Melinda - soundstage - some love for this performance!
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to Big Blue Sky's topic in The Waiting
I pictured something like Breakdown, on album it's just over two minutes I think but live became something else; I think a short but powerful studio version of Melinda would've been a neat contrast to the live version. Moooooot now though. cheers -
Melinda - soundstage - some love for this performance!

I'm fine with live only versions. If they did a studio track I'd be all right with a tight version of the song, under three minutes with a brief but memorable solo from Benmont. I could be wrong but the song much like Two Men Talking struck me as a live jamming vehicle. Something like It's Good To Be King turned into a jam song in the live setting but Two Men Talking and Melinda felt like they were written precisely to be jams, if that makes sense. cheers -

Unheard Song From The Mojo Sessions?
MaryJanes2ndLastDance replied to under-them-skies-of-blue's topic in Great Wide Open
Thanks for sharing this. They certainly enjoy playing these types of songs and the similarity to Green Onions is there. I feel like this type of tune in a live setting is a welcome excuse to let Benmont or Mike or both show off their amazing talent. Having one musician of their caliber in a band is something but two? A piano player who can play virtually any style or song, from classical to jazz to pop-rock? Then you got Mr. Campbell with his ability to shred or play the perfect tasteful notes? That's quite the confluence of talent in one band. And that's not to shortchange the others of course. cheers -

I wonder what the out-of-state late fees are. that is a beautiful locale, sitting there, reading a library book, sipping Maxwell House before a concert...

I'll say a prayer for you Nurk. I'm truly sorry you're going through this and hope the best for you.

Since no one else has responded, I'll tackle this one. Hamburgers? Tom Petty & the Hamburgers? I see what you're saying. I'm going to refine it a bit. Maybe TPATH's music is like a hamburger joint but... ...each burger has the perfect layering of ingredients, where other places throw on a standard amount of garnish, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, etc. TPATH layer on just the right amount of each ingredient, very carefully measured out, with some additional seasonings you won't notice unless pointed out but ones your palette appreciates. That's not all. In addition to burgers, plain and with cheese, they also offer up the occasional unique grilled cheese, corned beef, turkey and even a veggie burger. While most people come and stay for the burgers, there's the regulars who go for these lesser popular plates and even enjoy the daily specials. If TPATH are burger makers than to my taste, the bob segers/bruce springsteens/eagles/james gang/random United States classic rock band are like McDonald's. True they may have a good meal here and there but it's generic processed junk. TPATH are the Mom-and-Pop restaurant, there's something unique about the quality of their food and the care with which they put it together, deceptively simple yet more nutritious and tastier than you'd think. ciao

Wildflowers BOX set and Filmore release potential!

Hmm. I like the color scheme but think the base should be wider/larger. I like the handle visually though I don't think it's practical. However, it is no way worth that amount of money (plus shipping?). It's a mug. It's not worth that cost even if you drink Maxwell House out of it. -

As I was about to sit down and sip some non-Maxwell House coffee it occurred to me to once again return to the point that ALL THE REST should be the next release. 1) Supposedly Tom had it completed (or close to?) before his death. 2) The Anniversary of it is coming up in the Fall 3) It is, as far as we know, the one definite project Tom mentioned and wanted to have released. ---All it would take is to release it in the form he wanted as a affordable single or double disc release. If there's some behind the scenes footage use some of that in promotion, maybe pick a new song as an attempt at a single and have it in stores by the time of its anniversary. It'll carry over into the Christmas shopping season as well. 4) Don't muddle the issue with even more tracks found by Ryan; save those for another release, just go with what Tom wanted. Simple. Unless there's some strange unknown reason why this hasn't happened, it goes to show how messed up things are behind the scenes, aside from the lawsuits. Rant done. Peace. -
if TPATH had ever covered YYZ by Rush, do you think Scott Thurston would've helped out on harmony vocals?
-
Hmm. ---Aside from that I think we're on the same page more or less, your speculation is well reasoned but just your best guess analysis of the situation. That's the thing, we don't know. Yeah, it sounds incredibly stupid (but funny), Tom Petty's face grimly staring out at me at the grocery store from rows of products. Donut Do Me Like That etc. But who knowssss? The Shadow perhaps. I hear ya. I try to avoid these topics and anything else on the lawsuits but something pulls me back in. Gonna have to get better at ignorin' this stuff. I guess enjoy the music you have, albums and live shows and if something good and new emerges from the TPATH camp it's a bonus at this point. My impression is the news is heavily edited, filtered and controlled by a variety of monied interests who don't give a damn about regular people. Local news may be different. My point is, don't let this get you down, we don't live in Trump's World nor Clinton's nor any politicians, not really. Sometimes it's best to get off the internet and get outside, be in God's country and do something physical, don't let the corrupt on either side of political lines get ya down. Speakin' of, took my bike out on a mellow ride the other day, first time this year. Felt good. cheers
