normandi got a reaction from Silver Spurs in ECHO - the most real, honest, genuine heartfelt album.
Stopped into one of my fave spots for lunch today and they were playing ECHO on the stereo. Normally I eat and dash but not today! I found out my waiter was the one playing it so I left him an extra tip and told him why! He said it was his favorite Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers record so I asked him why. He told me that the songs just resonated with him and that he felt he was hearing the real Tom on this record more than any other and it just felt like truth to him.  Pretty good answer.

All I know is that it is the one album in my collection that has not been taken off of my CD player in the last 6 years. Always in the rotation.

I know the Wildflowers thing is something people have been clamoring for going on years now.  But yeah, I would love a curated Fillmore anthology for sure.

I personally love Benmont's album. It has a lot of great songs on there. I love "Today I Took Your Picture Down", "Blonde Girl, Blue Dress", "You Should Be So Lucky", "Veronica Said", and "Why Don't You Quit Leaving Me Alone". Those songs show that Benmont can write well thought out, interesting, and complex songs and that he is more than just the best damn piano player in rock. Now do I think his voice would lend itself to being a front man of a rock band? No, not at all. But I don't think he has to. His album shows he could have been heralded as a great singer/songwriter in the vein of Randy Newman and Leonard Cohen. Not a mainstream figure, but a popular, well received my his peers, influential musician and writer.

The one thing I wish though, is although I like the Beatleesque "Like the Sun", I wish he recorded it like he played it on Jimmy Kimmel as a piano ballad. It is so great and beautiful. Unfortunately, you cannot find that version anywhere anymore. It use to be on YouTube but somehow it vanished into the ether.

Nah, the Farm isn't being swallowed up by anyone or anything. It sounds like you are thinking about shutting down the site for lack of interest. Tons of people don't use Facebook or even smartphones, and that's where Mudcrutch Farm steps in. The Farm isn't what it was in 2000 because people move on to try these new things and when they can't figure it out, give up on everything. That's not a reason to consider shutting down the site. A lot of us OLDIES don't post anymore, but I do to keep this site going. I've always tried to post things to bring new fans to the site. You ask what is Mudcrutch Farm. Well, I'll tell you. It was a dream of Tom Petty's that never worked out. BUT he never gave up and went on to become 1 of America's greatest bands and then after 30 years brought back his beloved dream of Mudcrutch! He never gave up and should be an inspiration to all people of the world to never give up on your dreams. And by that I mean you as Mudcrutch. #2 Where do we go from here? Add #3 too. Maybe try adding video's of TPATH or even video's from members of themselves doing TPATH and even covers of other bands to draw new fans. Just make sure everyone has their songs covered from law suits.....lol. #4 What should stay the same....Most of the posting should stay, people DO have things to say. The last thing I'm going to say is that I believed in you when I 1st found this site and traveled across the state to meet you when you were at Bowling Green and we spent the night partying around town and finally at what you called a flop house...lol. We left the next morning for Milwaukee to see TPATH at Summerfest 2003 and we had the best of times meeting all the Mudcrutch Farm members. I still hope to get together with everyone again. All we have now are memories, but with your help keeping this place alive, we have hope of doing it again. Hang in there Ryan, I believed in you, believe in us. Thanks....................your friend... Nurk.

I fear my heart is broken. I awoke to the tragic news of the terrible events of yesterday piling onto the suffering already underway for so many in this world. My heart was already heavy and now this. I am praying for all of Tom's family, all of the Heartbreakers and their families, all of the dear friends who make up that family, and all of us who shared the love of Tom and the Heartbreakers music. My heart aches for all of you. R.I.P. Tom. 😢

I'm always pleased to hear that there are a few more Echo disciples out there. Thanks for sharing that experience nornandi, very cool.  Good to know that I'm not a single voice in the wilderness in appreciating the genius in this album of Truth. In the fullness of time I firmly believe that Echo will be considered one of the best if not the best Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers album. It has been neglected live by the band down the years for many valid human emotion reasons on many levels, (with a few live performance notable exceptions that I always felt were difficult for the band, but they did them)  but the best consequence of the publication of Zane's biography on Tom seems to me to be Tom healing and coming to terms with the circumstances around that time and the release of the songs on Echo to fly under the power of their own wings from here on! Here's hoping!

It really is a wonderful book.  Warren did an excellent job taking us on Tom's journey over the years.  I liked the way he marked each section in time with the making of each album telling the reader what was going on at the time. Tom's life is such a great story.  I don't know why I feel so connected to this band, but I do!  You would think after so many years the feeling would just die one day but it never does!   I still love the music and the stories!  I will always follow their journey. ❤️

Well put Marion. There is something special about this band that keeps us following them after 40 years. They always keep their music fresh while changing all the time to keep on top of things. Every LP brings us a new adventure in the life of TPATH. I look forward to their future recordings and dvd's.

Before I read this book, I read a shitty newspaper article focusing on To'ms addiction to heroin and Jane's struggles with mental illness.  I am glad that I did not allow this shitty article to detract me from reading the book.  While all of these struggles are in the book, Warren handled everything with tact and dignity.  I was extremely impressed at how he wrote about Jane's struggles.  there was a certain point when it no longer applied to Tom that he stopped.  I am going to be honest and say that reding about Jane's struggles broke my heart.  Over the last 10 years or so, I have learned more than I ever wanted to about mental illness and such.  I pray to God that Jane was able to get help and rise out of the darkness of mental illness that robs a person of their whole being.  It is a wonderful book on so many levels.  It made me respect Tom and the band even more than I already have in the first place.
