  1. Monty has used up a few of his nine lives after he was stuck in the engine of his owner's car for 20 miles and fell out at 60mph on a motorway slip road. The six-year-old ginger cat had hidden underneath the car and travelled from Linthwaite, near Huddersfield, to Greater Manchester. But as his owner, John Cotgrave, sped up to join the M60 Monty fell, bounced and rolled on the road before running away. Monty Montywith his owners John Cotgrave and Richard McArtney. He made a full recovery after his bumpy ride Mr Cotgrave, 35, felt a bump underneath his car and was shocked to see little Monty in the middle of the road as he gazed in his rear view mirror. He said: "I was coming up to 60mph and I could hear this banging to the front of the car. "The next thing I saw was Monty in the rear view mirror. I put two and two together and my life just froze. I could have been sick. I thought I had killed him, my own cat. "I saw him run up the embankment and toward this big housing estate and I thought, 'at least he seems OK.' But I was worried I'd lose him. "I found him by a fence post at the top of the embankment. His face was soaked in blood. I just picked him up and cradled him. I took him to the vet who established there was no internal bleeding. He was a very, very lucky cat." Owners Mr Cotgrave and Richard McArtney say Monty has made a full recovery. Mr Cotgrave, 35, said: "I just can't believe what happened to him. I am so lucky his is still here with us. "Seeing him bounce and roll on to the road in my rear view mirror is an image I will never forget. The colour drained from my face. I really thought we would lose him." Monty suffered facial injuries and lost teeth and was left with a black eye. Mr Cotgrave and Mr McArtney have just moved from Birkby to Linthwaite and Monty had just begun to explore the area before the incident on Sunday. Mr Cotgrave originally thought Monty was in the bumper, but now believes he was in the engine. He said: "I couldn't believe he was in the actual engine at first but I remember this banging or knocking at first. I'm told there is space for a cat at the front of the engine and I think that is the most likely explanation. "But, of course, all I saw was Monty bumping on the ground after he left the car. The poor thing must have been hanging on for dear life." Mr Cotgrave, a teacher, and Mr McArtney, a nurse at Huddersfield Royal Infirmary, say Monty is getting better and is his playful self again. But the incident has made Mr Cotgrave become a more careful cat owner. "It's safe to say I will be checking more carefully in the future before I drive off," he said. "I never want this to happen again."

  13. Ancient Artifact? A little boy opened the big and old family Bible with fascination, looking at the old pages as he turned them. Then something fell out of the Bible and he picked up and looked at it closely. It was an old leaf from a tree. The leaf had been pressed in between pages. "Momma, look what I found", the boy called out. "What have you got there, dear?" his mother asked. With astonishment in the young boy's voice he answered: " I think it's Adam's underwear!"
