TomFest reacted to nurktwin in To my cousin
My cousin Mary Lou Passed away last night and I want to dedicate this song to her. She always looked up to me for the latest fads and fashion, including music. We spent many hours listening to the Beatles and still do til this day. R.I.P. Mary Lou.

TomFest reacted to Liberty in Clearest example of another musician's influence on TP?
I was just talking about Jeff Lynne in this thread. I think Jeff Lynne (Beatles by proxy) has a big impact on the music he works on.
Although the artists change, the rhythms and melodies from everything from Harrison's Cloud Nine, Wilburys' stuff, Full Moon Fever, and then what I've heard of Bryan Adams's album Get Up... all sounds like it could be from one big album to me. (In a good way). I think it's pretty clear in the music industry, if you want a sound like Cloud Nine, Full Moon Fever, or the Wilburys... you contact Jeff. Even Tom understood that when he was making solo songs in his garage that would eventually be Full Moon Fever.
It might be just me, but I hear "King's Highway" in this song. I can't put my finger on it, but it sounds like something.
Anyway, when I heard this song I immediately thought of Jeff Lynne and wasn't surprised when I looked up who the producer was... Haha. I'm not familiar with a ton of Bryan Adams's music outside of hit hits (and the soundtrack to Spirit, lol).
I just hear a lot of similarities between FMF, Wilburys, ITTGWO, HC, Get Up (Adams), Cloud Nine (Harrison), Mystery Girl (Orbison), Armchair Theater (Lynne), etc. A lot of the recurring sound, to me, is in the rhythm section between the drums/percussion, guitar, etc.
OK-- so in essence, what I'm trying to say is... Jeff Lynne has a strong impact on the music he works with... and I think that impact is heightened by the fact that these artists really want the sound he brings to the table based on being familiar with Lynne's other work. Imitation is the greatest form of flattery and I think a lot of artists really admire Lynne's style.

TomFest got a reaction from dollardime in Choose the Opening Song
Craziest suggestion so far: "Won't Last Long" off Echo. Great little rocker full of energy to open the show. Check it out right now. Loud. It kills.

TomFest got a reaction from Mikeyt in Question of the day 1/3/17
I was once in a band named "Closed for Remodeling", but nobody showed up to the gigs.
How about "Punctured Lung"? I told the guys in my band I wanted to change our name to that, in honor of the hit that Earl Thomas put on Rob Gronkowski.

TomFest reacted to nurktwin in Monkee fans
I bought this 10 cd set about 3 days ago and it will arrive any minute on UPS. I have the vinyl LP's but nothing on CD's from The Monkees, so I took a chance for $37 for this 10 CD box set. The price in the last couple days has gone up to $47. The set includes all 9 LP's and a bonus disk of their hit singles. Should be a nice set to listen to from time to time, but why the $10 price increase now at Christmas time? If you'd like to check it out, click the link below. Scroll down on the link, CD track listings are there.
