  1. Happy Birthday Linda!!!!!! :) :) :) :) :)
  2. JJ's show last night was great. I wish we could have gotten tickets to McCabes too! LOL! We all ended up right at the foot of the stage last night and just couldn't be closer... The audience was a little older than the typical DK show, and we joked how people rushed in and tried to find a table to sit at instead of running to the stage So thats how we got to 'the rail'. The show felt to me a little like sitting with a guy and his friends as they jam in their living room - and the uber-relaxed nature wouldn't have seemed right given the historic significance of the event except that this was JJ Cale after all and, well, he's just too cool for school Pieta Brown opened up the show and I really dug their set too. I noticed them peeking from the wings later on while JJ put on his part of the show and thought 'they dont want to miss a second of this either'. JJ played a Danelectro guitar most of the night plugged into a small Fender amp. Simple and straightforward. He was joined by a drummer (who mostly played the rakes), a percussionist on some kind of bongo machine thingie (a couple of times during the night he joked that he was just learning how to play it), a keyboardist on a small electronic keyboard, and a bassist. When you coming back again Pieta and JJ? I'm up for another night like that! Hell yes!
  3. Edit - Just found out that was not Rick Rubin at the gig. Rick has a double it seems - when he was addressed as 'Rick' he laughed and said he gets that a lot but that wasn't him
  4. The color in this photo of Marc caught my eye. Same for this shot of Steve Hodges
  5. Speaking of set lists - Set I arkansas gas card go too soon main drain smilin' diamonds for your tears last time around again corina california ghetto's everywhere shalomar dreams greasy chicken Set II cry moan and wail seven days sometimes by myself?? long gone pay for my mistakes shame on me get me killed freedom fighter (There were a couple more printed on the set list but I cannot read them in the photo I took.) Marc tweaking some settings Marc working the slide Peace
  6. This was a very fun gig - I didn't shoot many photos at all and will go thru them later and see if any are worthy of posting. Rick Rubin was at Cozy's and took in the show. He really seemed to be enjoying himself! (I think I saw him taking down some notes too a couple of times during the performance.) The gig went past 1:30 AM. We were so tired from doing yard work earlier in the day that Athena and I had to try hard to keep each other awake on the drive home. Have not been that tired in a very long time - mental note: don;t wear yourself out doing yard work before a gig. It makes it really hard to lift a heavy camera! The cover of 7 Days was really great, and I also especially loved 'Don't Get Me Killed' although the entire show was really great. Marc was very animated and appeared to be having a lot of fun himself Peace
  7. ^ LOL! My side hurts now from laughing!
  8. ^ Update: I think the TV now has a home Wow - that worked great Linda! And the recipient of the TV is an actual rock and roller so this is consistent with the theme of the 'Anything that's Rock and Roll' forum! Too cool!
  9. Free to a good home: Mitsubishi 55" 'Diamond' projection HD TV. (1080i) Includes all manuals, the original remote and an integrated over the air digital tuner (analog too). Works perfectly, replaced with a LCD TV and is now collecting dust. Would like to see this TV get used by someone - especially for showing ZZ's excellent DVDs A zero cost way to start getting HD TV over the air if your area is covered. All you need is a good antenna and a place to plug the TV in. Due to the item's size shipping isn't really an option so you'll have to come to Southern California (Orange County) to pick up. Its got rollers and is pretty light - just bulky. PM me if interested. We will help you load it up.
  10. Here is that photo of Matt with the 'crown' King Bulldog!
  11. I think you mean this one? That mural is pretty wild. I think this was taken during 'Humdinger' - that might be a clear glass slide on one of Mike's fingers. He's moving so fast its hard to make it out.
  12. Jason was in rare form I have some shots of Matt I need to process - he was behind the drum kit at Angel's and the mural on the wall behind him showed Johnny Cash. The way things lined up Johnny's collar and shirt ended up looking like a crown on Matt's head. Matt's face is mostly obstructed in the photos and I have not done anything with them for that reason but maybe its worth a second look. Still cant get over how beautiful Mike's Rick guitar is. What is also amazing is how that guitar took everything Mike threw at it and kept on going. I mean, Mike was just wailing on that thing. Especially during 'Feed the Snake'. Jason's lead in that song is really beautiful. A counterpoise to Mike's lead at the beginning of the song that establishes the melody - Jason's lead contrasts and amplifies the theme, until the end when Mike and Jason's parts converge together. I think I first heard the song at Cozy's. 'They are just setting levels' someone said. LOL! They can set levels that way any time they want The Dirty Knob's level setting is better than most band's main act!
  13. Jimi and Mike! Oh if only...... So many great photos everybody! That guitar of Mike's is so gorgeous, it just cries out 'take my picture!' don't you think? And Mike makes it sing so...
  14. Jason Sinay performing with the Knobs at the Mill Creek Cattle Company 3/20/09
  15. I took photos of the printed set lists both nights - here is the list (like the pirate code, it is a general guideline rather than a strict list of what they played. Saturday's list was the same with a few cross outs / circles and general gibberish scribbled on it ) Guitar Boogie Shuffle Blow up my Stereo Shake These Blues Loaded Gun Humdinger Balls Off / Deal Working Class Hero / Hide Love Away Soothe Me Love Minus (or) Ripple So Tired She Said Periscope Work Song Bulldog Minimum Wage Feed The Snake Bride (Alternates) Misfit Kid Rat City Roadrunner Sweet 16 / Lupe Lu / Anyway Mama Told Me Bye Bye London Knock You Off Sunburst
  16. Ryan Dean behind the kit at Angel's Darian Campbell Dave and Adam in the background
  17. Mike after the set Saturday night...
  18. Matt at Angel's Roadhouse - Love that mural behind him. I had to wait till just after Matt hit the cymbal so I could see his face
  19. Lance Morrison - nice t-shirt
