    I don't have one of my own. I tend to take on other people's.

    I like contrast, but my poor eyes like brightly lit rooms for reading.

    It's easier to be me than other people. My life is more complicated than it should be, but I suppose there are worse things.

    Yes, they hired a doctor who spoke about communicable disease and why we don't need any rest regardless of whether or not we're contagious. Just hurry up and get on antibiotics (which I'm immnue to) and get back to work. My trainer at the Red Cross said we are still contagious for the first 24 hours of a fever, but I find different info all the time, so go figure.

    You just made me, and any medical professional, cringe. That doctor is either very wrong or he has some serious ethics issues. Yikes. Antibiotics will not cure a virus. Over-prescribing antibiotics will create resistances which can be detrimental to a person's ability to recover from other infections.

    . I guess they hired a quack so they can look good??????

    Thanks for posting this, Sharon. This is the first time I've seen the specifics of the health care plan.

    They have a lot of good elements. Preventive care will save states, companies and individuals a lot of money in health care costs.

    Looks like they're integrating some controls for potential medical care/cost abuses. And they are creating insurance exchanges. Sounds interesting.

    There's a lot there to prevent bankruptcy by illness.

    I'll look at this again after work.

    Thanks, but I have seen very little evidence that the lawmakers here in California understand that correlation. In fact, the District gave a lecture on how we're supposedly not contagious anymore after a fever sets in, so there's no reason to ever miss work. Fortunately, my agency does not share that belief, but that's probably because they don't pay for any sick time.

    No way. They said that? Did anyone ask them to support that claim?

    Most of the people I know who are opposed to the new health care bill say they're against it because they believe it's a step towards communism.

    I don't think the system is perfect right now, but I'm sure it will improve over time and certainly won't make America communist.

    If people are saying that, they don't know what communism is. As Emmie said, Canada has national health care; they're not communist....lol

    I hope they are not saying it to scare people. If that's the case, they're spreading misinformation. I think they mean socialism.

    People don't want health care because no one has really explained what's going on.

    A lot of people have the perception that they are not paying for the health care of others, and people who have coverage don't want to pay more in taxes for health care. That's a big explanation that I've heard. They're wrong because everyone is already paying for the health care of the uninsured. When people can't pay their bills, health professionals, hospitals, facilities, etc. raise the cost of their services for the people who can pay, the insured. The cost of health care keeps going up because more and more people can't afford health insurance, and vice versa.

    Health care debt is a leading cause of bankruptcy in our country. I was talking about this with someone against the bill who insisted that people can't get away with bankruptcy because the laws changed. Jeezzz....If you have $100,000 in health care debt, you can't pay it no matter what the law says. You can’t get blood from a turnip. That's a big loss to the creditors -- banks, hospitals, credit card companies, auto loans, etc. In the same vein, when you have a health problem, you won't care what bills you run up if your life depends on it. People are going to go to their hospital ER rooms if they are sick.

    There obviously needs to be lower health care costs in our country. I don't know how the new bill is going to provide it for the people with minimal insurance. I worked for a Federally Qualified Health Care Center that provided health care to the "underinsured". They probably should expand on that system to provide for people who can't afford the higher priced doctors and medical care.

    I'm amazed that health care reform made its way through our political process. The problem with waiting for a better solution is that there won't ever be enough votes in congress for what people think is the best solution. I'm glad something passed. At least they can expand on it and make changes.
