The winds here South of L.A. just picked up big time - I hope they are not doing the same up in Santa Barbara. That is the last thing they need right now.

Yes I support the right of anyone to peacefully protest anything they want.
(Personally I think banning male / male and female / female marriage is truly silly. Something makes me think that some folks are afraid they'll 'catch the gay')

No but I am SURE that I can find a pair of shoes that need some work

And Ill be sure to check out the art when I am there!

I got mine yesterday and was listening on the bus. I love what they did to the Gene Vincent classic "High School Bop". -- Priceless!!!Great EP!!!!
Isn't that track Jerry Lee's High School Confidential?
Or did Jerry Lee adapt it from Gene Vincent?
But you are right about the performance - in fact I got to mention how much I loved the sound of the streaming version of that track on the mudcrutchmusic site to Benmont last Thursday. I mentioned that his piano was a little lost in the sound there at the Troubadour (I was there that night), and so getting to hear the clear recording from the sound board was just wonderful! What a cover to allow Benmont to stretch out huh? Wow!

I'm having a few 'flashbacks' to the loss of the great FM stations KMET, and KSCA here in Los Angeles. It is a little early to make a final decision, but it sure seems to me that the play list has changed on Deep Tracks, and there sure is a lot more DJ talking than I remember before.
As one who has totally given up on FM radio (with the possible exception of Jim Ladd's free form sets on KLOS in the wee hours) I had found a very happy home on XM. I heard tracks that I probably never heard on FM radio before, and truly enjoyed the tremendous diversity of music and artists there. Just the other day I heard a song that made my brain go 'CLICK' - The melody had been 'borrowed' by Mike Campbell and included in some of his surf Guitar Medleys. I heard the song on the radio, got a HUGE grin and commented, 'That is where Mike got it from!'. If I could have written down the artist's name and song title I would have gone out to purchase it. That is how I used to get introduced to 'new' music - via the radio.
Realizing that changes are sometimes hard to adjust to at first, I will temper my disappointment for now, but it honestly feels like someone reached into my being and ripped out something vital.
We all just knew this 'merger' was not in the listeners best interests! Damn the FCC for allowing it.
If Sirius / XM becomes a satellite-borne clone of the crap on the FM dial, it will be so very sad. I honestly don't know where else to turn for the 'good stuff'.
And yes, losing XMX and the all day re-broadcasts of Tom's show means that I may never again hear Tom's comforting DJ voice coming thru the car radio. It was wonderful having Tom as my co-pilot on the road. Never imagined losing that.
Sirius / XM - please get your poop together, OK? I purchased multi-year subscriptions because I loved the sound of real radio again, but if my subscriptions were to come up for renewal today, I might not re-up after the events of the last couple of days. Thankfully I have a little time before my accounts need to be renewed, and that will allow me to see where all of this is going.

He didn't have to cobble together a show when he decided to turn his shoe repair shop into an art gallery.
All Greg Papazian had to do was reach into the shoe box that for 35 years held a one-of-a-kind photographic record of Los Angeles in its glittery rock 'n' roll heyday.
He was a high school junior when he turned a visit to an Allman Brothers concert at the Sunset Strip's Whisky a Go Go into a gig of his own -- as club photographer for the legendary hub of Los Angeles' rock scene....."
Read the rest online and enjoy the photos! Very cool stuff!

Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/12/batman_city_sues_batman/
"The mayor of Batman, Turkey, is suing Warner Bros. and The Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan for using the Cape Crusader's name without the city's permission.
Variety reports Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of the predominantly Kurdish town located in the Batman province of Turkey on the Batman River, is preparing to file a series of charges against Nolan and Warner Bros. for royalties from the blockbuster film.
"There is only one Batman in the world," Kalkan said. "The American producers used the name of our city without informing us."
He also hopes to pin a number of unsolved murders along with the town's female suicide rate on the psychological impact the film's success had on Batman residence, the publication said. (Why so serious?)
Kalkan claims to have evidence that will prove the city of Batman was founded before the 1939 debut of DC Comic's superhero by the same name.
Why the city is complaining now about its name being used for masked justice may have something to do with The Dark Knight having grossed over $994 million worldwide so far.
Of course, one could also speculate the city could have figured this out much sooner with the assistance of Batman, the world's greatest detective. Alas, therein lies the crux of the problem.
Warner Bros. said it hasn't been served with a lawsuit yet from Kalkan...."
Holy Legal Fees Batman!
What is next? Suing Turkeys for stealing the name of Turkey?
Nothing like a heart warming story like this to get us all into the holiday mood!

Our DirecTV box hiccupped about 30 minutes before the show came on - So I rebooted it and paced back and forth nervously for about 15 minutes while it buzzed and whirred and finally it came back to life.
It was almost as stressful as those internet pre-sales! Just the thing to get you back into the groove of concert season!

Bon anniversaire!!!!!

peecolepsy?

Alas, the councilman was 'nabbed by the fuzz'.
OK is there some strange abnormal psych thing involving peeing on concertgoers? I keep hearing about this happening....
If so is it covered by the Americans with Disabilities Act? (I'm sorry, I have peeslexia!) Will there soon be peeing and non-peeing sections? I need to know so I get tickets in the right part of the arena!

Maybe this is the guy Emmie had a problem with years ago....
"A Jersey City councilman has reportedly been arrested for urinating on a crowd of concertgoers from the balcony of a Washington D.C. nightclub.
The New York Daily News reports in Sunday's editions that two-term Jersey City councilman Steve Lipski has been charged with simple assault.
The newspaper says 44-year-old Lipski was removed from a place called the 9:30 Club on Friday night.
That's after club staffers saw him relieve himself onto the crowd from a second floor balcony during a concert by a Grateful Dead tribute band.
Messages left at Lipski's council office, and a Jersey City listing under his name were not immediately returned."

Months? A Year? I really don't know - it sounded very serious to me and I could easily imagine many Months of recoup and physical therapy but the truth is I have no idea at all.
Hopefully, knowing that he's got a ton of people pulling for him will help speed the process.

(From a CNN article on the pets of the presidents)Link:

The White House gators
Herbert Hoover wanted to put a chicken in every pot, a car in every garage, and ... a gator in the Oval Office? It's true.
Hoover owned a slew of dogs, but those weren't his only pets. His second son, Allan Henry Hoover, owned a pair of gators that were occasionally allowed to wander around the White House grounds.
Sound crazy? Blame John Quincy Adams for setting the precedent. The sixth president also had a pet gator. His was a gift from the Marquis de Lafayette; it lived in a bathroom in the East Room of the White House.
According to some reports, he enjoyed using the gator to scare his guests.
Guess Tom Petty isn't the only one with a gator on the lawn!

Im sure I look like an uber geek in the photo - after Kevin sends me a copy I'll take a look at it and ponder posting it LOL!
I think Ill take a photo of the signed poster and post that later on today if I get motivated. Some of the artists even drew little cartoon instruments next to their signatures

I spent an astonishing portion of the performance sitting there in the shadows amongst the audience completely transfixed, my eyes closed.... drawn into and completely immersed in the music, wishing to soak up every note. It was just that good.
You will find no venue that celebrates music more highly than Largo, and in that kind of environment, the artists shine ever so brightly.
For a few short hours it was paradise on LaCienega. Next to the lingerie shops, strip clubs and roaring traffic sits a little patch of Holy musical ground.
Who would have thought it?

Regarding Glen, it sounds like he was injured pretty badly.
What I heard was that his injuries involve lacerations caused by some kind of glass coffee table incident gone terribly wrong.
Sean was there when it happened and applied first aid and attempted to drive Glen to a hospital ....
(The artists shared a telling of a version of the story on stage last night. It was a 'lighthearted' version - well it was as lighthearted as possible given the circumstances which sound pretty scary.)
So Glen is going to be healing up for a little while it sounds like....
When coffee tables attack!

That was a ball - too tired to write much....
I love the new club's layout but we snickered when we checked out the neighborhood as we waited outside for the doors to open.
Two doors down you have a shop called 'Trashy Lingerie', while across the street you have a strip club, a mattress store, and a small cafe.
I figured that a guy could have a lot of fun in that neighborhood given the abundance of raw materials.
And that might be a great topic for another post..... errrrrr
When they opened the doors we walked in thru some iron gates to an inviting courtyard. There was a table where you could buy some cds and even cookies and hot tea

The courtyard and the club itself is filled with works of art. Some mannequin based artworks were placed in the courtyard, and prints of some exceptional photographs were placed throughout the club. I really tried hard not to drool on the photos.
I did miss the food and the bar (the new club has neither) but I felt comfortable the moment I walked into the place. It has a very nice layout and it draws you in to the alcove area and then into the performance space.
The stage is larger than at the old venue but they managed to fill it with performers tonight. The sound was great and the performance space reminded me a little of a vaudeville theater.
A great cause tonight, and really wonderful music. Ill write more if Athena and I can compare notes and get it right. I REALLY liked the acoustics at the new club. It turned out that the sound guy who normally handles the board couldnt be there due to an emergency, and so another guy stepped in and ran the board - he had never seen the board before so it was his first time LOL! I would have never known if Sean Watkins hadn't told me after the show.
I got to chat a little with Sean and Benmont because they surprised us and auctioned off an event poster signed by all the artists to raise some money for Glen.
Anyhow, to cut to the chase, Athena and I have another poster to frame

I just expected to go out after the gig and pick up the poster in the lobby - but what I didn't expect was to also discover Sean and Benmont relaxing there too, greeting the members of the audience, being cool, and doing whatever it is that artists do after a gig

So we got to chat a little - we passed on our hopes for Glen's speedy recovery and the artists were all so thankful for everyone coming out and supporting the cause.
Kevin had his camera and he snapped a photo of us with Benmont and the poster

And that music..... There is something about Sara Watkins voice that moves my soul. Combine that with the entire band's considerable talents and the result is delightful and even awe inspiring at times.
Even now the melodies are playing in my head and I get a little warm and tingly thinking about it

The new Largo absolutely maintains the intimacy of the old location and improves upon the acoustics. Same no electronics policy as at the last location so if you want to meet the blonde at the other end of the courtyard, you may just have to walk up and ask her what she thought of the show instead of texting her
Think of it as a little Analog oasis in a mean 'ol digital world.I love it.

Hoping Hubby feels better soon.
We will miss you at the gig tonight!
(My first time at the new digs - can't wait to check it out!)

I ran across this story and so, in my continuing effort to keep you informed regarding the stranger stories on the net, I offer the following:
"
Cream drummer may flash ginger nuts in court
Baker prepared to strip in £30k fraud case
Veteran drummer Ginger Baker has declared he is willing to drop his trousers in court to prove he never got jiggy with a woman accused of defrauding him of £30,000, the Telegraph reports.
Baker, 69, now lives in South Africa, where he befriended Lindiwe Noko at the bank where she worked as a clerk. He called in cops when £30k went awol from his account, and Noko subsequently claimed she and the former Cream sticksman were lovers and he gave her the cash as a gift.
Not so, insists Baker, who is now prepared to whip off his strides to prove the point. He explained: "I've a scar that only a woman who had a thing with me would know. It's there and she doesn't know it's there."
The case is due to be heard in January. Watch this space for a ginger nuts update."
Roasted and Salted, or Raw....
You decide!
