OOOh! You are going to love Yosemite!
And if you are in the mood for a 1.5 mile hike (moderate), check out May Lake - use the trail head that is off of the Old Tioga Pass Road. It is in the high country, most of the way to Toloumne Meadows from the Valley. Bring a poncho for those afternoon thunderstorms

Sending our best wishes for your brother's full and speedy recovery.

The owner of a southern Wisconsin house might not be in love with the Oscar Mayer wiener right now.The Oscar Mayer Wienermobile crashed into a Mount Pleasant house around noon Friday.Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki said the 22-year-old female driver was turning the giant hot dog on wheels around in a driveway and thought she was reversing but instead went forward and crashed into the deck and garage. No one was home and no one was injured.Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sydney Lindner apologized for any inconvenience to the home owner. Lindner said the company will work with insurance companies to fix the damage to the house and vehicle.
I cant wait for the late night jokes to begin about this incident.

[edit: does that thing have an airbag?

Oh my gosh, its a dead hooker!
(just kidding)
Ever since I chased away the monster that lived under my bed there is nothing under there. The monster now lives in the closet.

I've thought about this before, and it's an interesting idea. However, the big problem with it would be charting all the notes on the screen where they would be readable. Perhaps some kind of scrolling guitar tab would work...Or sheet music.

Im guessing the 'trick' would be to 'sneak' up to that level a little at a time - that way the game players wouldnt even know they were being 'corrupted' by learning music LOL!
Anyhow, just thinking back and realizing that if I was learning a little about music every time I plunked a quarter in to a video game at an arcade as a kid, I might have learned quite a lot about it. (Although when the space invaders do come I will be able to hold my own)
-
I've never played the game but I have seen the guitars they use...
I immediately wondered why they dont extend the game (maybe an advanced version) where all the string / fret combinations have individual buttons....
Players could graduate to the more realistic version as they work their way up and end up actually learning the real notes / chords to the songs.
Then they could try the real thing....
Stealth guitar lessons.
If they are not already working on that, they should be.

Athena and I first heard Back Door Slam at Austin City Limits (last year I think).
I had no idea Benmont was involved with that band. Or Peter Frampton for that matter.
I will add that Athena immediately liked the band - so when she reads this thread I will probably get a heaping helping of 'I told you they were great!' from her when I get home

Maybe I can head this off here and now.
Yes Dear, you were right!!!!!!!!

Happy birthday Roger! Nothing but the best!

Some frighteningly smart raccoons have learned to open our garbage can even though we have a bungee cord on it. :eek:Consider yourself lucky they are staying outdoors and not inviting themselves into your house.
Let me set the scene (this is all true)
Athena and I had just spent a week camping in the high sierra - we returned home and a few days later Athena flew off to Kansas to visit family - I couldnt go due to work issues.....
So the first night she was gone I did what any 'bachelor' would do - I fell asleep on the couch watching late night TV.
I awoke around 2AM to discover a raccoon hanging from its hind legs from our patio cover as it plucked grapes from a grape vine we had planted.
Sure that I was having a dream I dismissed what I had seen and crawled into bed.
A few nights later I was in the living room and heard one of our cats (or so I thought) munching its food quite loudly in the kitchen.
I peered around the corner into the darkened kitchen and came face to face with a rather large raccoon. The Raccoon saw me and stood up on its hind legs and (get this) grinned a big toothy grin at me.
Then it slowly sauntered out through the cat door - scraping against the sides of the BIG cat door (really a dog door) on its way out.
For several years after that we would have semi-frequent raccoon visitors. We could tell they had been there because of the missing cat food and the mess.
When I was engaged in a movie premiere in NYC I flew out for a 2 or 3 week stay. I had Athena join me for the last week (and the premiere). We had a great time.
We flew home and were horrified to find bloody raccoon footprints all through the carpet in our house (and several terrified cats who, we assume, were convinced that the raccoons were new pets. The cats were not amused.
We ended up replacing the carpet.
I never saw the raccoons again - hopefully they moved on to a friendlier neighborhood, but I worried that the truth might not be so good.
So I am reluctant to install a cat door in our current house owing to the raccoons, stray cats, opossums, and other various members of the animal kingdom that used it to visit from time to time. We even had a feral cat that came in and attacked me (and scratched Athena) necessitating a quick call to animal control when I trapped the feral cat in our garage. (That was quite scary, but the cat wasn't rabid - just horribly neglected.)
On another note, the call to animal control dispatched two BEAUTIFUL blonde female animal control officers who looked like they would be perfectly within their element on Baywatch. Had I known that calling animal control was the way to get two gorgeous blondes to visit my house I would have made more calls!
However, when I asked the officers if they would take Athena away if she started foaming at the mouth or meowing menacingly they gave me a big dose of stink eye LOL!
I guess you have to understand my sick humor to find it funny.
I wish I knew who abandoned that cat because I would like to kick their ass. The animal ended up being destroyed, which broke our hearts.
Well, at least we never had a buffalo come thru the cat door!

LOL! Darian is ... what..... 21 now?

Those crazy whippersnappers....... crazy wonderful and talented whippersnappers LOL!
Thanks for giving the older generation some hope for the future of music. It may be your birthday, but I think we got all the presents

I would magically transport myself to the banks of May Lake - its a high altitude lake in Yosemite, about 1.5 miles hike up from a segment of old tioga pass road.
Considering its so close to the road, and there is a high sierra camp there (during the summer months), it is amazingly devoid of people.
And the stars at night....... Man it doesnt get better than that.

^ happy Belated Birthday!
Glad to hear you had a great one!

Couple Marries 60 Years After Engagement
PLACENTIA, Calif. -- They were first engaged nearly 60 years ago, and now Bob and Fontelle Harrod are finally married.
Bob first proposed to his love in 1950, when he was 24 and she was 17. But, shortly after their engagement, Bob was called to serve with the Marines in the Korean War.
Fontelle, now 75, says her letters always came back returned, and she never received Bob's letters. After growing apart, both eventually married other people.
Fontelle says she knew Bob had married when he returned home to Missouri so she never tried to contact him, fearing she would "cause trouble."
She moved on and had two children -- a son and a daughter.
Three years ago, she became a widow. Bob, now 82, also lost his first wife.
Despite their past relationships, Fontelle always kept her engagement ring and often told her daughter stories about her first love.
Her daughter recently decided to track Bob down, and was successful.
As a Mother's Day present, Fontelle's children bought her a plane ticket to Placentia, where Bob now lives. She arrived on June 23.
The spark felt six decades ago was still there.
"She was considerably older, but still beautiful when she talked. I knew it -- I knew it was her. I could just tell by her voice," Bob said, describing their reunion. "I just waned to hold her forever," he added.
When Bob asked what it would take to keep her, Fontelle replied, "Marriage!" So, Bob says, he asked her to marry her on the spot.
The couple wed on June 29.
Fontelle is now packing her belongings in preparation for the move from Missouri to California.
Bob says his first marriage was great but Fontelle was always the one that got away.
He says considers himself lucky to have gotten a second chance with his one true love.

127dBA is a shockingly high reading.
Jack needs to get some hearing protection to avoid further damage. That is ear abuse.
Get with the program Jack - or you'll end up like Beethoven - deaf as a doorknob.

Oh man I so wanted to be at that show! Thank you so much for the photos!

... I'd like to thank Kim Jong Il and the host servers for increasing my work productivity about 200% over the last couple days. :077:...I told someone that N Korea going after banking and govt sites is one thing, but when they go after our rock and roll sites its time to nuke 'em.

Hopefully NOBODY was fooled into clicking on the link that was served up by the site during the time period that the site was compromised.
During that time the site said something like 'This site requires a plugin: click here to download'
Sharp eyed users should have noticed that:
1. This file was an executable (not something you download if you are smart)
2. Ryan would never do something like that with his site (not without telling us first)
3. There was something very fishy about the entire thing (I thought 'hackers' the instant I first saw it)
Anyone who downloaded and installed the plugin had better watch out. Bad stuff man.
Also, preliminary evidence suggests that few virus scanners (including Norton Antivirus) were successful in detecting the file as malware. There were a few products that did detect the malware however and hopefully we can put up a list of these products and / or step by step disinfection instructions.
So did anyone click that link?
