thoughts on "Into the Great Wide Open" CD
Dynabeat Tim replied to Dynabeat Tim's topic in Great Wide Open
Good point Beamish. And plus this thread ( and the others I started ) are to find out what other TP fans think. I've only been "into" Tp for about 2 maybe 3 years, and I like his current songs just as much. But then I wasn't following him during those early years. One thing I have noticed is Tom's vocal pitch is much lower now, than back in the early '80's. I'm not sure it its time or choice that he sings lower now. Dylan had that quality. -

Was it a drum machine ? who programmed it ? Did Stan ? OR does anyone know what Stan thought of the whole "drum machine" sound ? I wasn't sure if they recorded Stan on many tracks to get that sound. Interesting comments. I like the cover too, I think Stan looks the best in expressing being shocked. -

thats funny about track 6, I did the same thing, What Mary Jane's on this for ? and then it went into its melody, anyway I love that "All Mixed UP" sounds a bit like the stones and motown at the same time if thats possible. I know Tom has said alot of the songs were ab-libs, plus he was separated I think he said, so maybe its those feelings that make him not like this Cd. Once again great comments. I hope everyone has been playing these Cd's a bit and taking a relistening. -
Well we should've played sat., there were not alot of people although we got extended through august. Anyway we had a replacement set in, his name is tom, and he is going to play with us tommorrow night. He knows most of the tunes that we are going to play. I met him through an advert I ran in the lcoal paper. Our regular guy had been in 2 bands, but now he has quit the other one cause he says we are the better of the 2. (I could've told him that LOL ). We are going to open and close each set with a CCR tune this Friday.

I've been listening to this one for 3 nights now. I use to not care for this Cd, but now find it quite listenable. I like Jammin me, and the runaway train song. Also track #6 starts just like Last dance for mary jane ", almost the same riff !! I love "it'll all work out" The whole Cd sounds very much like a lost rolling stones LP. What do you think ?

good comments, but can someone name a specific song ? A part that makes you just go "wow" !! -
Great comments gator and beamish. Its actually like they have become another band, which is cool that they have evolved. Its like there are the first five, then 2, then full moon fever and onward. Personally I like all the periods, but for different reasons.

"southern accents" Cd. What do you think ?
Dynabeat Tim replied to Dynabeat Tim's topic in Great Wide Open
I was thinking Mary's new car, had sort of a Beachboy feel. What came first "born in the USA" or "it means nothing to me" ? The riff is a definate "Steal" or "influenced by" comes in right after the singing stops. The more I play this Cd, the more I'm enjoying some of the tunes. -
I spoke to soon, the ole demons are back in force. I guess thats how depression works. But It helps to read the comments about the music in the other forums. I'm suppose to find things that make me happy. yea, music does that. peace and love

"it ain't nothin to me" has the born in the usa lick (sort of ). -
I love that song "monday, monday"....so if there were no mondays, there would be no song, go figure !!

I'm so "up" today that I feel that I'm looking down at the earth !! LOL

I've been listening to this one now. I like "rebels" and "southern accents", and also "don't come around here". There's one song where the horns play what sounds like the riff for "born in the u.s.a." but right now I can't remember the title. I like the intro to "spike". Knowing what Tom and the guys were going through at the time, makes this Cd even more interesting. For you longtime fans, what did you think when tom broke his hand ? This use to be a Cd I didn't care for, but now that I'm listening to it, I like it a bit more. Its not one of my favorites though.

Okay seems like everyone who responded feels "damn the Torp." was Stan's finest moment. Lets do Ron next. I always liked the bass line in "american girl" and the solo thing he did in the movie "runnin down a dream" where they are playing on a german tv show.(plus the fact he was high was funny !!). So fellow farmers, what do you think was Ron's finest musical moment ? -

thanks for the "live" version . It was interesting to hear. -
Lets start with Stan. I think the drum part( the tom's in the intro ) in "Don't Do Me Like That" sounds great. Remember lets just do Stan for now. Any other drum part that you think is his "finest moment" and want to turn me onto it ? Thank you.

I was wondering , did you play "built to last " at your wedding when the song first came out or years later ? And was the marriage built to last ? I wonder cause I've played so many weddings, and I always wonder if the people stayed together after picking out such meaningful songs. -
my kids like em, but I don't care for the long lines leaving. Its nice to see them enjoying them though. Good family time.

Tonight, the 4th of July, we will be doing our salute to Carl Perkins, plus we've added the apt song, and yer so bad, back into the set. Also doing a byrds medley. Hopefully it will be busy and people will feel like partying, I know I do.

Dynabeat Tim replied to Refugee's topic in The Waiting
This is just of the reason I love this band !! Cool guitars !! Currently I'm using 5 different guitars when my group plays but would use more if I had the time and space to carry them !!
