    Clear Channel- Discuss

I posted this in the other CC thread but this is my thought: "From what I recall Clear Channel didn't "ban" The Last DJ. Several stations owned by CC just didn't play the song because they felt it was too harsh on the radio industry, so that would be the Program Director's call for their specific station, not Clear Channel owned stations as a whole. Clear Channel did have the infamous "ban list" after 9/1, however it was not mandated. Some PD sent out an e-mail with questionable songs after the attacks that might be negatively received due to the tragedies. Corporate did not enforce it or originate the idea. It was merely an advisory idea by someone in programming, but of course the media blew it way out of proportion. Also, Clear Channel is the largest owner of radio stations in the US, and they are expanding their online presence through iHeartRadio, which they own. As for the question if they have come around? If you mean playing TPATH, corporate doesn't seem to have a problem with them. It was just specific stations. And hey, the way advertising sales are floundering, if they can get more listeners to tune in, as iHeartRadio is PPM I believe, they'll put their differences aside for the almighty buck." Also, for what Clear Channel plays...they use PPM. Think Nielsen and Arbitron. It's a system that measure what people's listening patterns are. Before this system there used to be diarist, people actually wrote down what and when they listened, which some people skewed the overall listening patterns because they were loyalists to specific stations or programs. Anywho, PPM supposedly provides better data to what people are actually listening to and the stations will tailor their playlist around that...unfortunately it's mostly crap.

    TOUR 2014 PREMIUM TICKET PACKAGES

Well unfortunately the ticket prices just reflect the consolidation of the concert industry and general inflation. It costs a lot of money for a band to go out on the road and there are a lot of salaries to pay. Clear Channel's LiveNation (which owns TM) control most of the venues, so they control the market. As long as people are willing to pay huge sums to see bands, prices will keep going up.They want to make money, the band wants to make money. There's not a lot of revenue to be made off of selling music, they get most of their income from touring nowadays.

    TOUR 2014 PREMIUM TICKET PACKAGES

The Eugene show VIP ticket package is listed at $332 on the Oregon Ducks Online Ticket Office site. So I'm guessing they're going to be around that general price?
  5. I work in radio. Actually, radio changed drastically with the Telecommunications Act of 1996. Music formats are controlled by an oligopoly, which means only and handful of major companies (for example ClearChannel) control what you hear on the radio. Basically, with the deregulation of the radio industry it extremely limited diversity in what music we can play. These companies rarely stray from the their format playlists so you end up hearing the same songs over and over again. Even though TPATH is a established group the chance of their new album being spun on a regular basis is not going to happen, unless the station's PD or MD is a fan and puts it into rotation. Young people really didn't change anything...it was advent of the internet, other technologies and the government that did. Also PPM, boo to that!

    Upcoming Shows?

Word on the street is this fall.
  7. Hello all. As some of you know I work in radio. Well, the rock station KISW, that is part of the cluster of stations I work for, was lucky enough to have Soundgarden's Chris Cornell and Ben Shepherd play a very intimate acoustic set to an extremely small group of KISW listeners. Anywho, we just finished editing up some of the video and wanted to share with you all. Even if you don't like Soundgarden, Chris Cornell is great eye candy Black Hole Sun [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pv4yQAAmnXs]Chris & Ben (Soundgarden) - Black Hole Sun - YouTube[/ame] Fell On Black Days [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuaSz89GeAg]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fuaSz89GeAg[/ame] If you want real HD quality visit http://media.kisw.com/latest-video.htm It was just easier to link the youtube versions. And here is a picture of all of us radio nerds and degenerates with Chris and Ben:

Poll of the Day - 9/20

I produce shows for the queen of sappy love songs Delilah who is nationally syndicated Basically radio is using a PPM system, which is like the Nielsen system. It gauges what a small amount of people like to listen to which extremely limits the on-air jocks.

Poll of the Day - 9/20

The sad thing is in radio nowadays we can only play certain songs during certain hours. Long gone are the days of the DJs picking out what they want to play. It's just basically a playlist to choose from which they dont even get to choose. Everything is preprogrammed. It's a bummer.
