Marion reacted to nurktwin in Question of the day 8/16/16
I'm sure a lot of you have looked up your family tree online, but have you ever looked up the addresses of your grandparents or great grandparents on Google Maps to see what those houses look like today? A lot of those houses are gone today, but you can still see and zoom in to the land and see what it looks like today. Luckily, both my grandparents houses are still there today and I can see pictures of them. They don't look like they did when I was a little kid, but they are there. I'm going to an Italian Fest this Saturday or Sunday in my mom's neighborhood and going to my moms childhood home and knock on the door and see if I can see the house I used to go to on Sundays. I remember what it used to look like, but it's so different now after 40-50 years, I can't believe the pix I'm seeing today. The house was built in 1854, about 30 years before my grandfather was born!!!!! I'm excited and can't wait to go and eat all that Italian food and try the homemade wines!!! Check out your old addy's, you never know what you may find. Good luck my friends.

Marion reacted to dollardime in Covers of Tom Petty songs
Marty Stuart does such a friggin' awesome version of RDAD that he's the exception to the rule of just posting one version...this is sublime stuff again and if anything the end solo is even more like what Mike would do than the first awesome version posted already in this thread...can't get enough of this!

Marion reacted to helenreddymades in 1971 and 1972 Mudcrutch newspaper ads
I found two ads for Mudcrutch gigs from page 18 of the Naples Daily News Fri 22 Sept. 1972 & page 18 Williamsport Sun Gazette (PA) Fri. 23 Apr. 1971. Anybody know any more about these tours?

Marion reacted to Shelter in This Day In TP History
^ Oh, somehow that post doubled...?
Anywayzzz.. August 11 and a few years ago Calgary had some nice treats. Time for a twofer.. Too bad the first one is cut, cause it really is a rare treat and seemingly a fantastic version, with some nice subtle phrasing..

New "game", in old fashion: Anything memorable and TP related happened on a specific date? Then please inform us, write a post, strike a pose, or just steal it from Youtube....
For example. This. As for today.. July 31... in 2010, this was good enough... or actually better!!

Tom Petty: “I have a lot of music in me yet”
Tom Pinnock
August 12, 2016
Tom Petty discusses his groups Mudcrutch and the Heartbreakers in the new issue of Uncut, out now.
The singer and guitarist, who is currently promoting the second album with his reunited early band, Mudcrutch 2, explains in the piece that he’s got used to hard work over his years in the music business.
“I’ve come to realise that I’m always pushing the rock up the hill,” he says. “Because we don’t take the easy way. But that’s who we are and that’s the way we do it and it’s always worked out fine. And I’m going to keep doing it.
“We’ve had a lot of fun,” Petty says, discussing the current Mudcrutch tour. “I wouldn’t say we were pursuing a career. We’re just enjoying playing music, and it’s convenient to have an audience. I don’t know about everybody else, but I have a lot of music in me yet. I have a lot in my head and I want to get it out. It keeps me young.”
Unlike its predecessor – a product of speed and instinct – Mudcrutch’s second album turned out to be a more involved affair. “The first album has its own vibe, but it’s hard to do that more than once,” admits Petty. “10-day albums don’t happen very often. The second one took months. Not steady work, but still…”

Marion reacted to dollardime in Stans last and Steve's first TV show performance with The Heartbreakers (probably)
And (probably...open to correction) Steve's first live TV show performance with The Heartbreakers, 21st November 1994....You Wreck Me..
I loved Steve's free wheelin early drumming style personality with the Heartbreakers from around 94 -99....was more 'free' in style in those early years I think...he still has that in him but he plays the way Tom wants him to play in terms of not too much flash being the order of the day which has become more pronounced as time has gone on.

Marion reacted to dollardime in Stans last and Steve's first TV show performance with The Heartbreakers (probably)
Ok, so I'm going out on a bit of a limb here and joining the dots and reckon that this is Stans last ''TV show'' performance with The Heartbreakers....September 9th 2014 going by this YouTube video.....The Bridge School Benefit which was Stan's last live show performance with the band was the following month, October 1994.

Marion reacted to Shelter in Covers of Tom Petty songs
Much pitch in here...
As for Corey Taylor, I'm really impressed! Didn't know much about him up to this point and what I did know led me to believe he'd not have this in him. Really, really good rendition and by taking on this specific song, he does not just prove himself to a really great singer, but also he manage something most others fail to do, to give this song justice without the spooky keyboard riff of the original. Most of all, he shows how the vocal delivery is everything when doing a cover. The words has to be believable, the illusion intact when I hear a song... and most of the time, people doing other people's songs in general (and TP songs in particular) something in that does not compute. Corey pulls it off with great charm, kudos!
As for Marty.. Well, hell those boys are cool! Just looking at their feet will show you they are serious, right! That mandolin playing is about the best and most inspired and intense I've ever heard, at least in a TP song.. (sorry, Mike.. I know you are the man and I know you can do it all, but perhaps you are just too cool to hillbilly yourself out of your wits like this, the way necessary for this specific way of corky madness..). And my God, how it swings in that solo part of the song.. By far the best minute or so I've ever heard of this song. I am serious! Thanks for posting!!

^ Great find! Got me thinking I would love if Mike did RDAD with The Heartbreakers on the mandolin...not an acoustic version...the full force version with the band with Mike doing those solos on the mandolin in front of 30,000 people....what a treat and a head trip that would be!

This is one of my favorites. Marty burns up that mandolin on Running Down a Dream!
