I just don't know how a new classic can be created. Classic artists are only played on classic rock stations, but not their new stuff. At least here in Milwaukee, there is no station that plays new songs by the great, established, been-around-the-block artists. I would love a station that plays new material by TPATH, Neil Young, Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, John Fogerty, plus countless others I can't think of right now. A mix of old and new material would make a great radio station for me. There is no such thing here, though. Do others here on the Farm have broadcast radio stations like this?

Summer for sure! It's too short here in Wisconsin, though.

RollingStone.de: New Tom Petty album in October 2013
SingsInFrench replied to fanfan's topic in Great Wide Open
Oh, sorry Martin, I didn't get the joke. I tend to take things literally. Two albums 8 years apart this century. I didn't see that as a pattern. No talk of a solo album or Mudcrutch album in between, so I think they have time to finish this one soon. -
^ I like your idea of attitude and edge, Brandon. I'm also looking for straight-out rock 'n' roll, Nurk! Tom mentioned the music will be "distorted." I'm trying to imagine that. What do you think he means by that?

^ October, it is then. Keeping my fingers crossed though. -
Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers are due to release a new album, reportedly in October, but maybe in the spring. :003: What kind of an album are you hoping for?

^^ Thanks Nurk! I loved Paul's concert this year. Such a thrill to see him live! I loved all the Beatles songs he performed. Not much of a Wings fan though. But the concert in Milwaukee was great! -

^ What does "already call BS" mean, Martin? You don't believe they have a new album imminent? Tom's been talking about the new album in all his interviews. You think it will take them 5 years to release it? -
^ Hmmm, I disagree about the ampitheater shows I saw. Best TPATH concerts I've seen since I started going to their concerts. Sorry you got a bad one.

^ Barb, you subscribe to Netflix on your computer-go to their website. You can get the first month free then cancel if you want to. I watch the show on my Kindle Fire in bed. You can watch on a tablet, smart phone, computer, or TV if yours is internet capable, either alone, or with a blu-ray player, Xbox, etc. I have a Vizio, and can watch internet stuff on my TV, but I always use my Kindle instead. I hope you enjoy the show!

I just watched the first episode - it's great! My new favorite show! I love dramas that have comedy.
-
Wow! That sounds like lots of drama! I'll have to look for it!

^ Yes Marion! I loved hearing so many songs from Echo that year. I wish Tom would play some of them today, especially Room at the Top, such a beautiful song. That's such a wonderful album that I don't listen to enough. It always makes me cry. It helped me to get through a heartbreak in 2001, too. That and She's the One. Yes, at arenas the casual and first-time fans want those big hits, even though, those of us who have heard them multiple times yearn for the deeper cuts. I feel that Tom really tries to balance the large shows to try to please everyone in the house. I enjoyed hearing so many songs at Summerfest and Noblesville that I had never heard live before. But I really yearned to be at the NY and LA shows. What a rare and special experience that must have been for those fans lucky enough to attend!
-
^ I agree to a point, Marion. Certainly, the small venue shows got the bulk of deep cuts, but the arena/amphitheater shows benefited from Tom's shake-up of the setlists. This year at Summerfest, I got to hear: So You Wanna be a Rock 'n' Roll Star Love is a Long Road Baby, Please Don't Go A Woman in Love Cabin Down Below Tweeter and the Monkey Man Rebels Melinda I Should Have Known It It was absolutely the best TPATH show I've seen since 1999 when I saw my first show. I think that the band deserves their #13 spot, at least. I would put them higher than that, of course. They're my favorite band to see live!

13. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Fans who complained of stale hits-heavy setlists in recent years got a surprise this year when the Heartbreakers overhauled their set with deep originals and covers, including Paul Revere & the Raiders' "(I'm Not Your) Stepping Stone" and the Grateful Dead's "Friend of the Devil." "I think we have raised the bar a bit," Petty tells Rolling Stone. "Musically, the communication is really fantastic right now. I think in many ways, we have gotten better." Showstopper: Petty resurrected the Traveling Wilburys' "Tweeter and the Monkey Man," transforming it into a tension-filled, ten-minute psychedelic epic. RollingStone.de: New Tom Petty album in October 2013
SingsInFrench replied to fanfan's topic in Great Wide Open
Yes, Marion! As much as I enjoy Mojo, I would like an album with more straight up, rock 'n' roll like some of the older albums! I'm excited no matter when the album comes out! I love that they're recording live takes, rather than using overdubs, etc. It gives the music such an immediacy! -
Right on Mikey!

We've had a lot more cooler-than-average days this summer. We set records this weekend for cool high temps. 64 and 69 Sat. and Sun. It felt like fall.

^ ^^ Hahaha! Woohoo!
