  1. The band excels at their covers and sometimes they even jam on them, which is good, but I'll add this to the long shot of them varying their set list and bringing out deep cuts, I'd be more interested in seeing them cover songs that aren't in their wheelhouse. Covering Dylan seems easy and even somewhat expected from them, and while they can bring out different textures to the songs they cover, hearing them cover Nine Inch Nails, or the Ramones or Van Halen offer up a chance for them to play a somewhat different and unique version of the song, giving it that Heartbreakers feel. I wouldn't expect them to play the Ramones "Bad Brain" like the actual song, but to take the music and using that as a guideline, offer up something new. cheers
  2. Did you enjoy It's Good To Be King live? Melinda? Any of the songs they extend? Despite my dislike of Tom's set list writing, the way they balance out jamming/extending songs in concert with more faithful versions while throwing in some acoustic versions...is good. I think at this point, it would be nice if they did more reworked versions of hits, not necessarily taking a rocker down into an acoustic, but more with the arrangements of the songs. Back to the main topic, listening to musicians as talented as Mike and Ben have the opportunity to do whatever they like for a while in the space of a song is a lot of fun. There's so much energy and inventiveness when they can run wild for a bit. cheers
  3. I was looking for that thread and couldn't remember what it was called and searches turned up nothing so just went with this one instead. Thanks for the link.
  4. Thanks for sharing that. I went right to when she discusses them. I think her reasons make sense and are a good assessment of the band. cheers
  5. To return to the original topic, I could see them covering Crimson as well. I used to like the song years ago but it wore out its welcome a bit for me. cheers
  6. And Bad Brain by the Ramones. Have them filter it through their Heartbreakers sensibility. I could see Tom really getting into the first lines... "I used to be a student, I never used to think..."
  7. I listened to this version. I liked it. Some nice soloing by Mike. Thanks for the recommendation. cheers
  8. What do you think of their more recent material? Dj, Mojo, Hypnotic? Between Stan's departure and Tom's shift in songwriting styles, in many ways, they are a transformed band. cheers
  9. I've never heard the original nor Tom's cover, but I'll take a look for it. cheers
  10. Share what you think of it. Never cared for Bob Dylan for the most part, though I do like when some people cover his music. cheers
  11. Getting either a ten minute mile or under on the indoor track.
  12. http://www.mudcrutch.com/forum/index.php?/topic/14769-opinion-on-hard-promises-one-of-their-weaker-records/
  13. I think Casa Dega is a very good song and could've fit on the record right after Century City, end of Side A or start of Side B. Other than that I'd leave the record alone. Never cared for Surrender.
  14. I went over this again. Mojo climbed quite higher. Echo moved up a bit. Hard Promises and Highway still at the bottom. Full Moon Fever Hypnotic Eye She's The One Long After Dark Into The Great Wide Open Damn the Torpedoes TPATH You’re Gonna Get It Mojo Let Me Up The Last Dj Southern Accents Echo Pack Up The Plantation Wildflowers Hard Promises Highway Companion
  15. I liked this, thanks for posting it. I'd forgotten how with a slightly faster tempo this song has a lot of joyous energy! Reading back of over these posts, I really liked TwoGunslingers suggestion, having the band kick back in and Mike going off on a rocking extended solo. This song has handled being reworked in the 'gospel call-and-response' it's time for it to be rocked up. Oh yeah, when Stan does those drum fills right at the end, that would be a good moment for a Steve Ferrone drum solo that then kicks into a Mike outro solo! cheers
  16. That would explain Stop Draggin', aside from it being a Stevie Nicks song. Regarding the others, a Greatest Hits is, or should be, about the hits. Listen to Your Heart and ITGWO have to be on there since they were successful singles. I don't like YDKHIFTBM but...had it come out before Greatest Hits, I'd expect it on there since it was s big song for them. Aside from that, Listen To Your Heart is a great song! Definitely a perfect fusion of the Heartbreakers musical personalities, there's a lot of interesting playing going on in that song, while at the same time, sounding like no one else out there. cheers
  17. Exception to the rule; I own a uke and I don't like the Man Who Loves Women. I get that it's a tribute to George but that does nothing for me at all. It's not a good song. In my opinion. It still is better than Girl on Lsd, though.
  18. I go by the scientific jukebox test. If the song comes on the jukebox in a bar, will most people recognize it? Hit song. Jammin' Me had a video and I think it had enough radio play to qualify. Maybe one of the least popular ones had it made the record but still...it should've been on there.
