I was so happy to be able to get tickets for Peter Bogdanovich's film Runnin Down A Dream,. I love NY and to see this film at the New York Film Festival was a dream come true! I had a very dear friend coming to spend the weekend from PA. After dinner and a quick tour of the house and property we headed to a friend's house in Mantoloking. I had thought we all (my sister was coming, too) would be more comfortable in this big house. And as it is minutes from the train station, a little more convienient. The big day arrives!! After seeing a beautiful sunrise over the Atlantic ocean and a delicious breakfast we head off to the train station. I love taking the train...so easy...and an enjoyable ride. We get into Penn Station at 11:41. Up the 8th Ave. exit and hail a cab. Lincoln Center, please!! Here we are! We make our way over to the Walter Reade Theater Box Office and there is Nancy. So good to see her again. As we are waiting for the Theater to open...Peter Bogdanovich walks by. My sister just froze, ha! She is a big fan of his. We make out way now into the Theater and take some seats in the next to the back row. The back row had some tape on a few seats and we kiddingly said to my sister..."Peter will be sitting there". Well, he did!! You should have seen the look on her face! The lights dim and Peter is on stage to give us a brief intro to his film. He explains there will be a "black hole" sometime into the film. He is upset about that and thought we should know. The film!! I just love how this was all set up..how it flowed. Different times in the bands lives filled with photos, old film footage and interviews with family and friends. I loved the sweeping camera shots of the concerts. An emotional time when Tom was talking about his Mom...I, too, lost my Mom at a very early age. Seeing sweet Howie...the cute pics of Tom as a child. Mudcrutch and the festivals....this band is truly one and I loved learning about the friendships that started it all. At the end, Peter did a brief Q & A. Wish it had been longer but another film was to be shown. I am so glad that a film is now here that finally documents the rise and fame of this great American Rock and Roll band. Thank you, Peter, for your artistic vision of it and thank you, always........always, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers for your music...in the past and in the coming future. We continue to travel this road of great rock and roll music with you.....Rock on!!!!!!
