  1. 1. How many foreign countries have you visited? 10

    2. What do you always take with you on vacation?contacts and meds

    3. Name something you've lost recently: I'll go with Sharon and say my mind

    4. Do you prefer action packed vacations or relaxing ones?

    both

    5. Other people's vacation photographs: do you really want to see them? I enjoy them.

  2. Intersting question. I can see both sides of the arguement. The reason for it is to keep users out of jail. Austin just went to anything under 3 ozs is a ticket. Will be use responsibly.

That said, the number one abused drug in the US is legal and it's alcohol. I think back to my drug counselor days and long-term effects on impairment of weed vs. alcholol demonstrated through driving and flying simulations. Those who had smoked had longer reactions and made a satisticlly significant greater number of mistakes even after 24 hours of partaking.

It's a wash for me. I don't used because it makes me feel stupid. Tax money would be great. Can't decide.

  3. Ok, test junkie weigh in. yes and yes! There are two IQ tests - one for adults and one for children. If memory serves me correctly (yes..measured by the test to some extent) it is a battery of tests measuring different kinds of intelligence. Two subscores - verbal vs. spacial. The average IQ is 100. I believe the standard deviation is 15 points. IQ of less than 70 is the diagnostic for mental retardation. Over 115 is considered above average. Tests are timed and the longer you take the lower your score. If you want to take an IQ test (just for grins but I wouldn't share your score) contact the psychology or educational psychology department (within the graduate department). Graduate students have to give x number of practice tests for a class and they are usually searching for subjects.

  4. yes carol, that's so sad.

I'm sitting in ABQ airport with a tired back and won't be home for another 6 hours. This will be a 14 hour day. I spoke to 55 people without a mic and some bozo was outside the hotel with a weedeater so close we could all smeel the fumes. Had to yell and now throat hurts and have lost part of voice.

  5. I usually ignore. Will make fun of those who are really loud. The ones that sometimes freak me out are the loud talkers with only the earpiece. They look like borgs and then walking in airport talking to nobody. The hotshot sales people think they are so cool.

  6. 1. Does the rain make you feel blue? Love the rain and being on rain water collection for all house need, appreciate every drop

    2. Do you find that rain ruins or improves your day? It makes driving more difficult through the hills. It can drip around here and traffic is a mess.

    3. Have you ever danced/splashed/played in the rain? Certainly

    4. What do you like to do on rainy days? Write

    5. Do you save for "rainy days"? I wish!

  7. The question I hear besides the god question is how does one balance one's passion against the need to earn cash for bills. That is tougher when one's passion (art) is low to no wage earning and a skill set different from the wage earning skill set. As a former career counselor, this is often an issue.

I would suggest you think about ways to blend to two. For example, could you find a way to market your bookkeeping services to stuggling artists? This would put you in a community of like-minded people and motivate your artistic aspirations. That's only an example. It also sounds as if you are exploring options to cut back on expenses so you can devote more time to art. Can you find additional time to work on art...ie wake up at 4:00 am when your space is quiet. It's hard to find the "me" time.

When I have written here about "The Year of Kira" that began with my 48th birthday, it's because I came to the realization that if I want to follow my passion (a serious push at writing a novel) that I mean to claim the time I need. I also need to put the cash towards the goal. That may mean (in a house that has only a wood burning stove for heat) that central air and heat get put off.........as do the thousands (not to mention the do-it-yourself time) needed for other serious projects. Not meaning to turn this into about me, but passion and dreams require sacrifice and a hard look at priorities.

Sounds as if you looked at expenses.......sometimes time allocations need a serious overhaul too.

I'm reminded of the John Lennon lyric.....life is what happens when you're busy making other plans. It's your life, and in the end, are you going to be satisfied with your choices?

  8. Yes, I believe there in a god. I also believe messages come to us (usually not in the way we ask) and we have to be open to hear the message. Depending on your age, I can suggest two books (more if you like) that deal with the topic of intent of the devine. If you are 40 or younger I would read "The Red Book". See both books below. I think the red book is good for an older group too, it's just that Sara focuses her attention on younger women.

I remember years ago listening to Victor Frankal (sp) at Evolution of Psychotherapy conference. He wrote: "Man's Search for Meaning - From Concentration Camp to Existenialism (also a suggested read). Someone in the group asked him

Dr. Frankel, How do you know there is a god?

He said, It is so simple. People have a thirst and there is water. Nobody would have a thirst if there was no water. (or something very similar). I thought holy shit, it is that easy because I had been struggling with the concept of god at the time. Other people think this begs the question.

The desire to find meaning to life is part of the collective drive of people. To some degree, most of us have that desire. Why would that be such a universal drive if there was nothing behind it?

The Red Book: A Deliciously Unorthodox Approach to Igniting Your Divine Spark (Paperback)

by Sera J. Beak (Author) "So how the hell do you start igniting your divine spark?..." (more)

    Over 40, I would suggest
