  1. I visited the gallery in Soho when I was in NYC for the TP&HB concerts at MSG and Prudential Center in NJ. My eyes popped out BIG TIME at the photos on display. Simply amazing stuff. If you visit, bring paper towels (to mop up the drool) and lots and lots of money if you want to buy any of the prints! (Oh but it is so tempting! - there was this photo of Roger Waters and a bunch of cats all sitting on a couch and looking out the window..... Let us know if you get in and what the show was like please! It does sound pretty wild - well, it is Dave Stewart!

  3. That shot of Mike with the Doozy, and Tom with his boot up on the monitor .... Wow! Great shots Lizzie! What a night
  4. I think my only 'gripe' about the Mudcrutch gigs is that there were not enough photos captured there. It wasn't a photo shoot of course, but it was pretty historic none the less. For that reason it is wonderful to see these images! I still cant get over it - including Mike playing just one guitar on that entire album (and at the live performances) - Pretty unusual stuff from guys who even after decades in the biz, still seem to have plenty of wonderful tricks up their sleeves! Check out Tim's blog: http://bramletterockphotography.blogspot.com/2008/04/tom-petty-live-ventura-theater-42008.html
  5. Can a post about 'foot licking' be far behind? OK I gotta admit, Tom pulls that bathrobe look off pretty well. Maybe he shoulda been a runway model instead of a musician?
  6. Im doing great - sitting here watching HD net - they are showing a performance of 'Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers' in Chico California. - Blues performed by a bunch of middle aged white guys LOL! Its good music though, and so Im enjoying it and I have to admit the DP did a great job - the video and audio is really great! :) Its titled 'Blues at the Brewery' in case anyone wants to look for it. Other than that, just trying to plan our upcoming trip to Austin City Limits Music Festival - I think I'm going to bring my camera gear this year and try to crash some clubs on 6th street. We enjoyed some great music there last year - including running into Pinetop Perkins outside a club where he was about to perform. This small black guy sitting on a tiny chair outside the club - about 90 years old, but with a gleam in his eyes that testified to the regenerative powers of music. Later he joined the band that was on stage as we walked by and who's music had drawn us in - Stevie Ray Vaughn inspired guitar licks and a Blues sound that couldn't be beat. Pinetop performed 'Born in Mississippi' and another song (which I cannot remember now) on boogie-blues piano, with this phenomenal band backing him up. I am bringing my camera for any moments like that this year!

  7. Its OK..... The Album is far better IMHO The movie ranked 6/10 on Internet Movie Database imdb.com I don't think the music is prominent enough in the movie, and it may be a little frustrating for TP&HB fans, if they are watching for the music But whats not to like about a movie with Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston in it, especially if its got a great soundtrack?
  8. Well that was an interesting phone call.....
  9. :):):):):) :)Happy Birthday! :) :):):):):)
  10. These are great! The colors are wonderful. Especially love that shot of Steve and Benmont at the keyboards! Thanks Lizzie!
  11. Well, the way it happened (at Vinny's) was..... Something on the stage messed up - I don't recall exactly what it was (if I ever knew). Multiple fans called out 'Chinner!!!!!' and he (in his lovable grouchy way) left the pool table (where he had been shooting pool during the show), and headed to the stage where he bent over to investigate the issue. Mike gave him a goose, Chinner jumped up and said something like "Hey thats sexual harassment!' No telling how many people would LIKE to be sexually harassed by Mike I guess Chinner isn't one of them LOL! It was VERY informal at Vinny's that evening, with someone at the bar loudly adding the missing word from the Humdinger lyrics: "Swampfox's girlfriend comes from North Carolina, He says she has a sweet _____________" There is something wonderfully irreverent about performances in bars. God help me I love every naughty lyric, evil laugh, and even the tipsy fans can be a wonderful source of amusement as long as people are mostly under control
  12. Matt reaching to adjust his drum kit between songs at The Blue Cafe in Long Beach. Matt was lucky - when Chinner did something like this on stage at Vinny's, Mike goosed him!
  13. "As for delivering CDs via the Internet... That's like selling typewriter ribbons via the Net. Like delivering dot matrix printer ribbons. Why online would we want anything but files?" Um, because maybe we have ears? "Maybe you've got to buy Beggars Banquet, then again, when was the last time the Stones played "Parachute Woman" in concert?" Who the hell cares! Its a kick ass song! Love early stones!

    Soon

I think 'KNOBS SEASON' pretty much opens at the end of the TP&HB tour..... as for exactly when the first show might be, I'm looking at tea leaves here..... Got nothing..... Kind of afraid to send my camera in for its annual cleaning and adjustment, because soon as I do that the show will be announced! LOL (Its like lighting up a smoke when you are waiting for your food to come to the table - as soon as that sucker is lit, the waiter shows up with your order!)
  15. Great photos! This band does have the coolest fans, and it is wonderful to get to see some of 'em who I didn't get to meet in person! There just are not enough bars, drinks, or time for us all to share all of our music stories and experiences. Thats one of the reasons I always look foreword to the next tour! (Um, the music aint bad either! LOL!)

    Soon

At one point during the Houston show, Tom said that it was their last show of the tour ... and then for just an instant - Mike played the slide guitar portion of 'Humdinger' Athena and I looked at each other and laughed. Not sure how many folks in that crowd caught that.... There were a few I am sure, but not too many!
  17. How Very Cool!!!!! Thank You! (Whoever did this was about 2 rows behind us - I can see the back of my ugly head!)
  18. I think Jason was kind of laughing at me in that shot - I was having a terrible time getting a focus lock with my camera and I suspect that my antics struck Jason's funny-bone I was flailing something awful! It must be odd being on the 'business end' of cameras like Jason and the other Knobs are so much of the time. They are all so photogenic, I'll bet even their driver's license photos look good! Maybe if we ask politely they will let us in on the secret of youth, and looking so damn good all the time, but I'm guessing it has to do with living life immersed in music. It might just be the fountain of youth!
  19. Hoping someone might make a recording of this..... Im not going to be near a computer at the time it streams..... Sounds great!
  20. One last photo before I fly off to Texas.... Guess who! Guess what guitar? Peace
  21. ^ Good question. I previously described it as some kind of Theremin-like device (it doesnt appear to be a Ebow). Mike was making all kinds of sounds with it through the amps and it seemed like he could control the sound by moving the device, or clasping his hands around it, etc. So he was going to town with the magic device and needed two hands to make that sucker sing - Not sure if it was the 'Pirate' part of Mike's personality (giggle) or the Dog part (howl) that resulted in him holding the pick in his teeth... But I could swear, if only for a second, that the way Mike was playing and interacting with the other Knobs reminded me a little of the way a dog sometimes acts.... You know, when the dog has found something new and exciting, and runs up to you with it in his mouth, tail wagging, showing you what he's found. It was tail-wagging wonderful! The Dirty Knobs -Not quite feral, but not entirely domesticated either. ( Keep your eyes on Mike's ears - as long as they dont go back you're going to be just fine! )
  22. Guns + schoolchildren = problems. Im not convinced that the Teachers having the guns instead is going to change that equation. Just seems like you should be able to go to school and not have to worry about fire arms and live ammo and getting your ass shot. Maybe I'm just old fashioned.
  23. Frankly (and security not withstanding), Ill bet reliability would be better if they used commercial telecommunications instead of whatever private network they must be using. The big commercial telecommunications providers really know what they are doing and have very high 'availability' levels - They talk about how many 'Nines' they have - as in "the system will work 99.9999 % of the time". Building in lots of Nines costs a fortune because everything has to be redundant (in addition to being built right in the first place). Think about it - how often did your land-line telephone fail during the last year? If ours failed it might have been for less than a minute. (365*24*60 -1) working minutes in a year / (365*24*60) total possible working minutes in a year *100% = 99.9998 % The phone was 'available' for use 99.9998% of the time. Not bad at all. How many Nines you willing to pay for? Guess it depends on what happens when it fails huh? Is it a flight control system, or just a video game? Maybe some grim accountant even computes the risk / reward ratio in terms of the value of lost lives, etc vs the savings for reducing the robustness of the design, and the big boys decide from there... 'Acceptable losses' and all that. Wonder if we'll ever learn exactly what combination of rare events randomly conspired to knock the FAA off the air. And as strange as it may seem, shit does happen sometimes. Recently plenty of people (myself included) were amazed at the random occurrences of two trans-oceanic fiber optic cables being damaged at about the same time. Might this portend some kind of cloak and dagger conspiracy? Sure seemed fishy. But the probabilities are that given enough time, even something as off the wall as that would, eventually, happen. No black helicopters required. Stay safe, don't leave the house and wear a helmet
