A suggestion: Keep the 'Farm open through the release of the new TPATH song giving members here one last good discussion of the tune and their reactions to it.
If not though, I understand and again thank you for keeping this place going as long as you have.
    cheers

Yes, I'm sad to learn The Farm will be no more. I haven't been participating at all for quite awhile, so I can't really complain, not that I was going to. I understand completely, Ryan.
Thank you, Ryan, for all you've done here! And also, thank you Marion, for everything you've contributed here.
Thank you, members, for including me in this wonderful forum over the years.
    Love,

Thanks to @Marion and @Mudcrutch and all of the other people who have made this place possible. I first joined here -- or at least this site in an earlier form -- when I was a young teenager and now I'm 30! Crazy how time flies. This place is definitely an institution for any TPHB fan, and I appreciate and enjoyed all the conversations I've had with many fans here over the years.

    Suggestion:
I find reddit to be confusing and difficult to load. I understand the advantage of it, though, because it ostensibly organizes things by thread.

But what about Facebook? I know there's a Mudcrutch Farm group on facebook, and that would be a far preferable outlet in comparison to the Tom Petty Nation FB page, which seems overloaded (in my opinion) with boomers just freely writing their thoughts with random word association.
Could we maybe continue to participate in discussions via Facebook somehow? Either via Mudcrutch Farm's Facebook site, or create a new one, with forum capabilities? Or if forum capabilities actually don't exist, we can tag posts, etc.

Desiderata Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time. Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass. Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness. Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.[ Max Ehrmann, 1948

    To clarify:
The Petty Archives is in solidarity with the Tom Petty Estate.
(Including the Heartbreakers, Tom's daughters (Adria and AnnaKim) , their mother Jane, Dana, and her son Dylan).
We are supplemental to the estate (although not associated with them) and would not want to go against their decisions.
While we (The Petty Archives) would never discriminate one way or the other, we do not want to be associated with going against the Tom Petty Estate and their decisions regarding where Tom's music is played. Thank you for understanding. I apologize if we were not clear about this.

And I apologize to Ryan for bringing this up in this thread, but I wanted to make a public reply to this. Thank you all. ❤️

I'm sorry to see you go but am very glad I found you several years ago!
I came here to learn about Mudcrutch, after seeing one of their two shows at the Fillmore in S.F. in 2008.
I wised up by their 2016 tour and went to all three Bay area shows and immensely enjoyed every second!
Sadly, I cannot take your recommendation to frequent the Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers site run by his hateful daughters.
They've made it abundantly clear that Americans that support our president are NOT welcome there.
    Screw 'em.
I'll now spend my time at The Petty Archives, where it's accepted that Americans are allowed to have differing opinions.
Much love and future success to you and thank you again!

All great points and after Tom's passing it really hasn't been the same. Facebook, etc has definitely put the squeeze on many sites. Remember, this place was originally built as an alternative to the un-moderated official forums where many were driven away. Ironically the people that took refuge here and wanted to exclude others (for valid reasons) don't come here anymore anyway. People can now live in the the safe friend circles they create on other sites. Photo hosting which was once a needed service for tour photos, etc is now easily uploaded from your phone to your social profile, etc.
In the end the demise of this site is of my own doing. I will never blame external X factors. We needed a regular flow of news, articles, content, etc. posted on this site and social sites driving eyes back here to keep a fresh group of fans passing through. I never had the time or put enough focus on curating the culture that could sustain this place.
Communities built on OTHER platforms are in danger as well. I hosted and held secure all the data here. People don't have that sort of control when they don't own the data. Things can change any moment!

Rolling Stone with thanks to Petty Archives
During the scheduling of his current tour, Petty agreed to let Chicago rock station WLUP buy all 14,000 seats for his show there and distribute them for free. WLUP's arch rival, WMET, then refused to play Hard Promises. "This is so fucking silly I can't get beyond it," said an incredulous Petty. "I'm getting paid and 14,000 kids are getting in for free? Fuck, yeah, I'll do that. For anybody."

    Exactly. So true.
A little search through Petty Archives & look what appears! Interview in Record Review August 1979 - Damn The Torpedoes released October 1979.
Did you write more than you're going to use?
Yeah, I think we wrote about 20 songs.
    And you'll use 10?
So far we're using 10, but we've only mixed one, so I don't know yet, but we've got 10 favorites that we'll mix first. If we can fit more on without hurting the balance we will; if you go over 18 minutes a side, the sound starts to go bad.
Were the songs written for this new 24-track song, or are they just Tom Petty songs?
They're just my songs; I'd write the songs same as I always have, get the band in the room and work them out. One big difference was that we used a big room to record in; we've always used little rooms in the past. We used a big room to cut the tracks, to get live echo, real echo, and we could play louder, more like we do live. All we did was play almost two dozen songs until we had the feel and the arrangements the way we wanted. I'm real happy with the tracks; they feel right.
Had you written any songs before you went in the studio to cut the tracks?
We had six, three that I had written with Michael [Campbell, guitarist], and three I wrote myself, that were done before we went in.
So Mike is still contributing a lot?
Yeah, I know that three of the songs that we wrote together are going to be on the album, and we wrote a few more together too. I wrote a lot on my own too.
The last time we talked, you mentioned getting a unity amongst the tracks, where there is strength both seperately and as an album. Has that aspect developed yet for this album?
Well I've been real conscious about this album 'cause I want it to be an album. I trust that the unity is all right; there are a lot of different songs here. Song for song, they're very different, in style and intensity.
Where are the songs coming from lyrically?
    Well, all over the place.
    A lot of love songs?
No shortage of love songs this time, though some of them aren't love songs. There's one called "Louisiana Rain" which isn't a love song, and a song called "Casa Dega" which isn't either.
You played that song live didn't you?
Yeah, we played a couple new songs during our Christmas tour of the West coast.

Liberty reacted to Big Blue Sky in Old & new interviews with Tom & the Heartbreakers
The idea is that this can be a thread where we attach links to interviews that we stumble across. Perhaps for this thread we could more-or-less focus on interviews with the actual guys, rather than interviews about them? Audio, footage and/or written?
So maybe it could focus on the inner core - Tom Petty, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Ron Blair, Stan Lynch, Howie Epstein, Steve Ferrone, Scott Thurston.  And members of their long-term support team? And families? Let your heart be your guide...
I know there's a real wealth of interviews in Petty Archives, so maybe we need to be aware of not doubling up.  We love the Petty Archives & want to support them! But on other hand, some of these interviews are just, wow, gold, and it'd be a shame to let them slip away into the depths.
    thanks!

There's a seemingly large mistake when Hypnotic Eye is referred to as Hurricane Eye. It's actually quite shocking considering the quality of Mr. Zollo's first edition. I wonder if there's something in the newer material where HE was actually going to be called HE instead.

There are a few songs on this album I absolutely love...
The others I could take or leave. I do like darker, more morose music. I often feel it is more heartfelt and cold, in a way. I feel like "Blue Sunday" would have fit on this album well, rather than The Last DJ.
    "Room at the Top" – 5:00 (specifically live version) "Counting on You" – 4:05 "Free Girl Now" – 3:30 "Lonesome Sundown" – 4:32 "Swingin'" – 5:30 "Accused of Love" – 2:45 "Echo" – 6:36 "Won't Last Long" – 4:22 "Billy the Kid" – 4:08 (specifically live version) "I Don't Wanna Fight" (Mike Campbell) – 2:47 "This One's for Me" – 2:42 "No More" – 3:15 "About to Give Out" – 3:12 "Rhino Skin" – 3:57 "One More Day, One More Night" – 5:37
