  1. NEW YORK (AP) - In a rare appearance on someone else's talk show, David Letterman was a guest at the 22nd season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show," which taped before thousands of cheering fans at Madison Square Garden in New York instead of in Chicago.

Winfrey asked Letterman, 60, if he was "interview-phobic."

"It's just that you know, when you have your own show, you have plenty of time to talk about whatever you want to talk about anyway," the host of the "Late Show with David Letterman" said.

Winfrey got him to open up a bit, talking about his love for a home he keeps in Montana and how honoured he was to have a communications building dedicated in his name this month at his alma mater, Ball State University. He even showed family photos.

The birth of his son Harry has made a "huge difference" in Letterman's life, but the three-year-old does not always get his father's sense of humour.

"Mommy has to tell him a lot that I'm just teasing," Letterman said.

Letterman said he struggles between using "patience or discipline" raising his son, whose mother is Letterman's girlfriend Regina Laskey.

Letterman said Harry had to be placed on the "naughty chair" over the weekend after misbehaving.

    "He's still there," Letterman joked.

The visit marks another step forward in a once uncomfortable relationship between the two stars. Winfrey twice appeared on Letterman's NBC show before he jumped networks in 1993, but then rejected repeated offers to visit again. In 2003, Winfrey told Time magazine she would not appear with Letterman because she had been "completely uncomfortable" as the target of his jokes.

Their reconciliation began in 2005 when Winfrey appeared on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman." During the broadcast, he escorted her across the street to the opening night of the Broadway musical "The Color Purple," which she produced.

The two then appeared in a surprise promotion for his "Late Show" during January's Super Bowl in which Letterman was shown munching chips on the couch, then being reprimanded by Winfrey for talking with his mouth full.

Winfrey assured Letterman their frosty relations are over, showing footage of her office in which two photos of Winfrey and Letterman are mixed in among photos of Winfrey with John Travolta, Stevie Wonder, Nelson Mandela and her boyfriend Stedman Graham.

David Letterman, who appeared on the season premiere of "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Monday, brought one of his trademark Top 10 lists titled, "Top 10 Reasons I love Oprah."

    -No. 10: She smells great.

-No. 9: Without her, we would have never known that quack Dr. Phil.

-No. 8: She helped me start my wildly popular D magazine.

    -No. 7: We're yoga buddies.

-No. 6: Oprah's incredibly busy, yet she always finds time to ignore my calls.

-No. 5: She agreed to validate my parking.

-No. 4: Taught me how to launder money in the Cayman Islands.

-No. 3: Anytime I'm in Chicago, she lets me crash on her couch.

-No. 2: Oprah gave me my first post-surgery sponge bath.

-No. 1: She's giving everybody in today's audience a new house.

  2. ^ YES! Okay, who do you think will go next Sunday?

^^PJ, I thought I was the only one who does that, lol. Glad to see I have a friend.

I confess, I'm a little depressed that tonight was the season finale of The Closer. Next week will be Saving Grace's and this week is Monk's. *sigh*

  3. Coldplay Names Eight Songs Pegged For New Album

    coldplay_03l.gifspacer.gif

Coldplay has named eight songs in contention for its fourth album, due sometime next year. According to a post on the band's Web site, the tracks are "Lost," "Cemeteries of London," "Violet Hill," "Poppy Fields," "42," "Yes!," "Leftrightleftrightleft" and "Rainy Day."

"Expect a short, concise record with no fat and at least two top-division songs released independently," the post says, adding, "We're still a few months from finishing but already the arguments about track listing have begun."

The band previously said the as-yet-untitled new album is "infused" with "the sights, sounds and flavors of Latin America and Spain." It is being recorded in Barcelona and was inspired by Coldplay's visits to South America earlier this year.

"The music and lyrics have begun to reflect the strengthening Hispanic theme," the band told fans. However, don't expect any exotic instrumentation to get in the way of Coldplay's signature power ballads: "No maracas or castanets, but a vibrancy and colorfulness that owes much to the atmosphere of Buenos Aires and Barcelona."

As previously reported, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin guests on Kanye West's new album, "Graduation," due tomorrow (Sept. 11) via Def Jam.

  4. Neil Young unveils 'Chrome Dreams' tour

Neil Young has revealed plans for a North American tour to back the release of his forthcoming album, "Chrome Dreams II."

The two-month North American trek is set to kick off Oct. 18 in Boise, ID, two days after the new album is due in stores. Young's wife, Pegi, will be the opening act on all dates; she released her debut album last summer.

Neil Young's backing band for the tour will include Ben Keith (pedal steel guitar, dobro and other instruments), Ralph Molina (drums) and Rick Rosas (bass), all of whom were on hand in Northern California last summer to help record "Chrome Dreams II."

As the tour gets warmed up, Young will host the 21st annual concerts, set for Oct. 27 and 28 in Mountain View, CA. He'll be joined on the bill by Metallica, John Mayer, Tom Waits with the Kronos Quartet, and the trio of Eddie Vedder, Flea and Jack Irons, among others.

"Chrome Dreams II" clocks in at more than an hour, and includes among its 10 tracks two epics: one 18 minutes long and another 13 minutes. Young and his "The Volume Dealers" partner Niko Bolas produced.

The original "Chrome Dreams" album was scheduled for release in 1977, but was shelved. "Unfortunately, all original documentation and art for this album was lost in a fire that destroyed Neil's Malibu home in early 1978," according to Young's .

  5. John Fogerty's 'Revival' comes with US tour

    johnfogerty-091007.jpg

John Fogerty, who's been touring Europe and Canada this summer ahead of his new album, has assembled a five-week US trek to support the set.

The outing launches Nov. 2 at New York City's Hammerstein Ballroom and visits theaters and arenas all over the country through Dec. 5, when it is scheduled to wrap at Nashville's Ryman Auditorium. Dates are listed below.

Fogerty will drop his forthcoming album, "Revival," Oct. 2 and promote it with an appearance that night on CBS-TV's "Late Show with David Letterman."

The self-produced "Revival" is the veteran rocker's first album of new material for Fantasy Records in 35 years. The former Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman fought with the label for more than 30 years over the rights to his own songs. The company was sold to Concord Records in recent years, paving the way for a reconciliation with Fogerty in 2005, which was followed later that year by the release of his first complete career retrospective, "The Long Road Home."

The Rock and Roll Hall of Famer said that seeing the Fantasy logo on his new album was "surreal," according to a press release, which added that the material on "Revival" represents a renewed musical spirit and heart for Fogerty.

"It just seemed like all the records I have made since Creedence Clearwater Revival have all been sort of pushed off center," the Grammy winner said in a statement. "I felt like I was dancing around the outskirts of what is my true center. With this album, I really wanted to stay on the mark, right in the middle, right where rock 'n' roll is. I wanted this one to be easier, a lot more fun than some of the past records have been."

The album's lead single, "Don't You Wish It Was True," has shipped to radio and the video is currently streaming at Fogerty's website.

In addition to traditional record outlets, "Revival" will be stocked at Starbucks coffee shops and a special edition will be available at Wal-Mart stores. The Wal-Mart version will include a bonus DVD with a 30-minute Fogerty interview and footage from his June Glastonbury Festival performance. The singer's website is also taking pre-orders for a limited-edition vinyl pressing.

Fans who can't make it to one of Fogerty's concerts can catch the performer on the PBS-TV series "Soundstage" in January. The one-hour special is scheduled to be recorded Nov. 29 in Chicago.

  6. I had heard a little rumor about the Lucinda Williams concert Saturday night at the El Rey Theatre in Los Angeles . Marion found this post at Lucinda's website forum, it's about the show Saturday night.

Incredible show last night; one of the best I've ever seen. Jim Lauderdale & Steve Earle on stage for most of "Car Wheels" set. Mike Campbell played guitar on "Greenville" & "Joy". Doug Pettibone & Mike turning "Joy" into a guitar orgy. Allison Moorer (Steve's wife) sang with Lucinda on "Still I Long". Crowd ecstatic all night long. Opened 2nd set with "Where Is My Love' & "Fruits Of My Labor". Can't recall all the songs but the 2nd set can't be described properly it was so good. Mike Campbell stayed out there for about the last six songs. Doug, Butch & David Sutton all had tremedous nights. Songs I can remember: Righteously, Come On, Honey Bee, Jailhouse Tears (Great duet with Steve Earle), Mama, Don't Let Your Babies, Unsuffer Me, Wrap My Head Around That, Change The Locks, maybe more. I'll be surprised if the roof is still on The El Rey when I get there tonight.

Lu said that Emmylou Harris will be at one of the shows. Could be tonight since she's doing the Sweet Old World album. Emmylou covered "Sweet Old World"; and I also expect her to do "Greenville" again since Emmylou sang on the record. Marvin Etzioni also played with the band alot in the 2nd set (Mandolin, tambourine, maraccas). He was with the band Lone Justice and a LA fixture.

They made a copy of the show available right after the show for the fans that were there, it looks like they will soon make it available for others also. Let's hope so!!

  7. Kid Rock has been ordered by Las Vegas police to appear in court next month after attacking rocker Tommy Lee at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.

Rock, real name Robert James Ritchie, was ejected from the show in front of thousands of fans after punching the Motley Crue drummer.

Although neither star was arrested at the time of the incident, both rockers were later questioned by local authorities with Rock receiving a citation for the assault.

A spokesman for the Las Vegas Police Department tells TMZ.com, "A little after 8:00pm last night we received a call that a disturbance had occurred at the MTV Video Music Awards. We had a lot of officers working in and around the awards so they got there fairly quickly. We determined that the altercation was between Kid Rock and Tommy Lee.

"After our investigation, Kid Rock did receive a citation for misdemeanor battery. Everyone involved was interviewed."

Kid Rock will appear in court in the next three to five weeks, where he faces a maximum sentence of six months behind bars.

Both Lee and Ritchie have been married to former Baywatch beauty Pamela Anderson, but it is unclear whether she was the cause of the fight.
