Brothers injured by tiger will not face charges, investigator says http://www.cnn.com/2008/US/01/07/tiger.attack/ SAN FRANCISCO, California (CNN) -- Two brothers injured in a Christmas Day tiger attack at the San Francisco Zoo will not face charges, the lead investigator in the case told CNN Monday. San Francisco Police Inspector Valerie Matthews said the investigation had found no evidence that Paul and Kulbir Dhaliwal taunted a 300-pound tiger that apparently scaled a 12½ foot wall surrounding its enclosure. The tiger attacked and killed 17-year-old Carlos Sousa and injured the Dhaliwals. Matthews also said the Dhaliwals were cooperative with investigators. Police shot and killed the 4-year-old Siberian tiger, Tatiana. On January 2, zoo spokesman Sam Singer said police were examining a large rock, a tree branch and other items found near the tiger's enclosure to determine whether the animal had been taunted. "Something prompted our tiger to leap over the exhibit and all I can do is ensure that's never going to happen again at the San Francisco Zoo," said the facility's director Manuel Mollinedo said last week. "Corrections" are under way at the habitat as the zoo prepares to reopen Thursday, he said. A series of temporary security measures will be in place, with more permanent improvements to follow. Those will include raising the wall around the tiger habitat to 19 feet, adding security staff and installing a speaker system to alert visitors in the event of another emergency, Mollinedo said.

Everybody, thanks for your comments. I wish I could say that "it wasn't really THAT bad," but it was, lol. When we came to a dead stop at Blue Canyon, there were all kinds of visions of the Donner Party in my head. :eek: (For non-Californians, Blue Canyon is the part of Highway 80 that all the newscasters go to when they want to show just how bad a storm really is...) At least the Mr. grew up in New York, so driving in that weather didn't faze him at all.

All hell broke loose at home on Friday. Parts of the valley got 10" of rain, but we probably didn't get quite that much. We weren't here, but my daughter was. We were able to get out of Tahoe yesterday before Highway 80 closed again, but it was QUITE a drive through the Sierras.

Cell phone is almost always on. I check email most days, but not while I'm on vacation.
