Just walked in the door....
What a weekend. What a night at SoHo!
Romeo Delta, The Dirty Knobs, a jacuzzi at our B&B, a beach walk today, dolphins playing in the surf.....
The front of my car looks like it got pelted with red paintballs - I parked under a tree that was dropping red berries in the dark there at the B&B!
Now it looks like my brain exploded on the hood, but considering how great that show was on Friday night, as strange as that sounds it is perfectly reasonable. I had no idea what to expect from Romeo Delta before the show since I had never seen them play live before, but as soon as they started playing their sound just 'clicked' for me. Listened to their CD on the way home and that CD just simply does not capture the phenomenal live sound of this band. Holy Moly I have another band to follow now! These guys rock!!!!
Ill never see guitar tech Dave the same way again! LOL! (True in SO many ways!)

Therapy? Friends? Who do you go to if you need/want to “offload”?
Been to therapy, seemed silly but it actually worked (or so my parole officer tells me
)Also talk things out with my friends sometimes.
Cats are also good to share things with but its so embarrassing when they tell you to stop because your hour has run out and to get the fuck off the couch.
I've even 'offloaded' to perfect strangers - like the time I offloaded those extra water bottles to a homeless guy in front of the Troubadour. Man, he was my best buddy afterward.
I think we both got something out of that - he got a friend and in addition to getting rid of several of the extra water bottles I had, I almost got my ass kicked by everyone else in line who didn't enjoy the guy's verbal rendition of his complete medical history as much as I did!
His camo miniskirt was a trend setter though!

1. Where do you usually celebrate Thanksgiving? Do you host or visit someone else?
It varies - this year we are invading Athena's Dad's place. His wife makes the best food! Hopefully their holy terror of a dog (is that a holy terrier?) wont eat our shoes.
2. How formal or informal is your celebration? Do you dress for dinner?
Pretty informal, however clothes are recommended as they help keep our dangly down parts from falling into the gravy.
3. What time do you eat? Do you go more for a brunch/lunch or a dinnertime celebration?
Its pretty much an all day grazing event, culminated with a yummy dinner.
4. What traditions do you observe?
Probably the most important tradition is the unbuttoning of the trousers to relieve stress at the waistband.
5. What are you doing for the Friday after the holiday this year?
Wandering around the house aimlessly craving turkey sandwiches and moaning things like 'I can't believe I ate all that stuffing' and 'That fucking dog ate my shoes again'.

Take half of the out of work auto workers and aerospace workers, and idle factories, and start a new WPA to design, build and deploy alternative energy devices such as solar panels and wind turbines. Take the other half and redeploy them to manufacture electric / (CNG?) vehicles. Everybody works, we pioneer / perfect new technologies and position our selves as a world leader in alternative energy production, and we get the damn petro monkey off our backs finally.
Think of it as Apollo II, but this time its spaceship earth.

Are there any bootlegs of the Dirty Knobs? I'm wondering if they will tour Montana? Now thats selfish!! hahaAs I recall the Duesenberg guitars Myspace site had a track or two of the Knobs that were streamable. That was a while back but if they are still there youll be in for a treat if you give them a listen
-
Ref!Well, it is her home turf!
Am I selfish for wishing articles like this would come out AFTER the show? Especially when they are in such small clubs?
Yea, I guess that is selfish actually, because everyone should get a chance to hear these guys!
Really!
(Just not on the night that I want to be there too! LOL!)

Jeezus..... Now this:

Bush set to relax rules protecting species
Interior Department rushed to finish new regulation despite objections
Animals and plants in danger of becoming extinct could lose the protection of government experts who make sure that dams, highways and other projects don't pose a threat, under a regulation the Bush administration is set to put in place before President-elect Obama can reverse them. The rules must be published Friday to take effect before Obama is sworn in Jan. 20. Otherwise, he can undo them with the stroke of a pen.
The Interior Department rushed to complete the rules in three months over the objections of lawmakers and environmentalists who argued that they would weaken how a landmark conservation law is applied...."
How fast can we impeach the guy?

We are coming up from the OC but are planning on staying overnight in a B&B on Friday night.....
Not sure if that is any help. Would you have a way back Friday night if we helped you get up there?

EPA plan would ease rules for National Parks
New air-quality rules would make it easier to build coal-fired plants
The Environmental Protection Agency is finalizing new air-quality rules that would make it easier to build coal-fired power plants, oil refineries and other major polluters near national parks and wilderness areas, even though half of the EPA's 10 regional administrators formally dissented from the decision and four others criticized the move in writing...."
The inauguration cannot come fast enough if you ask me!
What's next? A Walmart built on top of Half Dome?

Yes I did - and the exceptionally kind (and Grandmotherly) lady who stabbed me in my arm this year looked at my form, then at me, and said 'You don't look 46!'
I assumed she meant I looked younger! LOL.
Yep, she softened me up with a compliment before drawing blood!
Hope the shots work this year, I hate the flu!

LOL!
Refugee, you have been talking to my former college room mates!
I guess I wasn't the only one accused of creating 'salmonella experiments' back then, and things (at times) did get a little heated.
We got tired of all the arguing and would just look at the other room mates and say 'NOTDAM'
(None of those dishes are mine)
Ah, college life!
(You would be amazed at how virtually any food can become fuzzy given enough time!)
The guys in the apartment across the hall coined another phrase: IBOTU - 'Iced Bong On Table Unattended' Well, it was UC Santa Barbara.
It was like an entirely new language, and on a good weekend you would hear chants of NOTDAM, IBOTU, NOTDAM, IBOTU!

Oh that sucks!
Say, the radio doesn't happen to be for a Ford does it? We used to have a head unit around here that we removed from a 98 mustang (with premium sound) years ago and if that's what you need and we still have it its yours for free. (Slim chance that is what you need, but just say the word if it is)
I had an 87 Toyota pickup years ago and it was broken into regularly - I lost count of how many times I had to replace the stereo. There was something about that truck that attracted thieves like the way poop attracted flies.
The worst part was that instead of removing 4 screws to get the unit out, the thieves would rip the thing out by the roots, leaving a crater in the dash board.
The truly strange thing:
My insurance company would 'depreciate' the value of any CDs that were stolen (like CDs wear out or something) but they would give me replacement value for the stereo itself, so over the years after multiple thefts I ended upgrading from an AM / FM casette unit to a unit with CD player etc.
The last time it happened I was having dinner with Athena and a local restruant, went out to the car after and found my stereo and CDs gone. Went back into the place to call the cops to report it and the manager of the place said "Thats funny, they dont usually steal stereos from cars in the lot during the week." I guess he knew that was not a good place to park your car. Would have appreciated a heads up in advance! In the car were the best CDs I owned - I had just returned from the CES show in Las Vegas and had used those CDs to demo some high end speakers we were trying to sell. Amongst the CDs was Alanis Morisette's Jagged Little Pill which (I learned later) includes Lance Morrison and Matt Laug on some tracks. I didn't know that I would end up meeting those guys years later, but to this day every time I hear that song "You Oughta Know" I think of how pissed I was over that theft!
It was the last time I went to that restruant. the place eventually went out of business - possibly because the patrons were all afraid to park their vehicles there.
Considering how much we love music, it really hurts to have our stereos taken away from us.

I read this article a few days ago - sounds interesting, but that last part made me wonder if this will ever be released.
Hopefully so!
I wonder what other gems are still sitting in various people's vaults.
Art really need a chance to be experienced don't you think?

Thank you for your concern, we are OK and several miles outside the evacuation areas. Had large (foot long) chunks of cinder raining down yesterday and lots of smoke but our home is far enough away from the hills to be safe this time.
I wish everyone could say the same.

Thanks folks - yes some things in life truly suck, but I don't think anyone's life is devoid of tragedy. I only mentioned what happened because it relates to having a firearm in the house. I wasn't seeking pity for what happened when I was a kid and hope that anyone who has (or is considering having) weapons in the home will keep them secure and realize that sometimes weapons end up being used in ways that were never anticipated.
My mom had serious problems with depression and back then the treatment was not as well understood, and there was serious stigma associated with seeking treatment. There still is stigma associated with seeking mental health treatment. Fact is everyone has problems sometimes and realizing that you need some help to work things out is so very important. Dont let the fear of how others may react keep you from getting the aid that will help you and your loved ones.
I was only a kid back then, but what happened changed our family forever.
Not sure if I will ever have a firearm in our home, but once again I completely support the right to responsibly keep and bear arms, however when dealing with issues of life and death, there are somber responsibilities that come attached and those should be carefully considered. Please, if you have kids, secure your weapons.
A family friend (a kid) back when I was a kid ended up shooting himself accidentally. It was a 'freak' accident, and he completely recovered, but it was a very close call.
His neighbor was a Police officer. He came back from a long shift and did not properly secure his service revolver. His children found it and the weapon ended up outside where my friend found it. He thought it was a toy. One thing led to another and he handled it and inadvertently put a bullet right through his hand. Amazingly it missed everything vital and he fully recovered. It became the center of a major cover-up on the part of the police department because they were quite embarrassed over the entire incident. They came to the home where the incident happened and tore the walls apart looking for the slug. They never found it.
We went there later in the day to visit the family and offer our support. While there I had to use the restroom and when I looked into the toilet bowl I saw a bullet there - it had passed through Scott's hand, bounced off a wall, and ended up in the toilet bowl. It became the evidence that proved what happened.
These two incidents turned me off of having weapons in the home, however there are also ample stories of people defending themselves with weapons - so even after what I have seen in my own life I would never advocate banning guns entirely. At least not until the 'bad guys' stop using them too.

My dad owned a .22 rifle when I was a kid - its the weapon I used when I learned to shoot.
My mom took her life with it when I was 12.
I still support the right for people to own guns, but statistically speaking I'm not sure if your family is safer with or without one in the house.
Suicide sucks. Think about those you love before doing anything rash folks. It really f'ed up our family.
Peace

That has got to be highly annoying - and something his brothers and sisters on the force will keep reminding him of for years!
Ouch!
