I'll take a long-winded defense on this one. If your suppositions are accurate, in terms of being spoiled, then it really shouldn't come as much of a surprise if indeed, there's a divide between how she perceives life, reality, the world, her father and his bandmates work and what most on here would call reality. In other words if what you say is true below and I'm not saying it is, my speculations will follow. If indeed this is accurate... ...then why would anyone think she could handle the stress and extreme financial pressures of any of this? Any judgment rendered unto her is by its very nature also its undoing. Don't expect someone who's never worked a real job their whole life to be thrown into a factory and earn Employee of the Month. I happen to recently peek at Zanes's book and at it's pointed out that coming off the road, Tom was so removed from normal life that he didn't even know how to grocery shop for himself. I'm not condemning Tom for that, nor Adria for her status if indeed she lived off a trust etc. If one's circumstances make one extremely sheltered (and no pun for our fellow Farmer) how could one expect some sudden onset of maturity and level-headedness just because Tom died. And to close off this windbag of a defense, I again think it was in Zanes's book that Adria had to step in and help raise her younger sister during the divorce/Echo period of time with Tom and whatever issues her Mother was dealing with, certainly an admirable thing to do and not something the selfish and narcisstic readily spend time on. And who knows how the stress of that, stepping into the breach as it were, had a long lasting impact. Of course, to some this may seem like a "spoiled little rich girl" but people are more complex than that and none of us have any true insight or history with the involved parties. Spoiled or not, heartache and mourning are still difficult to deal with. Who knows? I don't. Peace.

Her refusing the box set offer may not even be true, it's "allegedly." -
Wildflowers BOX set and Filmore release potential!

Sorry Hoodoo Man. Maybe this is just lawyer tactics to try to get a maximum payday since it's one of Tom's most popular records. I'd be surprised if this is never released; hang in there. Wow! Are you sure? I heard there's some good paternity tests out there, wouldn't hurt to double check. -
Vote: Dogs on the Run vs Change of Heart - Live 1985
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Mudcrutch's topic in Great Wide Open
Going by the albums Change of Heart is one of their best; a mix of crunchy guitars and a nice pop melody that compliment one another. But I reckon the fun here is comparing these particular performances in which case Dogs is the better choice; the performance has a certain groove that just works, highlighting the melancholy with the sense of freedom and buoyant feelings. In a way, it's like they found the true measure of the song on stage instead of the studio. -
Vote: Dogs on the Run vs Change of Heart - Live 1985
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Mudcrutch's topic in Great Wide Open
This should be a no-brainer vote for me; Change of Heart is the better song and is from one of TPATH's best albums. Dogs on the Run is an average as a song off one of their worst. But...this performance of Dogs is really good. Change of Heart is really good too though, a bit faster. But I barely ever listen to Dogs on the Run so it has the novelty factor going for it. Lemme just vote for the independent candidate... -

I respect where you're coming from. Who can say what he'd think about it, I don't know. For my taste these products look unappealing and haphazardly thrown together. Generally I'm against milking the fans for every conceivable dollar and preying upon completionist's impulses when it comes to records or souvenir items; but with that everyone draws the line in a different spot I suppose. I saw this from a rollingstone article on Zeppelin: “There is a thirst for discovery on an artist celebrating its 50th anniversary,” Fraser-Harding tells Rolling Stone. “It’s about creating the right tools to educate and broaden the horizons for the potential consumer. We’ve got to think about the consumer and how they react. Sometimes, it’s a question of how we make something out of nothing.” That's how these things go unless an artist and or his executors are super strict and disciplined; I guess if one gets higher quality releases (unreleased songs, All The Rest) etc. then that's a bonus considering how these things can go, as from that quote "...make something out of nothing." I pretty much agree. I never had Tom on a pedestal despite the whole Hard Promises stand he took, or even if they kept their tickets reasonably priced. Perhaps there were more boundaries set up to keep these sorts of things in line when he was alive, which seems to make sense. Since everything with the lawsuits have come out it seems like they're won't be any "messaging or reasoning" till things are sorted out one way or another. And even if there is a deluge of further greatest hits and reissued material, I hope the unreleased tracks in addition to All The Rest as best as Tom completed it, float to the surface as well. cheers

Words on Take The Highway: Live!

Yes. Full Moon Fever/ITGWO and WF were the albums that brought a lot of new listeners, same with Greatest Hits but TTGWO was the last tour with the old feel of the original band and a sense of newness to the enterprise. The FMF songs and GH while prominent hadn't taken over, they played a good amount of tunes from ITGWO and later in Europe some unreleased songs and a few other deep cuts, when added to the Psychedelic Dragon and other brief stage show and fantasy backdrop made the tour feel special; edited together from two nights Take The Highway came out before the internet, when one either trawled old record shoppes for dodgy quality videos and recordings of live shows or settled for a performance on a talk show or Saturday Night Live and so this videotape felt special to those who bought it at the time, and remained so for those who saw it later online, because of the energy of the band and despite whatever backstage drama existed for them as a group, the sheer fun they exuded from the stage. A last hurrah of the original band, balanced at the edge of how they were and how they were changing. cheers -

Will There Be. Full Moon Fever Deluxe?
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Caruso65's topic in Great Wide Open
A little while ago I listened to it in the first time in a long time and it really is a darn good album. And I really like how it sounds, what a blend of instruments and the drums on this record sound better than ITGWO which is perhaps odd since Lynne was a big part of both. Anyway, I still think they never surpassed the studio version of Runnin' on stage. And no matter how overplayed Won't Back Down is, it still sounds good when not listened to in a long time. It's a good song. And man, Zombie Zoo is the perfect way to end the record. The whole thing flows. Sure, release some demos or unreleased tracks if any from this record but leave it be as is and heck, maybe release a live show from that tour. cheers -
Wildflowers BOX set and Filmore release potential!
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Hoodoo Man's topic in Great Wide Open
If they have these shows recorded, it would be good if they released a show from each tour with a bonus disc of the one-off or deep cuts they rarely played from that tour. And if not enough for a whole disc then at least a few bonus tracks. I suppose it's good the last Fillmore was broadcast and exists out there in such good quality for free as it was one of their best concerts. cheers -
Free Fallin video actress Devon Kidd interview
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Hoodoo Man's topic in Great Wide Open
Thanks for sharing, very interesting. Sounds like she was able to navigate her level of modeling/acting and come out the other side unscathed. She could give off the cute-girl-next-door look or the hot femme fatale and looks great years later, too. Seems like a nice person. The odd thing for me, is aside from a few clips there and there...I've never watched this video. cheers
