TomFest reacted to Hoodoo Man in 2017 Tour Trail - memories, pics, songs played
So I just realized today is the anniversary of my second to last show with Tom.  Hartford CT June 14th 2017.  It was a crazy day for the wife and I along with thousands of other Petty fans, baseball fans and people trying to get around Hartford. Everything was fine and Waze told me we would be there by 6pm when we left home.  It was a perfect storm of traffic. There was the Petty show as well as a half dozen other events that day.  It took almost 3 hours to go the last 3 or so miles, we got one of the last parking spots at the Xfinity theater which was pure luck. It was my most miserable pre-concert experiences ever as we had no idea if we would make it to the show.
We caught 2 songs by Joe Walsh  Rocky Mountain High was one of them and I will seemingly forever wonder why there was a balloon that says "60" on the stage with him.
Tom's set was great, as always he was so appreciative of the crowd, genuinely happy to be performing in front of us.  As he said they dropped the needle all over the record collection starting off as they did every show that tour with Rockin around with you and ending with American girl.  Sadly he didn't play Swinging that night but he sounded amazing and looked pretty good overall.  He gained a little weight and I thought good for him, dudes too skinny.  I walked away satisfied and even stayed right until the end, something I don't always do as I hate sitting in post concert traffic.  He for sure was walking with a bit of crouch as he walked around the stage but from fairly near the front he seemed to be doing fine and was full of energy and life.
Coincidently I also saw Tom on June 13th 2008 at the Boston Garden.  If memory serves it was my first time back since they tore the original garden down and it was a much nicer venue.  Then if we hit the way back machine June 27th 1987 was my very first Petty show.  A very nice bootleg exists of that show in Mansfield MA if you want to check it out.  Over 8 months since we lost him and I'm still brought to tears at times.  thanks for reading.  😢

Robert Plant was/is a huge Elvis fan, and that influence has always shown through his work - from dropping "A Mess of Blues" into a Zeppelin medley (mis-heard as "Minnesota Blues"), to the entire feel of the Honeydrippers.  As I said, I'm a huge Zeppelin fan, but he owes a big debt to Elvis and he'd be the first to say so.

Love the song. And Mike's little "Star Trek" riff with the ebow during the intro on that live clip.  This song has always been a favorite.

Bad Moon Rising backed with Lodi, then?
Which reminds me. I forgot John Fogerty in my little exposé above. Definitely on the list.
As for Plant, he's still doing it. Not the same "it" as he did with LZ, obviously, and why would he. But more of a folk, blues and soul thing, which is quite briliant and speaks even more of his universal qualities, than if he would have been just Mr Whole Lotta Love. Just saying.

So from what I gather here is that TwoGunslingers doesn't like straight ahead rock 'n' roll and probably detests punk music for being bare bones on substance lol. "Come on Down to My House" is a simple, lyrically lite rocker that is made great by how unabashedly straight forward and full-steam ahead it is with it's garage rock. And I fucking love it. One of my favorite songs by the band actually. Anytime it comes on, I crank my radio/speakers as loud as they go and revel in it's amazingness.

Yes, Fender is probably my favorite guitar brand.  Speaking of........here's a pic of Tom with one of his Telecasters.  I took this photo at the Gorge in 2014.  I just liked the way Tom was half in the dark and eve n his guitar disappeared and reappeared.

From Thursday it's mostly some iPhone stuff.
So instead I took a look online to see what is already out there to try to find something not already up. I decided to put up "Image of Me" because they only did it on Saturday night and I didn't find a video of it.  And I'd not seen them play it before though I know they have played it because it's on The Live Anthology.  Quality of the video is poor but I still like it.  I love that they pulled out a country song and I love Mike's playing and I like his guitar too.
The reason it floats and seems like I can't frame it is because it was stabilized.  The original footage is shaky.  Probably had a beer in one hand and was trying to dodge someones head in front of me as well.

I've been waiting to see this for a long time. This is how I will remember the last TPATHB tour in my mind....yes I know it's 2014 and not 2017, it's a personal way I'm choosing to look at things. I was blessed to see 8 shows on the 2014 tour. Bless you Tom.

TomFest got a reaction from Lorra in Best Live Version of Mary Jane's Last Dance
This is from October 2002, just days after the release of "The Last DJ".  Tom and the band did a 2-night stand at The Olympic Theater in Los Angeles, and it was simulcast to theaters around the country.  I recall paying $10 to see it in Seattle.  They put out a DVD from (I guess) the best versions from both nights.  The website had a thing where the first 100 people that pre-ordered the DVD, received a copy signed by Tom. I got one of those, as did probably many other people here.
As far as it being a grand time in Tom's life - I wouldn't expect that to be the case. The record is a rather melancholy look back at better times.  George Harrison had died less than a year previous, and Howie had been fired from the band, and would pass away a couple of months after this show.
Still, it's one of my very favorite records in his entire catalog.
