Mike Campbell, others behind top music venue in Fullerton
angelic_22 replied to Refugee's topic in Great Wide Open
Very cool I hope this happens! Fullerton's redevelopment has had its ups and downs, but the down town area is really coming along - Of course every battle hasn't been successful; the Fox Fullerton theater still being in sad shape after literally decades of efforts to restore it to its former glory. The article sounds wonderful - and as a guy who lived for many years in Fullerton and still lives only a few miles away, it would make me so proud to see this happen if indeed the venue is oriented according to the artist's needs and wants. This kind of development is so highly political, I hope that the true spirit of music is able to endure and flourish in the face of the typical infighting on the city council. In fact, this could very well be one of the greatest things to happen in Fullerton since Leo Fender called it home. Bravo! Gosh, I know a world class acoustics expert who would probably be thrilled to assist in helping with the acoustical design for the new venue ***cough cough my father cough cough***. He lived in Fullerton for many years himself and I'm guessing that he would be honored to lend a hand. -
I will have a complete day to do photography here in Central Alaska tomorrow. Got some great tips on a perfect spot - plenty of caribou, moose, etc. The bushes are nearly chest high - full of berries. Only problem is, it is populated by a huge number of Grizzly Bears. As I am not 'packing' a side-arm, I am trying to find someone who is and is also photographically inclined. Hmmmm, Those bears will be able to waltz right up to us in those bushes, tap us on the back and say 'Hello, you look tastey'. Wondering if I should chance it if no one in the party is packing..... (You only have to run faster than the slowest member of the party). We got stuck behind a nasty roll over accident yesterday coming back to the facility. Looked like a guy in a truck drove slightly off the road, over corrected and then rolled his truck several times, ending up in a ditch. The emergency crews were picking up the bigger chunks of vehicle and carting the guy off (major injuries). Closest hospital is about 100 miles away..... Hope he makes it

I know what you mean Ryan. I cannot follow the links to the publication to see if this is only a WIndows issue - As I understand it, it is an issue with the torrent client, not the OS - but who the heck knows. Lovely

Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/14/utorrent_update/ " Popular BitTorrent client µTorrent has quietly patched a vulnerability that created a means for hackers to load malware onto the PCs of file-sharers simply by persuading them to open a poisoned Torrent. The Hollywood-dream bug stemmed from a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability and offered far more potential for mischief than either salted (empty or impossible to play) files or media files that attempt to induce users to install fake codecs (often contaminated with malware) once users attempt to play downloaded content. The vulnerability has been confirmed in version 1.7.7 of µTorrent. Earlier versions may also be buggy. News of the bug emerged in a posting by Rhys Kidd to a security mailing list on Monday. He claims that the flaw had been present as a zero-day vulnerability in the software for the last two years. BitTorrent Mainline version six and beyond are also vulnerable because BitTorrent, Inc. makes use of µTorrent source code, he adds. The two software packages make up over 18.8 per cent on the installed P2P client base, creating plenty of scope for shenanigans even though the bug would have been far from straightforward to misuse. "Reliable exploitation is difficult although not impossible," notes Kidd in a detailed advisory on the bug. Fortunately a major new version of µTorrent, released earlier this month, squashes the bug, even if release notes fail to mention this point. Version 1.8 RC7 of the software silently patched the flaw, according to security notification service Secunia, which advises users to update to version 1.8.0 of µTorrent. BitTorrent is also vulnerable but yet to deliver a patch, Secunia reports." Users may want to check to see if an updated client is available, and if so, update ASAP. Relic

Jackson Browne sues McCain campaign!!
angelic_22 replied to normandi's topic in Anything That's Rock N Roll
If this really does make its way to court it will be very interesting and possibly a landmark case. As I understand it, 'Moral Rights' are acknowledged in the EU, but have been a gray area in the USA. If McCain stops using the song, it might be better to drop the lawsuit, or risk the legal ruling going the wrong way and opening the door to wholesale usage of any artist's music in ways like this without regard to the artist's opinions. (Clearly one cannot argue very strongly that this usage was for financial gain, so this is a matter of using an artist's music for a cause that the artist does not support - i.e. a 'moral rights' issue as it would be termed in the EU) Of course I am not a lawyer, and this is simply my own reading of the situation. On the other hand, if the case is heard by a Jury in th epeoples republic of Santa Monica, Jackson may have nothing to worry about -
I am going to suggest that my employer request permission to use 'Wrong thing To Do' in the next annual ethics refresher course! Love the entire album. And I swear 'Good Street' could have been a Don Henley song. It sure sounds like Don to me anyhow. Its even better knowing its all Benmont's

OK it isn't a Moose or a Bear, but I was just working in the office here with the front door open (after taking some Dayquil to fight off this damn cold I caught).... So I am typing away and look up and a Squirrel scampers in.... Looks right at me, then jumps up on the desk and starts nibbling on one of my laptop cables.... I said 'HEY!' and he jumped off the desk, turned to look at me one more time, then ran out the door...... This is a very strange place.... Did I mention Moose? Here is a short clip from Finland.... (Have my camera phone out in case he comes back)

OK so do you carry a placenta onto the plane as carry on, or put it into your luggage? And if they put it in checked bags, what are the odds it gets lost? (I can imagine the lawsuit now......) Of course, if it is carry on, can you imagine the TSA dudes confused looks as they scan the bag? Only wishing I could enjoy the chaos in person, because this is going to be highly amusing!

Worked, Froze ass off, Tried to fill out time card and discovered that it was a 'day of rest'. Um OK, then why was I working? LOL!

Am I the only person who doesn't fantasize about doing the horizontal mambo with Tom? Now if we were talking about Mike...... JUST KIDDING!!!!!! LOL

The Bush administration wants federal agencies to decide for themselves whether highways, dams, mines and other construction projects might harm endangered animals and plants. New regulations, which don't require the approval of Congress, would reduce the mandatory, independent reviews government scientists have been performing for 35 years, according to a draft first obtained by The Associated Press. The new rules were expected to be formally proposed immediately, officials said. They would be subject to a 60-day public comment period before being finalized by the Interior Department, giving the administration enough time to impose them before November's presidential election. ^ ooooooh! I can feel the love in the room! -
Source: http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=080811192637.nkspe7sd&show_article=1 "A giant inflatable dog turd by American artist Paul McCarthy blew away from an exhibition in the garden of a Swiss museum, bringing down a power line and breaking a greenhouse window before it landed again, the museum said Monday. The art work titled "Complex S(expletive..)", is the size of a house. The wind carried it 200 metres (yards) from the Paul Klee Centre in Berne before it fell back to Earth in the grounds of a children's home, said museum director Juri Steiner. The inflatable turd broke the window at the children's home when it blew away on the night of July 31, Steiner said. The art work has a safety system which normally makes it deflate when there is a storm, but this did not work when it blew away. Steiner said McCarthy had not yet been contacted and the museum was not sure if the piece would be put back on display. Yes, the $hit has hit the fan! You just have to wonder some times......

Every now and then I do the right thing I hope you really enjoy the book! I still have not fully digested everything there, and come back to it time after time. It is really well done. The Farm is a wonderful community, and I have greatly appreciated the information, fun and friendships made as a result of participation in this forum. I have to give Ryan (and his evil twin Refugee) thanks for giving us all a home away from home where we can collaborate and share our musical experiences and love for all things TP&HB related. And for the record, this is not a vacation I'm working my arse off. Today makes 7 days on the job in a row (looooooong days too). We even got some snow a few days ago. In August. Happy Happy Joy Joy. I ***might*** get tomorrow off if things go well for the next 8 or so hours. Otherwise its back to the dungeon with Mongo. (Hoping to get some moose, eagle and other wildlife photos. If I get eaten by a bear, I hope to get a nice closeup of the teeth before the grand finale - check the compact flash card found in the bear droppings for that shot!)

^ Pfthththththth! Yes you folks do deserve a chance to see these guys!

I recall a newspaper article years ago from L.A. where a guy driving a 'stiff' got pulled over when driving in the car pool lane - the ticket stuck. Also ticketed (at a different time of course) was a pregnant woman. Evidently Mom + unborn kid still counted as one person. I won't even go into the tickets issued to people driving solo with a 'love doll' in the passenger seat. Although I suspect that those individuals (you know who you are!) didn't fight the ticket. Maybe they felt it would upset their date! I agree Linda, these do remind me of George Carlin. I miss that guy!

I'm not offended by their demanding some action - I demand action myself. What has transpired is despicable. I can't think of a single reason to stop working on this until the city is restored. Yes, I think 'Demanding' is exactly what should be happening. (If a hurricane leveled Washington D.C., do you think the response would be as poor?)

You are more than welcome my friend. I dropped the book off on my way to the airport - Im in Alaska at the moment - I might be able to do some photography sometime over the next 10 or so days if we complete our work and the weather clears up - its been raining pretty much every day....... I know youll love that book. It is really well put together, and the treasure trove of photos in there will make your eyes pop. I had seen many of the photos before, but I hadn't seen them all. Looking foreword to going home in a week or so. It'll be strange to have night again. Even in August the sun never goes down enough for it to get completely dark. Sadly, it means I cant see the Aurora - but I know its up there! Hope we get to meet up at a show sometime too. That would be a ball. Steve

Book and a couple of 2006 tour buttons (fan made) are on the way to you. I shipped them out Monday morning via UPS. (Watch out for the pointy pins on the buttons - don't dig into the shipping bag blindly!) Peace (and enjoy!)

The way Benmont is goin' to town on that album I wouldn't be surprised if he popped keys loose! Great catch.
-
Athena and I will be there along with some others. Not sure when we will be arriving, but it would be great to tag up. Trying to think of a good place to meet up at the venue....... Hmmmmmm
-
There was another band name but the venue felt 'Dickweed' was more PC (if you can believe that!) so the band went with Dickweed. (Just goes to show you how naughty the other name was) That was a fun night.

Athena went to Prague and got to hear a little of the Czech language. Turns out "Dickweed" is pretty much how you say "Thank you" in Czech. So next time you see Matt, just say "Dickweed". He'll understand
