galveston. They didn't cancel because they thought it best to support the city by continuing the conference and bringing money in. My, my, my. It's so sad. I couldn't believe traveling I-45 between Houston and the island. On both sides of the causeway, boats litter the median and along the highway. Boats in yards and suken boats behind Moody Gardens. I don't mean small ones either. The hotels are open and Fema has people living in them. Trees down, roofs ripped off....people pulling the entire contents of their houses out and leaving them in the street for trash pickup. Stoplights not working. No fast food resturants open. Tonight I want to visit the Strand and see what it looks like. I can't believe it was only a Cat 2.

Well said Surfnburn!

I contantly wait on Barf Boy. I've learned not to go to the car until he starts for it. Otherwise, in summer, I sit in the heat.

1. What did you want to be when you were a kid? there were so many things - from bank teller (I loved the way they stamped so hard) to teacher. My brother got all the materials from NASA and I wanted to be on an Apollo mission. Teacher, princess but never queen. Writer, poet.........the list goes on and on Forest Ranger in high school
2. What is your proudest accomplishment so far? My life is blessed so there is not one thing. I just finished writing a 2nd novel so am proud of it. Education has always been important to me. Finding a man I hope to share the rest of my life with. Those are the big three
3. What is your dream job? Published novelist
4. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? retired
5. What does it take to make you happy? a smile goes a long way

I'm looking up something. Lastly was video shot of rafts on specific rapids on Grand Canyon. Amazed to find so much

I worked as a secretary's assistant for an oil company during summers. It was great fun.

I live in a state of overwhelmed work load. That said, I tend to keep my personal life at a slow pace for balance. I don't take on additional projects unless I have to. I manage personal drive/travel time to keep it to a minimum. I play with my dogs. I spend quite evenings with Barf Boy. And I drink a few glasses of wine in the evening.

Yep, one at at time, plain not peanut. I suck each one until the little candy shell breaks. The green m&ms are saved until the last.

Yes, I'm glad to hear others don't like scary movies. When I was a kid, Dark Shadows was all the rage. Kids would run home from school to watch it and I would cause everyone was talking about it. But, it scared me plenty. At night, alone, in bed with the lights out. How I wished for a sister so I would have to share my room.
-
I don't watch them because they really scare me. Would not show them at all

Can't remember. I really wanted to vote for Kinky when he ran for governor of Texas. Voting for him would have been a vote for Rick Perry. After the results came in, Kinky took enough votes to send the election to the republicans......maybe...the national candidates don't even spend money here because they know TX will go Republican

I wonder if she has a full-time nanny?

the law wins my vote but I spent the weekend hanging out with a bunch of cavers - they don't have personal ethics but they sure are fun.

I would say more of a science to it. The more energy put into making it, the more pleasure is received from eating it.

Did nobody here get the memo that this is the YEAR of Kira?? I get to focus on me all year since turning whatever 40 something in August. Barf Boy is graduating and I'm getting good haircuts and professional color. I have a pedi and mani once a month instead of him doing it. I finished writing a novel and will spend all the energy I want on sending it to agents. So this is the year of ME. I put my needs ahead of million pissin' demands made of me weekly. I think about the things I want to think about instead of what needs to happen next. For example, Barf Boy wants a Halloween party on Friday, the 31st, so I'm doing the food and printed out fliers and he does EVERYTHING else........cleaning, decorating. set up, emails, whatever. I'm out of town until the 30th.
I know I'm ranting on and on but I've come to the conclusion that I can easily spend all my time doing for other people and for work. But if I want to accomplish the personal goal I've set..... seeing if I can become published (only been talking it for 15 years) then I have to say no and focus energy on my goal. Is that spoiled? Maybe other people see it that way because I give my energy to everyone who asks for it.

I don't think so. Like Nancy, did it as a kid. Didn't think it was much fun either.
