Hi Shelter
I was googling myself and my book 'Conversations With My Dead Rock Star Best Friend' and came across your post. Such valuable information in it, so happy to find it. I would be so grateful if you could help me figure out where I went wrong, the setup for example. I'm not sure what you mean. And, yeah, the cover is pretty generic.
I've been sitting on this book for almost 13 years, for various reasons, but mostly because there is so little out there about Howie the human, and what is out there is a lot of people laying blame for how Howie left us. It kinda makes me crazy. I was privileged enough to hear only Howie's point of view on all the situations he found himself in, so I thought I'd inject his voice into the narrative. Most of the conversations happened while he was alive, they're just being remembered in post death conversations

Back to the cover, do you think a photo of him would have been a better way to go? I have pictures that I took, which I suppose means I own them, I just wasn't sure about 'use of image and likeness' restraints and didn't feel like getting into any of that, if I didn't push 'publish' when I did, it would have remained on an external hard-drive never to see the light of day.
I'd really appreciate your feedback, Please and thank you
Best

I do not believe for one minute that English is your second language, and if it is.....I'd better brush up on my French!
Thank you so much for your feedback. I appreciate it more than you know. I will say a couple of things; there is probably more me in there than anyone other than family and friends would be interested in, sorry all. Second; the fact that his name is not mentioned in the title is because I came up with that title day one, and that was just after his funeral. I was furious at him for dying and wasn't inclined to give him too much...hmmm, can't think of the word, but let's just say, the first couple of titles I came up with would have been covered by a 'parental advisory' sticker. I just never changed it.
The conversation aspect, well, that's a little hard to describe. Most of them are conversations that occurred when he was alive, they are told through memories, or 'flashbacks' if you will. The others, well, I swear they happened after he died. I know they are subject to my interpretation, and it's where one must suspend disbelief. In all my years of knowing him, after all the hours of conversations, I knew him extremely well, I do have insight as to what he would have said, to me anyways. And I sensed he was present, helping me process my grief - but the bottom line is, the things that would be of interest to people who want to know more about Howie and what went on during the 'publicly chronicled times' are all things that he said at the time.
I want to ask you a huge favour....I would love to send you the book, in whatever format you prefer, and get your feedback after you've read it. The only feedback I've received so far has been from family and friends, and I know one friend in particular is thinking about painting her house, so.....motives are suspect. If you'd agree, could you email me at info@deadrockstarbestfriend.com ? Let me know what format you'd like and an email address to send it to? I would be over the moon!!!
Thank you so much - oh, and ..... I'm changing the cover. I did some googling and it seems everybody judges a book by it's cover. So thank you for that!!
Best,
Susan
