I don't see any way Mudcrutch plays any Petty songs, solo albums or otherwise. I wold bet the farm against it. The only exception, as TomFest said, would be "Don't Do Me Like That."

Festivals are indeed where the money is -- makes me wonder if this tour will be solely limited to festivals or if they might do a few headline shows as well. Sure makes it hard to plan my summer! I imagine Outside Lands festival is a no-brainer, but I'm having trouble thinking of any other festivals they might play. SummerFest in Milwaukee? Newport Folk maybe? I'm also anticipating some warm-up shows throughout California.
Also something to keep in mind is that Petty likes to keep tours short. If the tour starts at the end of May, I could see this thing wrapping up by the end of July or start of August. Wish they'd just put all their cards on the table already!

Interesting discussion. Me too tend to suspect (and personally, I kinda agree) that Heartbreakers stuff is "off limits". With the occasional TP solo, old original Mudcrutch, a variety of cool covers and two full albums of songs.. I have no problem imagining a quite fantastic set! Someone mentioned the m.... word.. Well, if you are a band that are per definition not mainstream.. once you are booked and paid to play, I say screw that crowd. They are rats anyway.

I'm thinking they could throw "Don't Do Me Like That" in there, if they wanted to.  It was a Mudcrutch song before it was a Heartbreakers song.

I agree with everyone above; looks like I'll have to bite the bullet to go to Summer Camp in Ill. (3 1/2 hour drive) but there's no way I'm camping out!! hahaha; the Cinci show sounds interesting too-will keep it in mind;  maybe they'll play a smaller stand-aione concert somewhere; lotta wait and seeing

I want ahead and bought VIP tickets... Ouch $$$... But I was planning on spending more if I had to travel to see them.

I have to assume they are playing festivals to help finance the tour.

Nice! Interesting that the Shelters are also on the bill. Second festival announcement, which I find a little surprising because I thought Mudcrutch would be more low key and enjoy the smaller venue vibe as opposed to the huge crowd circus they always see in the Heartbreakers. Their setlists for these festivals are going to be fascinating, since they don't have any huge "hits" to rev the crowd up with.
It's even more surprising that it's now been nearly a full week since the first show announcement, and here we are with a second "hanging chad" stand alone announcement, and yet still NOTHING official from the band themselves about an album and tour. You'd think they would want to get out ahead of this stuff! There is definitely not an kind of sense of urgency with them or management at all. I'm dying to read some details!!

    From Paste Magazine:
Sometimes a band’s sound and their hometown are inextricable, so tied together that it’s impossible to imagine them being from anywhere else. So it is with The Shelters and Los Angeles, a quartet filled with the swagger of Hollywood stars. It’s as if the Laurel Canyon harmonies of the 1970s spent the glam rock ‘80s in The Viper Room on the Sunset Strip before getting a 2015 update in Silverlake. Fuzzy, bluesy and melodic, it’s no surprise that these kids just got signed to Warner Bros. and got a little L.A. musician named Tom Petty to co-produce their first full-length due out next year.
You can hear their 4-song EP on Spotify or here:  http://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2015/10/album-premiere---the-shelters.html

That's why Mudcrutch is such a nice outfit; everyone's contributing with a song on the new album and gets to feel more connected/invested if they tour.

It really is a wonderful book.  Warren did an excellent job taking us on Tom's journey over the years.  I liked the way he marked each section in time with the making of each album telling the reader what was going on at the time. Tom's life is such a great story.  I don't know why I feel so connected to this band, but I do!  You would think after so many years the feeling would just die one day but it never does!   I still love the music and the stories!  I will always follow their journey. ❤️

I've started it, it's hard to put down, but I have people coming over and have to prepare.
This book isn't from a Heartbreaker, it's from a long-time friend of Howie's who didn't even know the TP&H, that's why they were so close.  She didn't care that he was a rock star, so he told her a lot of things.  It starts right after the funeral in Milwaukee, so the writer was there too,
A lot of it is recalled conversations with Howie and memories, but Howie's 'ghost' pops in to help her process her grief,  I was very skeptical at first, but I just love it.  She knows a lot, but it's not a 'tell-all' book, it's more respectful than that.  I can't wait to get back to it.  I only wish the pictures on the website were in the book too.
So, basically, this was his best friend speaking for him because he can't. She is honest, doesn't sugar coat things, and shows us a side of Howie we didn't get to see much of.  Will tell more when finished.

LOL, haven't really started reading it yet, have to update my IOS for Kindle app, don't want to do that, will have to read it on laptop instead. Only read the "Look Inside" and your right, freaky LOL.  I did find the website www.deadrockstarbestfriend.com and there are pics of him in better days. I'm definitely going to read it this weekend.

I loved the style of writing too. I have read a LOT of rock 'n roll autobiographies/biographies and there is not one that is better written. The honesty jumps off the page, and the admiration for the band is present, but is not allowed to get in the way of the truth. "Running Down A Dream" is more like a promoters version of the story, where things are left out and things are polished to look shiny and pleasant. This book is closer to the truth, and I respect Tom more for allowing a few "warts" to be seen. I understand the unfortunate dramas with Stan and Howie much better. I know from personal family issues with addiction, how difficult it is to see someone you love crash and burn. Tom's own addiction issues would have made it even more complicated and impossible to address the problem in another simultaneously. It is time for forgiveness there. This is the first time I see some honesty in the discussion of Stan. As with most "divorces", there are two sides to the story and both are true. I agree with Marion, and wish Mike could have his wings. I have a feeling that his freedom is coming soon. The Merry Minstrel show appearance by Tom and crew, gives me a feeling that Tom is now recognizing Mike's side job as bonefide. I have a good feeling that "Something Good is Coming" with the Knobs! I was also surprised to see more details on Tom's divorce, since I thought there was a vow of silence on both parts...... Must have had an expiration date....😏. If you haven't bought the book, you should. I appreciate the candor of the band, and thank Warren for completing this lengthy, worthy project. I hesitated at first to buy it, thinking I must have already read or heard all there was on Tom and TPATH. I am glad I bought it anyway.
