  1. Ack! You mean I missed a chance to capture Dave's rear end in all its glory? I could have sold those images to him! Blackmail Style! LOL! Damn! (His rear end is one of the few parts that isn't visible in the image contained within the Romeo Delta CD. I'd say my hat is off to the photographer, but , ummmmm......... )
  2. I couldn't make it Refugee We already had tickets to go see the Decemberists, and although I did enjoy the show, I kinda wished I was at the Romeo Delta gig. (Besides, I've always wanted to take photos of a band bracketed by go-go dancers!) Hopefully someone who went can report back and dish up the info about how the gig went. Those boys are pretty busy huh?
  3. I still vividly remember the evening at Largo when Sara called John Paul Jones up to sit in for a couple of songs. I thought "Nah, it couldn't be - there must be some OTHER John Paul Jones!" Then I saw the mandolin and bass he was carrying as he emerged from the darkened audience and thought "Oh WOW!" The excitement proved to be absolutely warranted - the performances were phenomenal, and there was a close (almost familial) comraderie there on stage amongst this 'family' of musicians that heightens the experience, and saturates the performances with a purity that snaps your head around. The thought of this new CD is quite thrilling, and I cannot wait to get this in my hot little hands and pop it into the player. (Among the songs that JPJ played that evening was Goin' to California. My spine tingles just thinking about it this morning.) I cannot say enough about this amazing collaboration. If you possibly can, you must see the Watkins Family Hour at Largo. It is well worth fighting the L.A. traffic. Just be warned - music this good is habit forming!
  4. Source: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/11/25/chinese_democracy/ " China has unsurprisingly taken exception to Guns N' Roses' new album Chinese Democracy, slamming it as a "venomous attack" which "turns its spear point on China". That's according to the BBC, which quotes an article in the Global Times (published by the ruling communist party, natch) which roundly condemns Axl Rose and co. The Beeb notes the title track contains the line "If your great wall rocks, blame yourself", while the cover features the painting "Red Star" by Beijing brushsmith Shi Lifeng - showing "Chinese people as powerless". The powers that be have cracked down on foreign dissent since elfin chanteuse Bjork decided it was a bright idea to bawl "Tibet, Tibet" at a gig in Shanghai back in March. This prompted a July government proclamation that "any foreign entertainers who had attended events threatening national sovereignty would be banned from the country". The ministry of culture further declared that foreign devil artists indulging in the whipping up of "ethnic hatred" during shows would also be shown the door. Politics aside, foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang explained to the BBC there may be other perfectly legitimate reasons for objecting to Chinese Democracy. He said: "According to my knowledge, a lot of people don't like this kind of music because it's too noisy and too loud." " Its 'good' to know that China has time to review new rock and roll music when they aren't running over students with tanks in Tiananmen Square. Sad that Chinese TP&HB and DK fans will never be able to view this site since it uses evil words like 'Democracy' and 'Guns N' Roses'.
  5. Nice to wake up to some great shots Lizzie! Love that one of Dave and the shot of Mike and Jason singing together.... Athena and I were at the Decemberists show last night but I'll try to process some more photos and get them up tonight. You know, the more I listen to the Romeo Delta CD the deeper it is getting its hooks into me I gotta see these guys play some more! Sorry I missed the gig last night - it sounded like it was quite the venue LOL! Its the place with go-go dancers isn't it? Darian is following in his Dad's footsteps! I wonder if any of the dancers there in Venice is named Bubbles? (Or maybe its her daughter? )
  6. Here you go - another example of a 'moral rights' conundrum Does the artist (Barry in this case) have a right to object to this kind of usage of his work? In this case it is being used to 'torture' people, or at the very least punish them. Hopefully he's just laughing this off..... And then again, what if someone got busted blasting Barry's music in the first place? Judge: "I sentence you to endure 1000 replays of 'I sing the songs' Defendant: "Cool!" Judge: "In that case what music do you really really really dislike?" Defendant: "Is that like asking me to go get something so you can beat me with it?" I guess if you have a wide taste in music, you can play your stereo as loud as you want in that town!
  7. Sometimes I wonder if being the son of a HOFer the way Darian is might make things extra difficult - People will quite naturally compare him to Mike, comment on his playing style, etc. (as I have in those photos and my writings in this thread) I guess I wanted to say that while Darian looks like a younger Mike, and shares some elements of his playing style, I would not say that he is a Mike clone - Darian absolutely has his own sound and style (even after only one live listening experience this is clear to me) and so I am very interested in hearing this band perform live again and learning more about these great musicians, and getting to experience their sound and style. Once again, through following various Heartbreakers and their projects, we have been introduced to and 'discovered' yet another great group of musicians and a 'new' band. Its funny (and wonderful) how that happens. So many musical roads - all cross-connected and interwoven. You start out along one path and discover so much more through the course of the journey. Great stuff, and more to come!
  8. I posted a link to a story like this several years ago. This is getting strange, we appear to have a serial pianist on our hands. Can Benmont account for his whereabouts? Here is the older link: http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2006/may/17/arts.artsnews1 " Piano found on Britain's highest mountain The piano was recovered at the weekend by 15 volunteers from the John Muir Trust, the conservation charity which owns part of Ben Nevis. The squad was removing litter and stones called cairns from the summit plateau when they spotted the top of the piano. "Our guys couldn't believe their eyes," said trust director Nigel Hawkins. "At first they thought it was just the wooden casing but then they saw the whole cast iron frame complete with strings. "The only thing that that was missing was the keyboard - and that's another mystery. "Maybe it's hidden somewhere else on the mountain." He added that a biscuit wrapper with a best before date of December 1986 was found under the piano, giving a clue as to when it was taken there, but not why. Volunteer group organiser Sandy Maxwell, of Glasgow, said this was the largest, heaviest and most unusual object they had found on the mountain. "We have a constant battle against litter being left on Britain's highest mountain - but this elevates being a litter lout sky high into a completely different category. We are now trying to track down who took it there..." What kind of cookies (biscuits) does Benmont like? LOL!
  9. Thank the Club for the excellent lighting, and of course thanks to the performers for putting up with the lights being turned up higher than normal. (In fact, I couldn't believe how great the lighting was, since its always been very difficult there before. Both SOhO and Joe's Joint have been remodled somewhat over the last year!)
  10. I sent it to Lizzie, hoping she can distribute it as required since I don't have everyone's email addresses. OK here are two shots - the left is Mike Campbell taken back in 2006 at the Blue Cafe in Long Beach. On the right you have Darian Campbell taken last Friday at SOhO.
  11. A couple more of Dave singing his brains out And you can see Darian in the background in this one too Peace
  12. I'm lovin' it Pettyjunkie! I especially love that last shot - that is one IMPORTANT guitar. Some would consider it a holy relic! If someone came up with a rock and roll trivia game, I could see using that photo and asking who's guitar that was. The wear on the neck is a dead giveaway!
  13. Sorry about the blur, it was so dark in the audience I couldn't get everything in focus at once.... (I felt like a TMZ paparazzi when I took that shot as it is LOL!)
  14. Michael tells me that he is in the midst of upgrading his web farm hardware and some people may intermittently experience broken links until the upgrade is complete. Once upgrades are complete, hosting should be more stable, but things are back up now (knock on wood).
  15. Ill call my brother in law in a few - He and his wife saw a show last night and I didn't want to roust 'em out of bed too early. "Hey Michael, I blew up your web server.... Oh, by the way, good morning! LOL!"
  16. Sorry folks, looks like my brother in laws server is offline at the moment. The pictures should be back shortly. (The Knobs want to blow up their stereo, I'm working on blowing up my brother in law's web server instead!)
  17. From the printed Dirty Knobs Setlist (They wandered off the list, but this gives you a basic idea of the set. Additions / Corrections are appreciated!) Blow Yer Top Never Gonna Own Me Hold On You London Good Times Roll Love Minus Zero Minimum Wage No Answer Working Class Hero / Hide Love Away Prince Of Peace Shake These Blues Corporation Hammer Bulldog (Pusher) Loaded Gun Shrimp Boat Humdinger Guitar Boogie Shuffle Bride Sweet Little 16 I also remember them performing 'Little Deuce Coupe' which was a treat! I think it was Matt hitting the high notes and Lance singing baritone. I'm sure I probably forgot a song or two as well. It was a very special night, and we didn't get out of there until very late - One of the best shows I can ever remember. The sound was phenomenal, SoHo has made some improvements in the club since the last time I was there and the club was looking better than ever. Both bands were selling t-shirts, and we picked up one of each and a Romeo Delta CD. Funny thing is, I scored one of the original DK t-shirts when they unexpectedly found some and brought them to the Cozy's gig to sell. I bought my Dirty Knobs t-shirt from Dave Glowacki, never expecting that I'd be rocking out to his band and buying their t-shirt some day!
  18. Dave on vocals and tambourine when he wasn't playing guitar. (The way he carried himself on stage really reminded me of Eddie Vedder)
  19. Lance Morrison (and Matt Laug obstructed behind the drum kit)
  20. Another shot of Darian I have shots of Mike taken from similar angles and the resemblance is uncanny! Maybe Ill put two shots together if I can find just the right photos. I can hear some of Mike in Darian's playing - or should I say that his technique (which seems very precise) reminds me of Mike. I wonder if Darian got extra nervous when performing since his family was there? Every kid's nightmare - having your parents critique your performance! LOL! Hall of famer parents. Nightmare! Well, what can you say? Romeo Delta nailed it. Big time.
  21. Dave and Tom (Sorry about the Blur, they were moving awfully fast!)
