  1. All I know is I received two pints of blood a few years ago and after that I knew why it was called the gift of life. I was so sick and I didn't even know how sick I was until I had this transfusion (which btw, I fought at every turn). Afterwards I felt like a whole new person. I think this article is talking about critically ill patients that receive blood though. It's gotten to the point now that you're starting to question every little thing.

That's interesting. I'm sure you had blood draws too, right? That's what the lab techs used to say when they'd run before and after blood counts. Everything improves. Blood from someone else changes you. You're a different person, usually a healthier one.

Yeah...I would think that critical care people would be more sensitive to any weakness in body chemistry. Now that they know about it maybe they can compensate for it with meds, etc.

  3. This is so sad.. That's one scary-ass bug.

Here you go Amylou http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meningitis Yeah...I've been vaccinated for hep b, and I didn't develop the antibodies. I had to be re-vaccinated. Everybody is different. I can see how some people may still be susceptible after vaccination.

My coworker was telling me her son had it so she took him to our local hospital's ER; one of the Dr.s said that it was flu... She knew he was wrong. She could look in her son’s eyes and he wasn't there. It was different. Luckily another doctor recognized it and the kid was treated and recovered.

  4. LOL @ Sharon

I don't leave town; but I'll do a "home draw" once in awhile as a favor. I went to a convalescent home the other day to redraw a patient because the patient's blood I drew at the clinic was hemolized (the blood cells broke up into little pieces in the serum so it couldn't be tested with accuracy.) I drew a coworker's wife at his house this year. I used to home draws a lot when I worked for the hospital.

  5. This is a little mention about the film in a San Francisco Bay Area paper

Tom Petty subject of documentary film

Article Last Updated: 10/09/2007 07:36:20 AM PDT

IT SEEMS LIKE, sooner or later, every musician on the planet becomes the subject of a documentary film. Here's a case where the celluloid is well warranted: "Runnin' Down a Dream: Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers."

Fans of the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer will be happy to hear that the director behind the project is none other than cinema legend Peter Bogdanovich ("The Last Picture Show").

The film has been selected to close the 2007 New York Film Festival and will likely see wide release at some point, but locals can get an advance peek during a one-night-only screening at various theaters on Monday.

The locations are: Embarcadero Center Cinema, 1 Embarcadero Center, San Francisco, $15, 415-352-0835; Livermore Cinemas, 2490 First St., 925-443-7469; Rialto Cinema Elmwood, 2966 College Ave., Berkeley, 510-433-9730.

Check with theaters for prices and show times.

I'd have to do something with my hair if I go as a guy...lol Maybe Joey Ramone... Wow...it's too bad it's only an question of the day and not a real party.. This would be fun.
