  1. i think that if they perform this song in concert, mike will take it over the top like he does in the dirty knobs. when you record a song like this, you can get that sound, you can get that feeling, but you CAN"T go too far on the actual recording, in this case (i want you, she's so heavy) by the beatles. then you are open to copyright infringements and other lawsuits. but in concert, mike can carry it out with even more beatle parts and build it up to a cresendo and just stop, as the beatles did! this will be great in concert!!!!

Didn't I read they're going to release some live tracks at the end of the tour...

  2. China's treatment of Tibetans is nothing to be proud of, so as far as I'm concerned, their objections aren't for valid reasons.

You'd probably be surprised by how many Chinese citizens feel the same way. But we all know what the Chinese government does when people protest against it. Maybe I should take this to the Time magazine site, but I think many Chinese citizens put up with their government's actions and policies because the current government was born out of revolution. China is a country that has been occupied by many foreign countries and it has had many civil wars. In the past it has been suspicious of foreigners (us) because it was exploited by Europe and Japan. The changes and openness of China in last 30 years have been amazing. But it's not much time compared to 5,000 years of history. It's really a fascinating country; I hope they work out some kind of acceptance of Tibet. I think a lot of Chinese are still drawn to Buddhism. It's their religion. But China sees their separation from China as a threat. This dates back to it long struggle to keep their country together. It has been broken up and separated many times through its thousands of years of history. In the same sense our country was founded by people who wanted freedom of religion. It's part of our history. Sorry for going on and on.

  3. 1. What did you eat for dinner Thursday night?

    Mexican food.

    2. When you are mad/upset, are you more likely to yell or give the silent treatment?

Neither. I don't give silent treatments. It seems manipulative to me. Sometimes I'll say let's give us some space and cool off. If I yell, it's because I've reached my limit.

    3. Who did you last grieve? My parents.

    4. What feels good today? Not me. I'm still fighting a cold.

    5. Friday fill in: Thank you in advance for giving me my requested vacation days this summer. (I hope I get them.)

  4. Yes, of course. Wouldn't everyone in a country that believes in freedom of religion approve? I think the question is "does anyone know the issue behind why China objects?" I'd be curious to know that. One thing to keep in mind about China is that it doesn't have a democracy or self-representation. It changes the way all Chinese citizens are able to respond to any policy of the government.

  5. I'm so sorry for not posting this sooner. I've been really busy.

This was my first David Rawlings Machine show and new experience for me. The last time I saw him was when he played with the Dirty Knobs, and he sang Dylan songs. This show was at the Fillmore in San Francisco, the cradle of psychedelic rock, which is reflected in the posters all over the walls. The place was packed. Everyone loved the music which was mix of classic country, folk and ballads. We heard amazing guitar work, banjos, fiddling and beautiful vocals. I love hearing Benmont play. I’m always listening for him..

    Dave Rawlings Machine set list:

    Dark As A Dungeon

    Monkey and the Engineer

Hot Corn (Is this a square dance song? I remember it.)

I Hear Them All / This Land Is Your Land (everyone sang; who doesn‘t know the words to this song?)

    Ruby (haunting and beautiful)

Big Rock Candy Mountain (there were so many people stomping to the tune that floor shook. Too cool.)

Throw Me a Rope -- on the Gillian Welch album (absolutely beautiful)

Sweet Tooth -- fun song -- I think there's a clip on YouTube.

    CC Rider -- beautiful harmonics

    It's Too Easy

    ??

Peggy-O (It was hard not to think about the Grateful Dead underneath those purple chandeliers at the Fillmore)

    No One Knows My Name

Look At Miss Ohio -- this was very popular with the crowd

Method Acting / Cortez the Killer (Beautifully sung and played by David R.)

    Red Clay Halo

Queen Jane Approximately (After hearing him at the Knobs show, I was hoping I’d hear Bob Dylan that night.) Nice piano work in this song…

To Be Young (Is To Be Sad, Is To Be High) Bryan Adams song that David Rawlings co-wrote

There were more songs. I had to leave early because of work the next day….
