  1. I still can´t see any of those pics. I think the reason is the website "deweil.com" where you must have uploaded them. Maybe they are only visible in America? All of you see them so it has something to do with that... Anyway, would somebody please be so nice and upload them somewhere else, for example "imageshack.us" and send them to me? I´ve seen nothing from the show yet and it drives me nuts!

The server that I have these photos on belongs to my brother in law Michael, and I am unaware of why you may be having issues accessing the photos. Can you PM me the identity of your internet provider and your general location? I can then contact Michael and ask if he has any ideas. Terribly sorry that you are having difficulties - it was not my intention to 'black list' anyone from enjoying these photos.

If the images are to be moved to another host, I would prefer that they are hosted on Ryan's mudcrutch site. Perhaps if Michael cannot get to the bottom of this, and Ryan (our very own webmaster extraordinaire) is willing, we can do that.

  2. On page 5 the first photo is Mike Campbell (but you knew that one!).

Next there are two photos of 'Pipes' (I don't recall his real name but man can that guy sing!) and Marc Ford playing as they sit in.

Next a photo of Jason (with Lance in the background).

Then a shot of Mike Campbell and David Rawlings playing a duet on guitar.

Last photo on page 5 shows Mike Campbell wailing on his Duesenberg, with Marc Ford peeking his head out from backstage to watch :)

(Since I didn't add that info when I made the original posts, and editing the posts afterward is not possible beyond a short time period, I cannot fix my mistake now.)

I hope this helps to identify the artists.

  3. The first two photos from the most recent batch (on page 8) show Keith Allison on guitar as he sits in with The Dirty Knobs. Next we have multiple photos of Jason Sinay, and finally the last photo on page 8 shows David Rawlings on guitar as he sits in (a blurry Jason Sinay in blue can be seen in the background to the right. This last shot gives you an idea how different the lighting was where Jason and David were standing.

  4. There were these 'swirling' spotlights - I had to try to time the photo for the instant the lights swung onto Jason. Otherwise he was completely in the dark :( Then there were the fixed spotlights pointed right at me from behind Mike..... Extreme back lighting.....

I would get a chance to take a shot maybe once every 10 or so seconds, and if Jason was behind a microphone stand, or had his back turned, etc. it was no go.... Matt, Phil, and Lance were totally obstructed and / or in darkness..... :( I knew they were there, and I could sure as hell HEAR them! but getting an actual shot seemed impossible on Monday :(

OK so much for my whining about the lighting.... here are a few more:

  5. Man am I glad we 'crashed' that last night at the Troubadour. Amazingly we got in after buying some folks extra tickets at face - never imagined they would release recordings from that show!

I got in so late to that show that I was at the rear of the hall, but the sound was great there. Can't wait to hear the recording! Athena already has it on order along with the LP.

I also cant believe how inexpensive the LP+CD is. That is totally cool of the guys to keep the price low!

  6. Unless I an remembering incorrectly, McCain was one of the politicians who essentially demanded 'instant takedown' of allegedly infringing material. Kind of a 'Kill 'em all and let God sort 'em out' philisophy, which he discovers now, is not a good idea if bogus takedown notices are filed.

On the other hand, if McCain is arguing that all the takedown notices are bogus, and he is a victim of a vast liberal conspiracy to block all his you tube videos, I think he needs to read up on IP law in the USA. Although some of the cases may be a little murky, there are an ample number in which his campaign in clearly in the wrong both morally and legally. What is so hard about ASK BEFORE TAKING?

I mean, isn't that the polite thing to do?

Once and for all, 'Moral Rights' need to be formally codified in American IP law. In the lawyers rush to write laws to 'protect the IP's financial value and future earning potential' they seem to have forgotten to protect the artist's reputation.

I'd be pissed if I was Jackson Browne or one of the Wilson Sisters. I would feel taken advantage of, and defamed if I didnt support the McCain campaign. Their usage of the songs was wrong and the McCain campaign's continuing insistance that they have done nothing wrong is akin to Palin insisting that she didnt violate any ethical code in Troopergate even after the bipartisan report was released.

  7. Interesting:

"YouTube rejects McCain request for DMCA takedown notice delays"

Video-sharing site YouTube recently rejected the McCain campaign’s request to delay a DMCA takedown request of their videos. YouTube says they can't give special treatment for political campaigns.

The McCain campaign posted videos with brief snippets of news broadcasts embedded in their political messages, but did so without the explicit permission of major media companies. Most videos received takedown notices immediately upon being posted on YouTube.

Here's how it works: When YouTube receives a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) takedown notice from a company, YouTube immediately removes the uploaded video for 10 days until it fully analyzes whether the video is legal or not.

The McCain campaign feels that 10 days of being offline is too much time because there only a few weeks left until the presidential election takes place in the U.S.

However, YouTube is firm in its policies and told the McCain campaign it cannot give them and others special treatment. YouTube Chief Counsel Zahavah Levine sent the following letter to McCain campaign:

While we agree with you that the U.S. presidential election-related content is invaluable and worthy of the highest level of protection, there is a lot of other content on our global site that our users around the world find to be equally important, including, by way of example only, political campaigns from around the globe at all levels of government, human rights movements, and other important voices. We try to be careful not to favor one category of content on our site over others, and to treat all of our users fairly, regardless of whether they are an individual, a large corporation or a candidate for public office.

The real problem here is individuals and entities that abuse the DMCA takedown process. You and our other content uploaders can play a critical role in helping us to address this difficult problem...You can file counter-notifications. You can seek retractions of abusive takedown notices. You can hold abusive claimants publicly accountable for their actions by publicizing their actions...

We look forward to working with Senator (or President) McCain on ways to combat abuse of the
takedown process on YouTube, including by way of example, strengthening the fair use doctrine...

The McCain campaign posted a YouTube video after Barack Obama mentioned “lipstick on a pig.” In the video, they used a brief video clip featuring CBS News anchor Katie Couric to make their point that Obama’s message was sexist. However, the McCain campaign used the CBS clip without getting explicit permission from the network. Immediately after they posted the video ad on YouTube, it was taken down. The video link shows the following message: "The video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by CBS Interactive."

The McCain campaign also has other DMCA problems: They used many popular songs including (Jackson Brown’s song Running On Empty, Myer’s Wayne’s World character, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0IM7Mvg80w, Rocky’s theme song, Foo Fighter's My Hero, Ad featuring Major Garrett's Voice from Fox News and Heart's Barracuda, without getting permission from the artists or the record labels.

In a twist of irony, McCain's own technology policy indicates he will protect creative industries from piracy.
